T T he LORD he LORD

AND SALVATION;AND SALVATION;
whom shall I fear?whom shall I fear?
Psalm 27:1Psalm 27:1
A few years ago, I awoke to hear a tapping at the window of what had
become the guest bedroom. It happened every morning: a robin would
come and repeatedly tap on the window. Sometimes he perched on the
window sill and tapped. Sometimes he flew up from the roof and tapped.
This went on pretty much all morning, until the sun significantly shifted
position in the sky.
I eventually learned that dear Robin saw his reflection, and some quick
research indicated that he was protecting his territory by challenging the
bird he saw reflected back due to the sun’s position on the window to a
darkened room. But in the moment, it seemed symbolic. Looking at a
picture of him in flight, I was reminded of some of the pictures that depict
the Holy Spirit. Perhaps the Spirit was tapping to be let in- into the church,
into my home, into the heart. Or perhaps the taps were to remind me of the
Spirit’s presence. When I saw it in that light, every tap was a reminder of
God’s presence.
We all encounter symbols that we feel are God at work- a bald eagle
swooping down just as we need a reminder of the power of the Spirit,
seemingly sent just for us. Sometimes, there’s a perfectly mundane reason
for them- migration patterns led the eagle to this point and the pond has a
fish that’s easy to see and catch- but I don’t think that means they aren’t
symbolic as well. Science doesn’t mean that symbols are no longer just for
us; I think there’s a reason that our hearts turn to God in those times, and
that the mundane becomes symbolic: the Spirit has opened our heart to a
deeper meaning even in the midst of the mundane.
Pentecost will be here soon, the “birthday of the church”. On Pentecost
we remember that the Spirit did come and continues be present with us.
So let us continue to notice those symbols, reminded of God’s presence in
and truths for our lives, as we look ahead to Pentecost.
Blessings,
Pastor Annie

MEMORIAL DAY DINNER
A special thanks to our amazing summer camp students who
served our guests at the Memorial Day Meal. Also, thank
you to their families for providing delicious casseroles and
desserts, our wonderful Deacons who worked hard behind
the scenes (organizing and gathering supplies, cooking in the
kitchen, setting and cleaning up, etc.), Naomi Chaplin and Shirley Chancellor
for manning the ticket booth and Thrivent Financial which has provided $500
for this and other youth fundraising events.
All of this work combined allowed for a successful day in raising $1,163!
Besides the Memorial Day Dinner profit mentioned above, other fundraising
efforts have netted: Butter Braid Sales - $1608.60; Candle Sales - $1336;
Pancake Breakfast - $1030; Art Auction - $392; Sarah & Co. Sales - $130;
Portillo’s - $519; Schwann’s Cares - $232.72 and Prep, Freeze, Cook - $265.40.
(Prayer Jar donations have not yet been tabulated). These fundraisers are all
helping to send 42 students along with 8 adult leaders to our Great Escape
Summer Camp or Student Life Mission Camp in July.
Giving God thanks for the success our youth have experienced with all their
fundraising efforts. With thankful hearts we express our gratitude to Him who
established our plans and allowed them to be profitable.
"Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed." Proverbs 16:3

New Book! Really Bad Girls of the Bible - More Lessons
from Less-Than-Perfect Women by Liz Curtis Higgs
In Really Bad Girls of the Bible, author Liz Curtis Higgs continues
with her theme in Bad Girls of the Bible by steering away from
exemplary women of faith--the likes of Sarah or Esther, yet never
diminishing their roles. As in the first Bad Girl book, the author felt
a major disconnect in relating to characters who emanate perfection.
Thus Higgs' decision to research and bring to light hearts of imper-
fection--women of dark deeds/deceptive means. In both Bad Girls
and Really Bad Girls of the Bible, this counterintuitive approach
offers a mix of contemporary fiction, biblical commentary, and hope.
Each chapter ends with guided questions for contemplation/
discussion.
Read to find out why a million plus copies have been sold in this
series. Both books in this series are available in our library.

