Ofsted visited Great Coates on 22nd May and undertook a two-day nspection. It went really well and we are delighted to be good in all areas. The report is published for everyone to see but a few of the main points that they picked out that we are especially proud of are; The ethos and culture of the school are really supportive of the children’s well-being and

social and emotional development. A big part of this is the positive relationships between all members of the school community.

The TAs contribute really well to the progress and attainment of the children and are skilled in questioning the children and they know the children really well.

The inspector praised the governors and commented on how well they knew the school and had contributed to the progress the school had made. The same was said about the Trust.

The curriculum is well thought out and there are opportunities for the children to develop skills in all subject areas. The middle leaders have started to have an impact on their curriculum areas.

Pupils make good progress overall. It was a really supportive inspection and has given us a good foundation to move on from.

We are officially Good!

New Website

We have a new website which we are thrilled with. After the marketing workshop arranged by William Barcroft we contacted Blueapple and went through the process of getting a completely new website. It is excellent and has received lots of positive feedback.

Sports Some of our year 5 and 6 children went orienteering. They really enjoyed it despite the rain and cold. The children came second overall but most importantly had a great time together working collaboratively. The year 5 and 6 children competed in the netball competition. They were really proud of themselves as they came second.

Times Tables Rock Stars

This term we launched times tables rock stars. The aim is to improve the children’s multiplication skills. The kids love it. All the children in school from year 1 to year 6 have an account and they can access it both at home and in school. Even after such a short space of time, teachers are already seeing an improvement in times tables.

D.T

As part of our curriculum development we have focused on Design Technology and the year 5 and 6 children have had their first try at a textiles unit. After a lot of pricked fingers, cross, frustrated faces because “sewing is soooo hard!” they completed their project. They have

designed and made Tree Frogs as part of their rainforests topic.

Olympic Athlete Visits Hartsholme Academy

At Hartsholme Academy, we were very honoured to welcome Sarah Holt, a professional hammer throw athlete, at the beginning of June. Sarah spent the morning leading a sponsored fitness circuit with all pupils, which included star jumps and press ups. Afterwards, Sarah spoke to the whole school in an assembly about her achievements so far and the time, effort and determination it takes to become a professional athlete, as well as the pride and feeling of accomplishment that comes with achieving your goals. As this was a sponsored event, the children were given the opportunity to ask their friends and family members to support them in raising money towards the event. The children managed to raise over £1,500, most of which comes back to the school to spend on PE equipment. T he whole school had a fantastic morning and we hope to inspire more children to take up a variety of sports, discovering and pursuing their potential passions in life.

Sustainable Travel

At Hartsholme Academy, we have been working very hard to reduce congestion on and around the streets adjacent to our school, therefore improving the safety of everyone, not least of all our children. For several months now, the School Council and Mr Edwards have been working with a Sustainable Travel Officer from Lincolnshire County Council, Sarah Hubery, who has been supporting us with developing our School Travel Plan. School Travel Plans are a key tool used to manage traffic and encourage a healthy and safe whole-school community.

We have recently launched a Park and Stride Initiative. This is a simple initiative, where parents/

carers are encouraged to park their car a 5-minute walk from school and then walk the rest of the way

with their children. Running alongside this, we have also launched a 'Living Streets' campaign. This

campaign aims to promote and reward the use of sustainable travel. Each day, the children record

(using an online app) how they have travelled to school. Children who are using sustainable modes

of transport (walking, cycling, scooting, parking & striding, etc) 3-times-a-week, earn Living Streets

pin badges.

Our school Nursery children have been looking after 10 duck eggs from Rand Farm Park since the beginning of June. We have been using the special light on top of the incubator to see how well the ducklings are growing and we are delighted that we are going to be welcoming 7 ducklings at the start of July!

Top SSAT Award For Progress

Healing School— A Science Academy

Healing MAT

Exceptional pupil progress at Healing School has been rewarded with national recognition.

Healing School has won an educational outcomes award from the Schools, Students and Teachers

network (SSAT) after being named in the country’s top 20% of schools for progress.

