3D Printing Design workshop (10 Nov – 13 Nov) – 3 Half days Have you heard the latest news? NASA is doing 3D printing of rocket components from scratch and firing them ! 3D printing has grown in popularity over the last two years and has spurred lots of interesting innovations from this technology. Have you ever wanted to make a 3D solid object of virtually any shape from a digital model? If you wanted to know more about 3D design and printing, this is the workshop for you. In this workshop, you will be provided with an Introduction to 3D printing, different types of printers, the printing technologies, different types of printing materials and how an object is printed You will also learn about the fundamentals of Designing for 3D Print and given an introduction to 3D Modelling Software. At the end of the workshop, you will design your own 3D model and get it printed with a 3D printer. Learning Journey to 3M (12 Nov – 9am to 12pm)

When we think of 3M, most of us would immediately link it with Post-it Notes. But 3M is more than just a Post-it Notes company. To date, the company serves a multitude of consumer and industrial markets and is a market leader in many of these markets, which include electronics, oil and gas, shipbuilding, automotive aftermarket, construction, health care, semiconductor, aerospace, and consumer markets. It has successfully transformed itself from a sandpaper company in the early 1900s to a multi-national conglomerate business today. This process must have involved many product developments, which have resulted in breakthroughs. To achieve breakthroughs is challenging, as it is not the same as merely producing line extensions and incremental improvements to existing products and services. To add to the challenge, the pace of change in today’s markets requires developers to come up with breakthroughs more regularly. So how has 3M managed to cope with such demands? Part of the answer can be found in the process they have developed which enables the generation of breakthrough products and services to be more systemic.

The visit to 3M comprise tour of facilities, sharing of 3M’s New Product Introduction Cycle and interaction with scientists and engineers who are spearheading innovation projects.

Autodesk Design workshop (10 Nov – 11 Nov) – 1 full day + 0.5 days

At the workshop, students will experience the following:1. Learn to be proficient with Autodesk 123D2. become more aware of their creativity capacity3. learn to create innovative designs for print

SKIES Experiential workshop (10 Nov – 13 Nov) – 3 Half days

This program aims to share with students the overview of theaviation industry as well as the latest trends and development inthe industry, to provide the best learning experience toour students.Having participated in the program allows students to be moreadept and knowledgeable in the area of aviation, and throughactive participation, students will be more motivated to consider acareer in the aviation industry after going through the program.

Industry Field Visits and Learning Experiences

Seeing is Believing and Experiencing is Learning. We take it one step furtherby bringing an element of an actual site visit to the actual site.We seek to bring in the best leaders in the aviation industry, with the big names like Rolls Royce, ST Aerospace as well as MAJ Aviation in order to provide ourstudents the highest learning benefit. Learn about the company’sculture and its contribution to the aviation industry through thewords of the company’s representatives

Fun with Electronics and Applications (10 Nov – 14 Nov) – 4 Half days

Facilitated by Dr Arthur Tay from NUS EEE and Dr Lim Jit Ning from HCI college section

Almost all devices we have around us have an electronics circuit in it. In this workshop, Dr Tay and Dr Lim will introduce you to the wonderful world of electronics components that make up an electronic circuit. You will learn about Arduino, a popular electronic tinkering platform that allows almost anyone to build an interactive device. You will have the opportunity to build a low-cost electronic device with Arduino.

You may even consider using this platform for your project next year. For sec 3 students, there will be projects in the areas of biomedical devices, UAVs, infocomm technologies offered by Dr Tay for you next year. For sec 4 students moving on to college, you will have an opportunity to work with Dr Tay and Dr Lim on an electronics project for an international competition, iCAN. International Contest of Application in Nano-micro Technology (iCAN) is the first international youth innovation contest in micro/nano fields. The mission of iCAN is to promote the innovative spirits of youth, to construct a collaboration platform between academy and industry, to accelerate the applications of nano-micro technology and to educate the young generation in high-tech research and development.

DSTA Workshop [Defence Science] (10 Nov – 13 Nov) – 3 Half days
