The entire Performing Arts faculty worked together to stage an amazing show to celebrate the 15 th anniversary of the SandPit Theatre. I would like to congratulate all the students involved for their performances which were of the highest standard. A huge thank you also to Ms Paul, Ms Stothard, Ms Meeking, Mrs Birkett, Ms Peacock and the many other staff who made this show a success. Well done everyone and roll-on the next 15 years! The school Christmas festivities are fast approaching, the first of which is our annual Christmas Fayre on Saturday 3 rd December (11.00 a.m. – 3-00 p.m.). Can I remind everyone to try and bring at least one item in for one of the many tombola stalls, and encourage you all to pop along even for a short while to support your school. Entrance is free and there is plenty to see and do. There will also be some amazing food too! Look forward to seeing you there. As you know, large numbers of our students are regularly involved in noteworthy activities outside school. We love to hear about these because they help to encourage others to be community minded and develop their own character. This week I would like to highlight the activities of Gabriella Farrugia from Y7. Gabriella won the Inspire The House award for Most Inspirational Young Person (an award nominated ex- clusively by MPs). The award was part of the 2016 Kids Count Inspiration Awards. She was nominated for her JDM awareness work (radio interview, TV interviews, newspaper interviews and whole school assembly at Wheatfields) and her personal fundraising for GOSH (over £4000 raised through completing a 5km run and organising a whole school sponsored fun run at Wheatfields) as well as her part in the national campaigns run by GOSH. Gabriella was invited to the House of Commons to receive the award. She met Anne Main (who had nominated Gabriella) and had a tour of the Commons and the Lords. At the award ceremony Gabriella talked to lots of MPs about her condition and the need to support the NHS and to fund research into rare diseases. She made an acceptance speech and was amazing! Well done Gabriella, we are all very proud of your achievements. If you have any great news, please e-mail it through to the school. Alan Gray Headteacher

Vaudeville was a spectacular show to be involved in. It brought all years together and united the school through the arts. It was a great learning experience and inspired us to get more involved with arts forms we may otherwise not have tried. Vaudeville proved that effort and dedication can create something so impressive and enjoyable. It was an honour to have music specially arranged for the Jazz Band, it really gave the show a more professional outcome and helped bring together the different art forms. It was also a great way to include those who may not necessarily have gotten involved with the show via acting, singing or dancing.

I found Vaudeville to be a great experience because it

gave extra opportunities to get involved with the things you love. Also it bonded people of all ages and gave students a time to demonstrate their talents. It was definitely worth all the effort!

Overall, everyone had a brilliant time and Vaudeville

was a unique and breath-taking show. Jazz Dalziel 9B

Vaudeville – A 15 year celebration of the SandPit Theatre

Last week the SandPit Theatre was transformed

into a fabulous performance space for the whole school show Vaudeville. The show captured the very best of musical theatre and celebrated the flagship work of Dance, Drama and Music at Sandringham. There were so many highlights from the 200+ cast and the audience were immersed in the live performance by being seated around jazz club style tables whilst students performed in the round. The audience for the final show arrived in black tie dress to add to the celebration of our fantastic theatre.

A huge thanks to all of the arts staff and SandPit

Theatre staff for their outstanding work in putting on such an ambitious project and most importantly to our fabulous students in the cast, band and crew who were superb in all four shows. The live music, performed by the jazz band, was arranged by West End leading artist Neil Rutherford and it added an exciting element to each show. Emily Horton-Harpin deserves a special mention for writing large sections of the script to link the musicals into the whole show. Congratulations to everyone involved!

Student Reflections on Vaudeville Being part of Vaudeville was a very exciting

experience, and one that I will remember for many years to come. As this was the 15th Anniversary of The SandPit Theatre, it was very important for me to help create a piece that would be memorable for the crew, actors and audience: especially since I have been performing here myself for 7 years now. I worked with Miss Birkett to create a script to link all the scenes of the show together, and even directed some!