Department for Education and Ofsted sources are combined to produce the organisation’s database

from which it announces its winners. SSAT’s Chief Executive Sue Williamson congratulated Principal,

Mrs Dewland and everyone at Healing School on its “excellent performance” last year:

“I’m delighted to announce that your school has won an SSAT Educational Outcomes award for being

in the top 20% of schools nationally for progress,” Ms Williamson said.

“SSAT is an established, reputable network and its annual analysis of data is highly regarded. It is

fantastic news.” said Mrs Dewland. “To be named in the country’s top 20% of schools for progress is

a credit to the hard work and dedication of our staff and students. Progress is the Government’s key

measure and this school continues, year on year, to achieve sustained excellence in its outcomes.”

The Department for Education’s performance league tables, produced earlier this year, confirm

Healing’s Progress 8 measure – which illustrates the improvement made by pupils from entering

secondary school in Year 7 to leaving in Year 11 - was an ‘above average’ 0.41. It meant 2018 was

the third successive year Healing had been significantly above the national average.

Mrs Dewland has been invited to a regional awards ceremony by SSAT to receive the outcomes

award.

We are proud of the Healing High Flyers Cheerleading squad who entertained Humberston

Park School this month.

The team put on an energetic performance for the pupils who were thrilled by the high flying routines.

After each performance, the pupils then took part in a cheerleading workshop where the Healing girls

taught parts of a chant and a routine to the pupils.

All the girls demonstrated maturity and great communication skills when coaching over 60 pupils

throughout the morning from ages 3 to 18 years. Mrs Yeadon of the coaching team was proud of

each and every one of the girls. You could instantly see the positive impact interacting with the

cheerleaders had on the pupils. Many of the pupils with learning and physical disabilities were so

excited to wear the cheerleading uniform and shake their pom-poms to the music. It was a very

rewarding morning all round.

Racing to Success

Page 5

Healing Primary School

Key Stages 1 and 2 had a wonderful day out at Brantingham Park, Hull, taking part in a 2K fun run. There were around 1000 children present at the fun run and we made up 282 of them! The children were an absolute credit to the school. We had lots of fun keeping healthy, and got to meet Laura Weightman - a middle-distance runner for Team GB. Even the rain couldn't dampen our spirits! We are also so proud of Matthew, who has worked tirelessly to learn to walk again, a year after

becoming wheelchair-bound. Matthew completed the 2K Go Run for Fun with all of his peers

and proved to everyone that with determination and positivity, anything is possible. What a star!

Healing MAT

Our Car Club had a wonderful day in Hull, partaking in the first ever Hull Street Car

Race. The team designed and made our eco-friendly car out of recycled crisp

packets. On the day, they worked seamlessly together, taking on the role of either

driver or pit crew. All of the team were fantastic role models, and made us very proud.

We were also delighted to be awarded first place for the Drag Race, and the Greenest

Car Award at the GreenPower Awards ceremony. Watch this space for the next Lewis

Hamilton rising out of Healing Primary School!

Passion

We have been enjoying a fortnight of arts enrichment. All year groups, from year 1 to 6 have visited the Usher Gallery and The Collection in Lincoln to see the wonderful art that they have on display and created a sculpture from paper or clay. We have continued to build our links with Christ’s Hospital Secondary School by inviting a drama, music and photography teacher to lead activities with our school. We will look forward to seeing some of the brilliant work on show at our Summer Festival of Learning on July 12th.

Aspiration

Year 6 had the chance to work with professional animator Katy Milner, to create their own stop-motion animations with dough and some small figures. They are really inspired to use their new skills again. We have also had the pleasure of working with local graffiti artist, James Mayle from Imageskool, to create four fantastic new murals on the playground walls based on our four values. It has been really amazing to show the children that there are career opportunities within the creative industries for those artists among us.

