General Information for Students and Parents Cynthia Strasmann Harbor Council PTA 1 st Vice President, Programs General Timeline June 2016 – August 2016 Take advantage of the summer months to work on your creation. Be creative…Have fun! September 2016 When school resumes, be on the lookout for the following from your PTA: Student Entry form (must be signed) General requirements for each category Important dates for submission October 2016 Be prepared to submit artwork to your PTA. Make sure it meets the requirements for that category (i.e. size). Ensure to submit your signed Student Entry form and artist statement to your PTA by deadline. November 2016 Your PTA chooses a selection of entries to be sent on to Harbor Council PTA for consideration. Students (and their families) whose artwork advances to this level are invited to attend an art reception mid-November at the Council. January 2017 Harbor Council PTA chooses a selection of entries to be sent to 4 th District PTA for consideration. Students (and their families) whose artwork advances to this level are invited to attend an art reception at the end of the month. May 2017 4 th District PTA chooses a final selection of entries to be sent to the California State PTA for consideration. Winning entries (Award of Excellence) receive: v Opportunity to showcase their artwork at CA State PTA Convention v Prizes such as a medal, certificate, $100 savings bond v Expense paid trip for winning student and one parent to convention. It’s All About the Arts!

Participation is Easy, Exciting and Empowering! Students of all ages, grade levels and abilities attending PTA schools sponsoring the program are invited to participate. Students create an original work inspired by the theme: What Is Your Story? Students’ works will be judged for personal interpretation on the theme, how creative and original it is. Students may choose one or all of the available arts categories:

v Dance Choreography v Literature v Photography v Film Production v Music Composition v Visual Arts

Grade Divisions:

v Primary (Preschool – Grade 2) v Intermediate (Grades 3-5) v Middle School (Grades 6-8) v High School (Grades 9-12) v Special Artist (All Grades Welcome)

Remember, you don’t have to be an artist ~

Just a desire to express yourself!
