What Have Children Gained?Since Family Friends was set up in 1993, we have assistedhundreds of children and adolescents. Children have gainedconfidence and self-esteem by enjoying a positive relationshipwith a trusted adult, giving them someone to talk to andshare any problems or issues with. This relationship canmake a key difference to a child's social, emotional andeducational development.
Our mentors introduce children to new activities, enrol in localcommunity clubs and together visit places of interest andoutside spaces. Many of the children we have supportedhave developed academically, improved behaviour, enjoyedschool more and made new friends. Others have learnt howto cook healthy meals and have got fitter.

Who Is A Mentor ? . Someone who listens. Someone to go places and do things with. Someone to help with homework. Someone who understands. Someone to have fun with
Our ServiceThe service is for children aged between 5 and 16 years wholive in Kensington & Chelsea, Hammersmith & Fulham and SouthEast Brent (Dollis Hill, Mapesbury, Harlseden, Willesden Green,Brondesbury Park, Kensal Green, Queens Park and Kilburn). Fortwo hours each week, children may do one or more activitieswith their volunteer; playing games and sport, art and crafts, reading, visiting parks, libraries and museums, doing homeworkor just having a chat. We make a real effort to match each child/teenager with the right volunteer and children have an equalvoice in deciding how they spend their time. The volunteerspends 15 minutes of each visit with the parent/rest of thefamily to provide support to them when needed.