ENDLESS ENDLESS ENDLESS
BUZZ BUZZ BUZZ Kerri Cordray
This month our children, including many teens and adults, will
engage in the best week EVER (in my opinion) … ROAR VBS!
Our church will soon be filling up with eager and excited children
ready for a Bible adventure! The theme this summer is an African
safari, sending us traveling through awesome Bible passages to
discover that in our wildest moments in life, GOD IS GOOD!
Speaking of GOD IS GOOD …
It has been an incredible blessing to witness His goodness poured
out through so many of you in supporting our youth camp fundrais-
ers, LIGHT jars, and providing VBS supplies. You have heard it
said, “It takes a village”, I believe our church family is that picture
of His hands and feet coming together to shine His light on this
corner of the community. Sometimes “Life is Wild” but always-
GOD IS GOOD!
Our wonderful Mission and Outreach has generously supported a
gift to our VBS children, a book called, Notes From Jesus, What
Your New Best Friend Wants You to Know. This special treasure
will speak Scripture and encouragement into these young children’s
hearts and lives. Here are a few awesome nuggets from the book:
I (Jesus) want you to know…
I love being with you.
I like hearing you say you love me.
I’m not surprised when you mess up.
I’m just like you- but different.
I know it’s hard when you can’t see me.
I don’t always give you what you ask for.
I’ll never get tired of your questions.
I made you for a purpose.
You’re worth more than anything else.
I’m saving you a spot in heaven.
DO HARD THINGS- TEEN SUMMER CHALLENGE We are super excited to begin the journey
through the Do Hard Things book, beginning
Monday, June 3. Each Monday beginning at 5:30 pm and concluding
around 6:45 pm, we will dive into great discussion and challenge our
group of teens to go deeper into their journey with the Lord and allow His
expectation of them to rise above the "norm". I love this quote from the
book, "What each of us will become later in life largely depends on what
we become now."
IT’S NOT TOO LATE TO JOIN US!
Please note the following reading schedule. With books in the second
shipment arriving late, we may need to modify slightly. Please encourage
your child to do their best (Do Hard Things) to prepare for each week's study, including completing the study guide.
June 3: Chapters 1-2
June 10: Chapters 3-5
June 17: Chapters 6-7
As we all well know, the kids love to snack! Anyone willing to provide something fun for the kids to munch on during their time together, please
let Kerri know. Thank you!
We have 3 leaders who will guiding the students through this summer book journey: Wendy Brent, Bryon Owens and Kerri Cordray. If you
have any questions please reach out to one of us. We are all committed to ensuring these students have the best possible learning experience,
while coaching them to Do Hard Things! We appreciate your support!
June 24: Chapters 8-10
July 1: Chapters 11-12
I encourage you to be praying for our ROAR VBS week and for
our upcoming Great Escape & Student Life Camps. God is Always
Good! Looking forward to diving into wild adventures with
children and teens, as together we discover His amazing love
and seek His wonderful truth found in His Word!
ROARing with thanks and praise to our Good God!

Did you know that our church has a web page and is
on Facebook. These two programs allow us to listen to
worship services and stay in touch with church events
where ever we are.
The website, leroypresbyerian.info, can also be accessed by googling LeRoy
Presbyterian Church and selecting “website”. Here you will find a greeting, news
of upcoming events, worship service and Sunday school times, contact info, church
staff and officers, and a nice history of the church. There's also a Pastor’s page,
the monthly calendar, children and youth ministries, and the monthly newsletter.
There is also a link to our Facebook page. Facebook information includes contact
info, worship service videos, upcoming events, and lots of pictures.
If you need help using these great programs, please sign up on sheet posted in the
hallway (to gauge interest) and watch for the upcoming electronic tutoring sessions.
LOOP & LANDING traveled to Grady’s Family Fun Park in Bloomington on April 28th to enjoy miniature golf, go-kart racing, games and naturally, some delicious pizza!
