1 Product specification

HDD MDVR (Automotive) is a cost-effective, functional and scalable device designed for

video surveillance and remote monitoring of your mobile assets. It uses a high-speed

processor, an embedded Linux platform and combines the most advanced IT processes such

as H.264 Video Compression/Decompression, networking and GPS positioning technology.

MDVR enables CIF, HD1 and D1 video formats. Drivers' driving information, recording and

wireless data are uploaded to SD Memory Cards which are used as the storage medium. A

MDVR centric software platform (CMS) can be realized with links to a Central Alarm

monitoring system for remote management and playback analysis. The MDVR may look

simple in its exterior design, provides powerful auto black box features, installation

flexibility and high reliability.

5. Power cable

Power cable as picture 9,one end is 6pin white plug , it connect with the 6pin white plug of

device back panel.The red and black cables are directly connect to the vehicle's battery. Red

cable to positive , black cable to negtive. Yellow cable is FIREWIRE. The device will

automatically start when turn on the vehicle key ,and close when turn off the vehicle key . Yellow

cable is connected to the gear that vehicle key open all the dashboard light(the gear of

starting vehicle motor ).

Notes：

1）Before connecting, confirm the voltage is between 8V—36V or else ,if over this range ,the

device will be fired

2）After connecting the cables, Ensure that power cables are insulated to prevent short circuiting

and burning out the battery.

3）The Yellow cable must be connected to the vehicle ignition cable, otherwise the device will not

be able to execute the delayed shutdown and the final moment of the video will be lost;

4）Note: Connection to the vehicle's engine must be connected directly to the positive anode of

the battery. Do Not Use bond strap for grounding as it will produce negative pulses that would

interfere the device's normal operation. The negative pole of the power code must be Φ1.5mm and

above.

7.Alarm input and output：

The device has 8 alarm input and 2 alarm output interfaces. Alarm input detection is level

detection.Various state of alarm level can be detected while the vehicle is in motion, such as

braking, steering horn etc. Below is a diagram that shows when the braking vane Is depressed, the

MDVR would be able to detect the high level, otherwise, just detect the low level.

Alarm outputs are level output drive capability for the 200MA, if you want to drive relatively

large power device, must connect external relay. Shown below is the Alarm output photoelectric

alarm wiring diagram.

8. Device Installation Guide

A Inspecting the Accessories

After unpacking, please check the device for damage or deformation. If there are, please do

not install the device and get in touch with the supplier. In the product box there is a packing list.

Please cross check this list with the device and its accompanying accessories.

B HDD、SIM card、SD card installation

Unlock by the key, insert the HDD into the HDD slot in front of the mainframe. Notice: if

draw out THE HDD,the front part of HDD should has a space of over 150cm(the length of

HDD),SIM card is located on the communication board,move the small baffle at the bottom of

the mainframe,you can see the interface of SIM card .

If system support wireless network communication, need install SIM card; SIM card and

SIM are in the same location,you can see them ,just when you move the baffle at the bottom

of the mainframe .

4 Remote Control Function Instruction

There is no control button on MDVR panel, need remote control to fit operating

Key-press & function as below:

Digit keys zone：

【0－9】key：Under setting，use for select digit. During playback and preview，1、2、

3、4 is for the switch of the channels

【＋】、【－】key：adjust digit when plus or deduct

【ENTER】key：under setting，means select and save

On playback condition, press ENTER can reveal parameters in OSD OVERLAY menu

when it‟s ON on screen.

Startup/power off Through screen， press this button twice for reboot（soft start key）

The System include five modules:general setup、record search、manage tool、peripheral,system

Notice:

1.All of below sub-menu setting will only be effective after confirm”Save”,Otherwise the setting

is noneffective.

2.There will be a yellow frame surround the icon,means means secleted the fucstion.Otherwise

means not.

3. Number input could use both the number key in the IR Remote and soft keyboard.While the

number enter coulde only use the soft keyboard.Press “Return” to back to the Sub-menu.

5.1 User Login

Connect power cable ,then press LOGIN on remote control to operate,

1.Device No.:Set the Series No.for each device.It will show on the right side of the series

No.input frame.Users just input the same No. as it show

2.User‟s Name and Password:Set the user‟s info in the user‟s management module in

system.Input user‟s name and the password,enter the system and operate

5.2.1 Basic Setting

1. Time Setting:User can set the time,If choose “24 hours”time version,it could set the tiem

within 24 hours,otherwise could only set the time within 12 hours.The revised time will be

controled by the system,For example,The tens digit of hour could set “2” as the biggest,if the input

number is bigger than “2”,it will default as “2” automaticly.

