The 2014-2019 Healthy People Healthy Places Plan (HPHP) aims to improve equitable access to healthy food, options for getting around, and safe places to play and be active. It builds upon the work that was initiated with the 2008 HEAL NH Action Plan. HPHP Plan progress to date will be presented during this session, including network accomplishments, workgroup activities, efforts to align strategies with other statewide initiatives, and an invitation for new partners to join the HEAL NH network.

1. A Food Systems Approach to Improving Healthy Food Access - Presented by: Erin Allgood, Project Coordinator, NH Food Alliance,

UNH Sustainability Institute To improve healthy, local food access it is vital that we create a sustainable food system in the Granite State. A viable food system includes healthy consumers, profitable businesses, and a thriving food environment. During this session participants will learn about and discuss how the NH Food Alliance’s viability and HEAL NH’s healthy food access strategies can be aligned to benefit both the public’s health and food system enterprises.

2. Hospitals as Leaders for Improving Healthy Food in Institutions and Communities - Presented by: Jennifer Obadia, New England Coordinator, Healthy

Food in Health Care Program, Health Care Without HarmMomentum is building in the US and NH to align food policy with public health objectives. More and more hospitals—with a historical focus on treating diet-related illnesses—are partnering with local organizations to improve health and equity in their communities. In this session, hospital and health care leaders will share strategies and best practices, and then engage attendees in regional discussions about how hospitals and local partners can collaborate to improve access to healthy food in institutional and community settings.

3. Photovoice: Introduction and Mini-Training - Presented by: Anna M. Adachi-Mejia, Ph.D. Deputy Director, Health

Promotion Research Center at Dartmouth; Assistant Professor, Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth To gain a better understanding of how to make neighborhoods healthier places to live, work, and play, the technique of photovoice can serve as a valuable tool for giving people a voice and a way to tell their stories using photography and words. In this session, participants will learn about photovoice, how it has been used in NH, and learn introductory skills for implementing a photovoice project in their community.

4. Getting Serious About Active Transportation: Community Bicycle-Pedestrian Planning and Advocacy - Presented by: Matt Waitkins, Transportation Planner II, Nashua Regional Planning Commission

Increased active transportation options can help build healthy, vibrant communities. In this participatory session, attendees will learn from NH experts who are leading regional and local efforts to improve walking and biking accessibility. Session attendees, both community planners and non-planners alike, will also learn how to use the HEAL Guide to Conducting Walkability and Bikeability Assessments in NH Communities.

5. Health Equity and the HEAL NH Agenda – Innovative Ideas to Enhance Your Work - Presented by: Rebecca Sky, Former Director of NH Health & Equity Partnership, Foundation for Healthy

Communities, and Amy Parece-Grogan, M.Ed., Behavioral Health Cultural & Linguistic Competence Coordinator, Office of Minority Health & Refugee Affairs, New Hampshire Department of Health & Human ServicesThis interactive workshop is intended to teach participants how to talk about health equity in ways that matter to decision makers, and to incorporate an inclusive approach to HEAL NH work that can strengthen impact and health outcomes.
