This half term, Year 4 are focusing on the song Mamma Mia by ABBA. Each week they listen and appraise a different ABBA song. So far Year 4 have listened to Dancing Queen and The Winner Takes it All.

During their lessons, they are improving their skills and finding the pulse of a song. They are listening to and repeating different rhythms and joining in with fun games.

Don’t forget to follow our school Twitter account and the Year Group Twitter pages for your child. Here you will find lots of information about the learning taking place in the year group.

Early Writing in Reception Our Reception pupils have settled into the school year so well. They have been working hard on their writing skills, focusing on holding a pen or pencil correctly and starting letters in the correct places. They are linking their handwriting to their phonics work, learning initial sounds. They are also learning to write their own name. This is something parents could support with at home too.

Mathematics Calculation Policy On our website in the policies section, you will find a copy of our calculation policy. Here you will find the methods used from Years 1 to 6 when completing the number operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We hope this will help you to support your child with any homework set, ensuring the same methods used in school are used at home to avoid any confusion and consolidate knowledge. A paper copy of the year group information for each child has been sent home today for your reference. If you have any questions about any of the methods, please contact your child’s class teacher to discuss.

To celebrate World Mental Health Day we would like to invite the children to come into school wearing something yellow. This could be a pair or socks or a hair bobble with their normal school uniform or they could come in their own yellow clothes. The idea is that we come together as a community making the school yellow and make us all smile. There is no need to send any money in for any charities on this day; we just want to raise a smile. We would like the children to wear yellow on:

Sefton Libraries are extending their Summer Reading Challenge until the end of October. Joining the challenge will allocate your child 10 credits with Sefton Children’s University. Children can register by going into a library. They can then either get books out from the library or they can read the books via the online reading resource Borrowbox (which they will need to register online to use). As a school we will then receive a list of all who have registered, will allocate credits and issue certificates received.

We will now be setting Homework Tasks via Goggle Classrooms. A pack of information has been sent home today regarding remote learning including passwords to access online accounts to support learning . We have also sent home a parental guide to using Google Classrooms so you can support your child. Expectations for home learning in the event of school or a class needing to isolate during this academic year. Please keep this information in a safe place for any future reference. If your situation at home changes and your child does not have access to wifi or a device to access school work at any point, please contact the school office or your child’s class teacher and alternative plans will be put in place.

Year 5 and 6 Transition Information Stanley High School have previously welcomed lots of families to visit their school for social distanced tours over the summer. As this is no longer possible due to the rise in infection rates, they have put together a range of opportunities for Years 5 and 6 to engage with their school. There are a range of videos for families to view and make an informed choice regarding future high school choices.