Select the column you need to revise,move the cursor to the number you need to revise,and

input the new number directly.

2.Date Setting:User can set the date, The revised date will also be controled by the system,For

example,The tens digit of monte could set “1” as the biggest,if the input number is bigger than

“1”,it will default as “2” automaticly.

Select the column you need to revise,move the cursor to the number you need to revise,and

input the new number directly.

3.Time Version:User select this column,then press”enter” to open the fram,choose on/off,then

press”enter”to enable the function.The selected letter will be white color.Wehn choose “on”,the

time version will be 24 hour version.When “off” the time version will be 12 hour version,and it

will be a “AM/PM” option behine the time frame.Not matter on/off,the recording package time

use 24 hours version

5.Time zone: Operation way as above,different area user could choose their local time zone.

6.OPR Time Out:Operation way as above,There are 1/5/15min three options.

7.Timing Mode:Three options:Manual,NTP,Auto.When select “Auto”,it will adjust the time

auto via GPS.When select “Manual”,user could only revise the system time by themselves.When

select “NTP”,I will show “NTP IP”,”NTP” two column.Input the server IP in the NTP IP

column,if select “auto” in the NTP mode,when achieve the adjusted time,the timing will be

automaticlly done via server.

8.Timing Time:Input the GPS auto timing time.

9.Power Mode:There are “Ignition/Timing” two options.Ignition:The DVR will be auto power

on when the vehicle start the engine,auto shut down when the vehicle turn off.Choose this

mode,could set shut down delay(5-180min).

Timing mode:the DVR will auto power on at the setting time.When choose this mode,user

should set the auto power on/off time,timing recording

5.2.2 Vehicle Setting

Instruction：

1.Dev Num:User can set the Dev Num in this module.

2.Dev S/N:The Dev S/N is only series NO.for each device when leaving factory,It is written into this

chip,could not be revised.User could check it here.

3.The use of Soft Keyboard:Chinese/English.When input English,choose the letter and

press[enter].Press 【 S】to input the block letters.

4.Company name,Vehicle Number,Driver Name,Route No:Select the column and input the

number;Press [Enter] into the soft keyboard screen

5.2.3 Channel Setting

Instruction:

1. Channel:There are 1/2/3/4 four channels for option.

2. REC Mode:There are AUTO/SCHEDULE/MANUAL/STOP,When user select

“AUTO”,Device will auto record after it power on;When user select”Schedule”,set

relevant schedule in the schedule setting.When user select”Manual”,Press”record”to

start recording,press “stop”to stop.When a channel select “Stop”,then it will not start

recording not matter what happen.

3.Resolution,Image Quality:These are recording parameter.User can set different recording

resolution(D1/HD1/CIF),Pal(1-25),NTSC(1-30) options for different

resolution.Different Imange Quality for option(1-3).D1 is the highest

resolution,0 is the best image qualtiy.

4.Sound Recording,Preview,Video Loss:When sound recording function open up,the video

will be phonic;when the function shut,the video file will have only image

not sound;When preview function open up,the video in this channel will be

showed in the channel sreen,when the function shut,the channel screen will

show no video.When the Video Loss funtion open up,then,it will

show”Video Loss”in this channel screen when the video lose.

5.Sub-Streaming:This the video parameter for network transmission.When it open up,there

will be a setting buttom to set the parameter behine.Every channel could

set different video resolution for network transmission.Different

resolution(HD1/CIF/QCIF),Different frame per second(1-25),Different

image quality(0-3);HD1 is the highest resolution,0 is the best image

quality.

6.Copy current parameter:When user need to set the parameter of several channels or all

channels,can set one channel first,and then,input the relevant channel

number or all channel to copy the parameter to them.Optional channel ：

1-4channels,all channels

Instruction:

1.Output Version:PAL/NTSC for option.Choose the same version with Input version.

2.Recording Schedule:After selected”Schedule”in Recording Mode,user need to set the schedule

here.Select “Enter”to enter the setting screen,as picutre 16.There are two period schedule for

setting.If the recording schedule for everyday one week are the same,user could set the time in

“everyday”,and choose the relevant recording type(Normal/Event/Alarm).It will begin

recording if fufill the recording type.If everyday a week has different recording schedule,user

could set two schedule for each day.

3. Alarm Record Set:Select this column,press “enter”to enter the setting window.

Alarm output time:15s/30s/45s/60s for option.

