Headers and footers are areas in the top and bottom margins of each page in a document.

User can insert or change text in headers and footers.

For example:- User can add page numbers, the time and date, a company logo, the document title or file name, or the author's name.

Insert the same header or footer on each page

Microsoft Office Word 2007 includes many predesigned headers or footers that user can insert into document.

Steps:-

1. On the Insert tab, in the Header & Footer group, click Header or Footer.

2. Click the required header or footer design.

3. Then header and footer is inserted on every page of the document.

Insert a custom header or footer

Use the following steps:-

a. On the Insert tab, in the Header & Footer group, click Header or Footer.

b. Click Edit Header or Edit Footer.

c. Type text or insert graphics and other content by using the options in the Insert group on the Design tab, under the Header & Footer Tools tab.

Insert the current date or time

Place the cursor where user wants to insert the date or time in the header or footer. Under Header & Footer Tools, on the Design tab, in the Insert group, click Date & Time. In the Available formats list, click the format in which you want the date and time to appear.

Insert the file name of the document

1) Place the cursor where you want to insert the file name in the header or footer.

2) Under Header & Footer Tools, on the Design tab, in the Insert group, click Quick Parts, and then click Field.

3) In the Field names list, click FileName. If user wants to include the path as part of the file name, select the Add path to filename check box.

Make first page header or footer different from the rest of the pages

Steps:-On the first page of the document, double click the header or footer area.Under Header & Footer Tools, on the Design tab, in the Options group, select the Different First Page check box.Then make changes to the existing header or footer, on the first page.If user does not want any header or footer on the first page then delete the contents written in the header or footer.

Make the header or footer different for odd and even pages

Steps:-

i. Click an odd-numbered page, such as first page of document.

ii. On the Insert tab, in the Header & Footer group, click Header or Footer.

iii. In the gallery of headers or footers, click a design.

iv. Under Header & Footer Tools, on the Design tab, in the Options group, select the Different Odd & Even Pages check box.

v. Under Header & Footer Tools, on the Design tab, in the Navigation group, click Next Section to advance the cursor to the header or footer for even-numbered pages.

Remove the header or footer

Use the following steps:- Click anywhere in the document. On the Insert tab, in the Header & Footer group, click Header or Footer. Click Remove Header or Remove Footer. The headers or footers are removed from the entire document.