Resilience

We are really excited to be taking part in a pilot led by Lincolnshire County Council on Therapeutic Parenting. Some of our brilliant parents have volunteered to take part in this scheme, which looks to give parents strategies to work with their children on building resilience and dealing with social and emotional difficulties. Working with counselor, Anna Millar, the parents have worked individually to identify needs and will be taking part in a series of workshops with other parents to build up their skills in what is an-ever increasing part of our young people’s lives.

Tolerance

Year 6 had the opportunity to visit the Holocaust Centre in Laxton, Newark to launch their learning about World War Two. During the visit the children explored ‘The Journey’ exhibition where they learnt about the prejudice and propaganda that was spread about the Jews in Germany. They found out about how the intolerance resulted in vandalism of shops, the mass persecution and death to many Jews throughout Europe. Furthermore, they were able to be one of the first schools to try The Forever Project which uses digitial technologies to hear and see a holocaust survivor share their story and also to ask them questions and hear them give answers to hundreds of frequently asked questions.

Parental Involvement

Healing MAT

Parents are invited in to school each half term to learn alongside their children. The children in Year 2 welcomed their families into school to join them in an afternoon of learning as part of their current project, ‘Towers, Tunnels and Turrets’. The children have been investigating castles, tunnels and bridges but took on their biggest challenge so far with the support of their parents. The children have recently been building towers and tunnels, thinking about how they can make them stronger, stiffer and more stable. To challenge them even further the children were put into teams with their supporting adults and given marshmallows and dried spaghetti. Their task was to build the biggest self-supporting bridge using only those materials. The look of shock on the invited guests’ faces was obvious but this did not stop anyone from enthusiastically facing the challenge head on. The afternoon was a resounding success!

Year 4 Celebrate their Swimming

All children in Year 4 have participated in their swimming lessons this term. For some of the children,

it was the very first time they had been in a swimming pool. We are extremely proud of all their

achievements.

Fun in Foundation Stage

Developing our outdoor provision has been a key focus

this term. The children really engaged with building their

own car. There is a lot of excitement with the new

resources available for the children. What will their next

building project be?

PGL Adventures for Year 5

Our Year 5 children spent a weekend at Caythorpe PGL Centre.

Despite the weather being a little wet at times, a great time was had

by all. The children thoroughly enjoyed the activities, as did the staff!

Focus Days

At WBJ we endeavor to give opportunities to develop understanding and empathy. Our Disability Awareness Day included a series of workshops, lessons and games specially designed to help our pupils develop empathy, rather than sympathy, for people with disabilities, illnesses and special educational needs. Our visitors John McCorkell and Chloe ensured the children had every

opportunity to experience disability issues in the world around them.

Pupils had the opportunity to try out John’s wheelchair which was more

difficult than it looks. We also took part in a whole range of activities that

allowed us to gain a deeper understanding into the daily life of those with

disabilities.

Gold Standard Sports at Barcroft!

We are thrilled at William Barcroft this year to have been awarded a School Games Mark Gold Award. The Gold Award recognises schools which have excelled in 4 areas: increasing engagement in sport, developing creative opportunities in sport, sustaining participation in sport and developing a workforce to plan and lead sports. This year, some of the things we have done to help achieve this include entering more inter-school sports competitions, ensuring that every child has competed in intra-school sports and having 50 children helping to lead and manage our sports day! We were also nominated for a Yorkshire Primary PE and Sports Premium Award by local SGO Craig Dobbs in the ‘Increased Participation in Competitive Sport’ category. We won this award in the Humber region, and therefore were to attend a ceremony in Harrogate. We were bursting with pride when presented with our regional winners plaque by former team GB swimmer James Curtain.

Our Headteacher was quoted in the brochure stating that “The transformation of sporting

confidence and attitude has been remarkable. Joe has ensured that the children’s opportunities

have expanded in such a way that they are literally glowing with pride. Secondary transition tutors

tell us that our children have excellent sportsmanship and have a good attitude. The parents inform

us that the children want to watch and get involved in sport out of school. The children express that

we as a school are sportsmen and women. The difference is tangible.”