The show was a great success, selling out on every

night, and it was simply wonderful to watch people of all ages and creative strengths come together for such an amazing event. Overall, the whole process of being part of Vaudeville was phenomenal and one that I'm sure we will all treasure for many years.

Emily Horton-Harpin Year 13 My experience playing in the Jazz Band in

Vaudeville was very enjoyable. It was my first time accompanying singers and dancers in a live show. Although I felt tired by the end, I thought it was interesting to see how the show progressed throughout the different performances. I liked all the various show tunes we played, some of which I had heard before and some were new.

Volunteers needed for Year 11 Mock Interviews

Can you spare a few hours on Thursday 19th

January 2017 to help our Year 11 students and be part of our Careers ELD – ‘You’re Hired!’? We would like to hold a Mock Interview session and, to facilitate this, we are asking for 40 volunteers to interview our students.

You will be needed for just a few hours during the

morning, and given a full briefing and interview guidelines on the day to help you. Your help would be enormously appreciated as we will be unable to run the session without enough volunteers.

Although the process is a little nerve-wracking for

our students, feedback from previous years has been that the Mock Interview has been one of the most useful parts of the day. Please do get in touch with me at [email protected] if you can help. Thank you!

Susie Howe Careers Co-ordinator

Tombola Items please!

As usual, could you all kindly continue to bring in something for the Tombola for the Xmas Fayre.

We will be running a number of different tombolas

including the favourite ‘chocolate’ one. These should be left in Student Services.

Christmas Lunch Please buy your tickets!

Thank you for utilising ParentPay to purchase the

Christmas lunch for your son/daughter. We have had 446 requests so far which is fantastic!

As the lunch is now over two days, we can cater

for more, so please pay by December 5th if your child would like to take part.

There are two options on ParentPay (vegetarian

and meat) so please ensure you select the correct option. A list of lunch payments will be put up daily on the notice board by the canteen entrance.

Please note that there will be no other food

available to purchase at lunchtime on these days so students will need to either make a purchase at break, make a purchase from the kiosk or bring a packed lunch.

Y11 Netball V Loreto (H)

News Last week’s senior Football game V Owens school was

cancelled on arrival after a huge downpour flooded Owens’ pitch meaning the game couldn’t even start. This will be rearranged for later this term.

On Friday, the Y11 boys basketball team played

Queens in their first game of the season. This was always going to be a tough opener against a team that has made the National Quarter finals in previous years. The team started well and quickly made Queens work for their points, whilst Tom Dumsday was outstanding on offence. The game was very close with both teams trading points and having to focus on defence. At half time the score was 40-47. In the second half we continued to put pressure on Queens, however their strength was too much in the stretch and they eventually won the game. Dumsday was excellent throughout contributing 37 points. Well done to all the boys who played.

The U15 Girls Football Team played in the 4th Round

of the ESFA National Schools Competition against Swakeleys High School. The day of the game was a very wet and blustery one, but this didn’t stop the loyal group of parents coming along to offer the girls their support and encouragement. From the outset, Sandringham dominated the game in the midfield with a well worked, opening goal coming from Zoe Hook. Amalie Newman-Booth followed this shortly after with a fantastic run, scoring an outstanding individual goal. Although Swakeleys made a good few runs, our defence remained strong and quickly shut down any attacking threats. The girls were fantastic at transferring the ball from defence to attack, playing the ball through the field and out to Eve Shaw, who put in a brilliant cross to Emily Giovanni who put the ball firmly in the back of the net. Amalie Newman-Booth followed this up with another outstanding individual goal.

The closing minutes of the half saw a brilliant long ball

from Goal Keeper, Mollie Herrington, picked up by Eve Shaw who scored a brilliant goal. We went into the second half leading the game 5-0. Throughout this half, the girls played some excellent football, with Rachel Dodd coming close to scoring several times, even picking up a disallowed goal. Swakeleys School didn’t ever give up and our defence continued to work hard to stop them from scor-ing. The game ended 5-0 to Sandringham, meaning that we are through to the 5th Round and the last 32 schools in the whole country.
