HCU 70th ANNUAL MEETING Hometown Credit Union held its 70th Annual Meeting on Friday, February 14th at the Kulm Community Center, with a total of 137 members in attendance. The staff served a delicious supper prepared by the Kulm Tasty Treats. Harold Ha- gen, CEO, welcomed the members and reported on the accomplishments of the credit union in 2019. He was pleased to announce that for the sixth consecutive year, members would receive a special patronage dividend. Employees recognized for their years of service were Lisa Irion, 5 years, and Patty Flegel, 25 years. Harold announced that Abby Wolf has been promoted to HR Man- ager. Board members whose terms were up for election were Carl Lindgren and Mike Taszarek. The nominating committee was unable to find any members willing to run for these positions. There were no other nominations from the floor, so a unanimous ballot was cast to reelect Lindgren and Taszarek. Members were awarded several door prizes, including ten $70 cash prizes in honor of Hometown Credit Union’s 70th Annual Meet- ing. Members who were unable to attend can view the annual report on the HCU website. For the 6th consecutive year, Hometown Credit Union is pleased to announce that the credit union members have received a special patronage dividend! The dividend is based on the average monthly bal- ance of member’s deposits and loans during 2019. Over $1.9 million has been given back to members in the past five years. This year $455,180 was distributed to members. Please review your statement to see the amount deposited to your regular share savings account. All special patronage dividends that calculated at less than $1.00 were not paid. It was not feasible for Hometown Credit Union to post these small credits because administrative costs exceed the value of the dividend. No special patronage dividends were paid on accounts that were closed during 2019 and the first quarter of this year. The special dividend will not affect your 2019 taxes, but will be included on your 2020 1099-INT form. IRS CHANGES FOR 2020A law enacted in December of 2019, called the Secure Act, made several changes to IRA plan rules. One of the most notable changes is you can delay when you are required to take minimum distributions from your IRA account. Any person born on or after July 1, 1949 does not have to take the required minimum distributions until they reach age 72.

Another important change is the Secure Act repealed age restiction for Traditional IRA contributions. Effective this year, if a person has earned income they can make a contribution to a Traditional IRA. This is very good news for anyone who works past age 70. The contribution limits for 2020 are the same as last year, $6,000 for people under the age of 50 and $7,000 if you are 50 or older.
