Our own IGS Hero!
Well done to Emma Powell who won Stray FM’s Local Heroes Sporting
Achievement award last Friday night. The ceremony was held at Cedar
Court Hotel Harrogate, and it was the second year in a row that an IGS
student walked away with the award.
Emma (8JP) is a climber, and a very good one
at that, who started climbing at age 7 and
within the last 6 months has ventured into
the world of ice climbing. Recently
competing in the 2014 World Youth Ice
Climbing Championships, Champagny-en-
Vanoise, France, Emma representing the GB
team, came 3rd. Emma is now ranked 3rd in
the world in the under 16s category, and
continues to manage both her academic
studies and achieve her very best in the
world of climbing.
Emma is a real credit to herself, her family
and the school. To achieve such great
success and be recognised within the wider
community has only been possible through
Emma’s sheer hard work and determination,
and considerable talent. We are very proud
of her.

Growing Minds...Growing Learners!
7PDH experienced growing mind-sets in action this
week, with juggling! As part of a University of
Portsmouth programme, in conjunction with 500
schools nation wide, we are teaching our students that
perseverance and effort will make a difference to their
work.
The Year 7 class attempted to learn how to juggle and
hopefully understood that the old proverb ‘try and try
again’ does work when learning something new. This is
a message they will take away and (fingers crossed!)
and remember next time they get stuck with a new
topic, that resilience is often the answer!

Hidden Art Project at IGS
We are delighted to welcome the Hidden Art Project to school from 18th June until 1st July, including 2 workshops for Year 10 Art and Photography students on 26th June and 1st July.
The project involves the school installing 6 massive art images in school. The project is a touring exhibition/outreach initiative run by the Impressions Gallery in Bradford and involves images by a photographer called Red Saunders.
These photographic tableaux recreate the historic scenes involving the dissenters, revolutionaries, radicals and non-conformists who have often been hidden from history. Each scene is carefully planned and lit, using costumed models in the style of tableaux vivants (living pictures). Together they suggest photographic ‘evidence’ for events that occurred before the widespread adoption of camera technology.

Congratulations to the 54 students who took part in the English Schools Athletics Competition on Thursday. They did really well with many fantastic individual and team performances with overall results still pending. They conducted themselves superbly throughout the event and we received numerous comments regarding their positive behaviour and manners.

Phoenix Dance Theatre are coming into school to run a highly energetic workshop. They are looking for boys/young men to perform in an adaptation of "Lord of the Flies" at Bradford Alhambra later this year. The workshop will be fun, interesting and challenging. If they think our students have what it takes then they could be performing with a highly respected company on the big stage! The workshop is on Monday 19th May 3.10-4.40pm in the Gym. There are limited places. We can only have 25 students participating. Further information can be found at Thelowry.com and www.bradford-theatres.co.uk.

Turning their Lost into Found!
Here goes...coats, shoes, jumpers, umbrellas, socks(!), shorts, rugby tops, bags, full PE kits, blazers and ties.. that pretty much sums up what is in the lost property box at the moment. The problem is it won’t be in there for long...it will be cleared out on Friday 23rd May, just before half term. Attempts will be made to returned ‘named’ items to students, but if it isn’t marked and isn’t claimed items will go in the bin (that includes Superdry, Jack Wills and Hollister items!) Students are aware of the date and we have ‘encouraged’ them to reunite with their missing items and ensure they are fully equipped for school.
Attendance Measure
Attendance rates for years 7-10 only from now until the end of
term. Top attendees were 7LAM, 8ADM, 9BJS and 10VEB
Ever Dreamed of Being in a Band? To mark the start of the Tour de France a Yorkshire band, Hope and Social, are visiting places on the route and performing some very exciting gigs. They want people to join their band and perform with them on stage! They are coming to Addingham on the afternoon of Saturday June the 21st and would like people from IGS to join them on stage and perform some of their songs.
The band are going to work with interested people before the gig so you don't have to be musical, just have lots of enthusiasm! If you think you would be interested and want to find out more about the gig check out the following website: http://hopeandsocial.com/tip/

Please help contribute to our iCentre – any tips, apps or

All IGS iPads should have
the name and tutor group
of the student owner as
part of their lock screen
image.
This helps when reuniting
owners and iPads in cases
of forgetfulness!
With half term approaching it is a good opportunity to remind our students about care of their iPad (for some their most treasured possession!) Please help them look after the iPad by following these simple instructions:
We mentioned YikYak in the iCentre a few weeks ago and the app has been in the news again this week. It is so easy to get unstuck with ‘anonymous’ sites: jokey comments can easily turn into cyber bullying and fellow commenters into co-conspirators. Don’t run the risk. Don’t use it and if it has been downloaded, delete it. Definitely not social media at its best!

No Umbrella Required! With the forecast set for fair (and dare we hope sunny!) we are hoping for a large crowd at our Car Boot Sale on Sunday.
Beat the rush and get there early if you are looking for a bargain, and if you are helping out on the Saturday or Sunday...thank you!
The Car Boots are not only a long standing IGS tradition, they are a hugely important source of fundraising – for everything from mini buses and resources for subject areas or learning support to outside benching and student social facilities.
The next 2 Car Boot Sales are scheduled for June 22nd and July 20th . Please give an hour or two of your time for one of the remaining Car Boots – either on a Saturday or Sunday – if you possibly can by emailing the PTA on [email protected].
The car boot sales are held on the school field, gates open at 7.30am for sellers and 8am for buyers and the sale will finish at 12.30pm. Standard pitches £10 and larger pitches £15. Parking for buyers is £1.
Meetings With our final meeting planned for Wednesday 11th June – it’s still not too late to get involved. The meetings start at 7pm and are held in school. If you can’t make our meetings but would like to be included then email [email protected].
You can follow the PTA on twitter @IGSPTA

GCSE Overview
Year 10 Year 11
Boys’ Uniform Following last week's article on school uniform, some parents have asked for clarification on the guidelines for boys’ trousers. Our school uniform states that charcoal, not black, trousers must be worn. We have received confirmation this week that both Dobson and Robinson and Trutex (our official school uniform stockists) have charcoal trousers, in all sizes, in stock. Students who do not wear our correct uniform will be challenged!