Alarm pre-record:It will pre-record a period of time before alarm according to the setting

time(1min-60min).

Alarm recording delay:After alarm stop,it will still record a period time according to this

setting(1min-30min)

4 Event Record:Setting way is the same with alarm record setting.

5.Others:Auto overlay.When this function open up,the current new video will overlay the earliest

recording when the HD is full to make sure the HD space is enough to continue recording.If this

function shut,the devise will stop recording after the HD full.

Time Period:The time period of each video.User can choose15/30/45/60min,as each package

time.

Alarm file lock:The storage time extension for alarm files.Within the protection time,even the

HD is full,the alarm files will not be overlayed.Press enter to select 5/7/10/15 days.

5. Recording Type:Including I frame/Normal.I fps means,the devise will only record I

fram,Normal means recording all.

6. Buzzer Switch: With buzzer ON , when it alarm , you can hear the voice ; if it „s OFF ,

No any noice.

7. Event record export: Turn on it , all the events record will be exported to the stoage

Device ,

8. Export device: Pre USB/Postpositive USB/HD, user can select thestorage device of export

record.

9. Mirror Record : Turn on it , there will be mirror record and kept in external HDD or other

storage device ; turn off it , no any mirror record.

5.2.5 Network Setting

5.2.5.2 3G Setting

When DVR connect network by 3G,set up network in this step ,as picture 19:

1. Insert related SIM card according to the communication configuration (WCDMA and

EVDO) of the device.

2. Edit the following information on 3G setting interface:

a. Set WIRELESS as ON;

b. Select the communication type on TYPE ,if the device support WCDMA type,then select

WCDMA ; it it support EVDO ,then select EVDO ,press ENTER to select it ;

c. Default APN and CENTER NUM,input the user name and password of your SIM

card ,keep it blank if no, press ENTER to access to software interface and set up it .

3. Press INFO on remote control , you will see the related information of 3G

communication,if need reported into CMS server, then input the CMS center IP or domain

name address and port No in center IP of center setting.

5.2.5.3 WIFI Setting

Instructions:

1.Insert WIFI antenna;

2.Edit the following information on WIFI setting interface:

a. Set up the ENABLE and ENCRIPTION as ON .AUTH mode including WPA，WPA-PSK，

OPEN and SHARE . ENCRIPT TYPE including TKIP and AES; The AUTH MODE is not act at

present, so just select OPEN (no need authentication);Select WEP on ENCRIPT TYPE . Press

ENTER to set it up.

b. Input SSID and password , set up IP、NETMASK and GATEWAY. Press ENTER to set up

SSID and password; When set up IP、NETMASK and GATEWAY, select the part that need

modification,and input figure.

c. Check WIFI connection status in sytem information interface,if WIFI singal >-60 d B, it

means WIFI has connected with network.If need reported to CMS server, then input the CMS

center IP or domain name address and port No in center IP of center setting.

5.2.5.4 Center Setting

Instructions:

1.Server Address: IP/ DOMAIN setting, if select IP,input IP of CMS center server; if select

DOMAIN setting ,input DOMAIN address in the address line;

2. Control Port: The port No seted up as gateway is usually 8501; When changing server IP、

control port , just select the line and press No keys.

5.2.6.1 IO setting

1. IO : There are 8 IO interface( default as IO01-IO08), select the IO that you need

2.Name : Definite the IO name according to different interface when install DVR;

3.Enable：Set ENABLE as ON to start up the IO;

4.Electronic Level:With ENABLE ON ,user can confirm the level of causing alarm, < 4v is

low level ,> 4v is high level;

5.Type： User can delimit the IO is alarm or event;

6.Record：ON/OFF option. With ON status , if the recorded vedio type is defined

In plan record ,it will be recorded when contact the IO ; with OFF status , no record even

contact the IO.

7.Output Select：There are two alarm output interface(output 1 and output 2),user can select

output interface of every IO but not output.

8.Output Time：User can delimit the contact duration time of the IO

9.Lock: Select lock , then the record of this IO will be locked , it can be deleted or added

only unlocked it or over the alarm record protection time ; If unlocked it ,it „s

the same as common record.

5.2.6.2 Speed Setting

1.Speed Source ：GPS/ vehicle setup option in Speed Source, press ENTER to select it . If

select GPS ,the speed can be tranmitted into device only with GPS module and GPS singal exist;

If select vehicle setup .pls connect the peripheral sensor to count speed ratio ,then input it into P/S

line and keep it ,you‟ll see the vehicle real-time speed in CHECK line.

