Please include your reasons for applying and take the opportunity to highlight experiences, skills and attributes that help show you meet therequirements of this post. This may have been gained through work, study, volunteering, personal responsibilities or special interests. As I will be leaving college soon, I feel that it is the right time for me to choose a new career path. I have witnessed both of my parents earning degrees as maturestudents and I do not feel that this is the right time for me to go to university. It is something that I can choose to do later on in life. I want to gain life experience anda career in health and social care is a perfect way to do so as I will be able to meet many different people from all walks of life, with different beliefs and fromdifferent cultures.

I have first hand experience of seeing my sister being cared for in a hospital setting many times. I have seen good nursing care, and nursing care that is not sogood. I know that the role of a healthcare support worker is very important in today's NHS and I understand that it would be busy and varied. I want to be anexcellent healthcare support worker, valuing all patients as individuals and providing excellent care at a time when they are very vulnerable. I understand theimportance of good care, including hygiene cares and making sure each patient receives good nutrition. I also understand about preserving patient dignity, such asusing curtains when appropriate, and ensuring that patients are appropriately covered. It is important to encourage patients to return to being as independent aspossible, and this is something that is part of the role of being a healthcare support worker. This might be helping a patient to get out of bed to sit in a chair aftersurgery. Being an excellent healthcare support worker also means protecting patients, and I understand the importance of hand washing to help prevent the spreadof infection.

For my Year 10 work experience, I volunteered at the Salvation Army Community Centre in Cambridge. The next year, I went back and volunteered in the summerholidays before starting Sixth Form. This matured me in many ways. My people skills developed in that period of time, making me more confident in talking topeople of different ages and backgrounds. It made me appreciate the fact that everybody is unique and has their own story. I loved getting to know each and everyone of the customers I served. I was also the youngest worker at the Salvation Army, so it really helped me understand the importance of respect, particularlytowards colleagues older than I was. Of course, working in an environment like a community centre requires excellent communication skills. I understand thatcommunication is not just about talking but also about listening, reading and writing. It can be demonstrated in many different ways, such as following writteninstructions, like reading a recipe, or following verbal instructions, like taking food orders. In a healthcare support worker role, I know that I would be listening andfollowing instructions on a daily basis.

I understand what it means to work as part of a team, whether it be in my previous voluntary work or at college. I know that I will be working as part of amulti-disciplinary team. Although I can work as a leader when needed, I respect team members and am able to listen. In my media class at college, we are oftensorted into groups and left to organise our own duties. I always enjoy putting my ideas and thoughts forward, as well as listening to others and their ideas. This is agood example of my understanding of what makes an effective team member. We are also sometimes expected to work individually. This means that I can stayfocused, on task and that I can show initiative.

I have good IT skills and use many software packages frequently at college and at home. I also take responsibility for my own learning progression. At college, Iwent to the Learning Support office to ask for extra help with my maths when needed.

The Trust's Values are Together - Safe, Kind, Excellent, as outlined in our Behaviour Standard. Please give examples how you have behaved in a safe, kind, excellent way. (Examples can be from work, study, volunteering, personal interest).Kindness: Caring for people has always been a priority in my life whether it was in Year 6 when I was selected to be part of the 'Buddy System' looking afterreception children or more recently when I started running a support group at college for those who struggle with depression and anxiety. The support group wasextremely significant in helping me understand the vital importance of confidentiality. Being the leader of the group, I had to demonstrate to the members that theycould confide in me with complete confidence. I had to show them that I was open to listening, regardless of what they had to say.

Many close friends of mine have struggled with mental health issues. This has been very challenging to me in many ways. It has been a real test to my loyalty andunderstanding of how people feel. I have enjoyed getting to know these people and feel that I am a person that they can rely on and confide in.

Growing up, I have been fortunate enough to witness my mum choosing a career in healthcare. She started as a ward clerk and is now training to be a children'snurse. She has told me about the joy of delivering care to meet each patient's individual needs, and the reward of family members and patients thanking her forexcellent care and kindness. Kindness is definitely something that I know I could bring to work and demonstrate to each patient.

Safety: I understand the importance of infection control with regards to hand washing and patient hygiene, as I have frequently visited my sister in hospital.Additionally, I would ensure that if necessary, my patient's bed rails were up to protect them from falls. Also, if I felt a patient was at risk of harm, I would bring this tothe attention of my supervisor. Besides being familiar with a hospital environment, I also babysit for several families frequently. One family trusted me to care fortheir baby safely when he was as young as six weeks old.

Excellent: I have shown examples of how I believe I can be an excellent healthcare support worker. I am respectful, compassionate, have empathy, am a good teamworker. At college, I always try and produce my best work consistently in media and photography and take pride in everything I do.
