From the Principal and Campus Co-ordinator Strength in Numbers What a wonderful couple of weeks it has been at Oran Park Anglican College. The term has flown by and one might think that we are winding down for the final couple of weeks, but nothing could be further from the truth! The first week in April, which is the last week of College, is one of our busiest thus far in the College’s short history. On Sunday, 1 April is the inaugural Oran Park Family service, at which the students are performing. A Mufti day on Monday, 2 April (Gold coin donation). On Wednesday, 4 April is the College’s official opening which will be a wonderful event marking the beginning of the College proper. We will also be holding our Easter hat parade and Easter egg hunt on Thursday, 5 April commencing at 2 pm. No wonder that we have deemed this week our ‘Celebration’ week.
On Wednesday, 21 March Thomas Hassall held its annual Cross Country Carnival. Oran Park had 19 students from Yr 2 to Yr 5 compete. We were so proud of all the students and their efforts. All the O.P.A.C. students finished their event and represented the College with resilience and pluck.
We had several top ten finishes and two podium finishes – congratulations to Gabrielle Coleman and Josiah Beggs who both finished second in their respective events. Along with these students, three others qualified for the NASSA Cross Country to be held next term: Lochie Stewart; Daniel Squire and Natasha Barlow. Once again these are our first ever Cross Country representatives to qualify for NASSA, more to add to College ‘Legend’. This past weekend saw the College’s first involvement in Camden Show, and ‘boy, what a show’ it was for O.P.A.C. Not only did our K,1,2 E ‘Spikeasuarus’ scarecrow achieve 3rd place in its category, the O.P.A.C. exhibit achieve 3rd place in the Educational exhibits (special thanks to Mr Moynan, Mrs.Lynch and staff for their hard work, as well as the P&F committee members who assisted!) but we also had over fifty expressions of interest. It seems that our ‘small’ College will only remain that way for a short period of time. This is certainly an answer to prayer and a joyous reminder to: Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments. Deuteronomy 7:9 Mr Ross Whelan Mr Jonathan Beggs College Principal Campus Co-ordinator