2.Speed Unit:User can select different speed unit KPH and MPH, then the speed unit of

TERESHOLD is the same as this unit.

3.Enable :Turn on ENABLE to start this functiom,or else , it lower or higher speed alarm won‟ t

act.

4.Tereshold: User can set up the alarm speed ,it will alarm when the speed is lower or higher

than the tereshold of alarm speed .

5.Record: User can self-define it „s event or alarm ,if the recorded vedio type has been seted

up in plan record , then it will start to record it after alarm

6.Lock: Select lock ,record of this IO will be locked , it can be deleted or covered only when it

Instruction

1.Temperature Unit :Select the Temperature Unit (℃and ℉)as required ,then the TERESHOLD

unit will be the same as the selected one .

2.Enable: Set ENABLE as ON to start the function ,if it‟ s OFF , the low and high temperature

the alarm function won‟t act .

3. TETESHOLD:User can set up the alarm termperature here , when the termperature is lower

or higher than TERESHOLD , it will alarm.

4.Record:. User can self-define it „s event or alarm ,if the recorded vedio type has been seted up

in plan record , then it will start to record it after alarm

5.Lock: when select LOCK , the record of this IO will be locked ,it can be deleted or covered

only when it‟s unlocked or over alarm record protection

Time ; If it‟s unlocked, it‟s the same as commin record .

The information displayed is mainly time、GPS、speed、IO 、WIFI singal、3G singal、

connection status. Select the items ,then press ENTER to operate.

1.Display: Turn on it , you can see the corresponding information on sreen , if turn off it , no

2.Record：It mainly control if the information is added on the record ,if turn on it , you can see

the corresponding information on vedio record when playback .

【FWD】: Forward key. Press one time, the speed will increase to twice, press twice, the

speed will increase to double, it can be to fourfold.

【PAUSE/STEP】: Pause key

【REW】: Fast reverse key

【PLAY】: when in FWD, REW,PAUSE situation, press PLAY to recover normal play

situation.

5.4.1 User Account

1. When the password enable is ON, please input password to log in system; When the

password enable is OFF, press【LOGIN】to go into system directly .

2. System user own all limits of authority , can manage normal user: ADD USER,

MODIFY USER, DELECT USER; and domestic user just has the limits

authorized by system administrator .

Choose the ADD button, press 【enter】go into interface, as picture 32 . Put into

user name , choose the user type (system user /domestic consumer), set password,

authorize limits , then click SAVE . Modify or delete user in the user account

interface .

5.4.2 Disk Manage

Select media HDD, click format ; then a prompt drums out , click SAVE to start format,

DVR System will be restart once format completed.

5.4.3 System upgrade

Notice:

Choose the upgrade ( Firmware or single chip software), CURRENT VERSION shows

the current version information . There are two ways to upgrade system:

1.Put the software file into Usb Flash drive , then connect to MDVR, when the MDVR

starts, system will update software automatically .

2. Choose the upgrade Firmware or single chip software, then click UPGRADE.

Important notice: Don‟t cut power or restart system when system is upgrading.

5.4.4 Config Manage

2. Press New configuration import into information for the same setting MDVR.

3, Press Reset setting , then the MDVR will recover the setting at the time when leave factory.

5.5.2 PTZ

PTZ setup as picture 41:

Instructions：

1.Channel： Select the channel No of the PTZ;

2.Protocol： PELCO-D and PELCO-P protocol;

3.Baud Rate：Including 1200/2400/4800/9600 four selections，user can select;

Different PTZ setting according to different baud rate;

4.Data Bit： Data bit is usually 8,choose 1-8;

5.Stop Bit： Stop bit is usually 1, choose 1 and 2;

6.Check： Check bit , choose none;

7.Address Code：Input the corresponding address with PTZ ;

8.Cable Connecting：Negtive connect with RS485-B,negtive connect with RS485-A.

9.Remote Control Operation：Setup ，，， on menu guide, they are up、down、

left、right, “+”、“-”of 【ZOOM】 is zoom in and zoom out function key.

【Focus】 adjust focus distance.【IRIS-】 adjust IR light,【PRESET】i

preset 【RECALL】 call preset 【BRUSH】refresh the interface.

Notes：After user setup the parameter of PTZ,select the channel that connect with PTZ, then

use the remote control to control PTZ, for example,PTZ is connected on channel 2,

then shift to channel 2 to control it .
