Over the last year, the Harris County Hospital District Foundation has focused its efforts

on building a healthier community, funding programs to improve the lives of our patients

and educating the community about the incredible work the Harris County Hospital District

does every single day.

This annual report highlights a few of our accomplishments over the last fiscal year.

We are proud of the work we have achieved and hope you will take some time to learn about

ways the Foundation and the gifts of our donors have impacted the lives of our patients.

We look forward to your continued support of the Hospital District and Foundation during

this exciting time of growth. The HCHD Foundation is committed to supporting the Hospital

District as it strives to provide high-quality health care to all residents of Harris County.

Capital Campaign New Beginnings Day in the District Tangible Giving

3The Harris County Hospital district recently broke ground on the Ambulatory Care Tower and the J. evans and mary P. Attwell Radiation Therapy Center. Thanks to a public-private partnership between HCHd, the Foundation and the Houston community, this tower will help HCHd expand its healthcare delivery system. improving patient access to healthcare services, reducing wait times, focusing on preventative healthcare and serving more people is sure to bring smiles to the faces of our patients. scheduled to be completed in 2012, this facility will offer general medicine, obstetrics, pediatrics and oncology services. it will also include a breast Center of excellence, diagnostic imaging and facilities for outpatient treatments.

Donors, elected officials, board members and HCHD leadership broke ground on the new Ambulatory Care Tower on October 6, 2010. The tower, serving approximately 150,000 patients annually, will shorten wait time for visits and treatments for our patients.

5Kay bollinger knows that giving newborns a good start is essential to a happy and healthy childhood. When she learned that many of the mothers giving birth at HCHd often have a hard time providing some of the essentials for their newborns, she decided to take action. Kay granted $5,000 to the HCHd Foundation to fund her vision… a new beginnings program. she works with the Foundation and HCHd social Work department to identify at-risk families and provide those families with a ‘baby shower in a basket’—each stocked with newborn essentials like diapers, blankets, health kits, bath supplies and infant rockers. delivered during the holiday season, these baskets spread heartwarming smiles as the moms receive an unexpected surprise before leaving the hospital.

New Beginnings has provided more than 100 baskets to families in its first two years.

Child Life Specialist Bridgett Davis demonstrates special massage techniques for Day in the District participant Linda May. Infant massage provides babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit with human contact that is soothing and a respite from medical procedures.

Our day in the district program gives community, corporate and civic leaders an opportunity to experience first-hand the compassionate and high-quality healthcare provided to all residents of Harris County, regardless of their ability to pay. Participants are outfitted in scrubs and a white doctor’s coat as they shadow physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals one-on-one. day in the district alum brett Haugh, Principal at employee benefit solutions, has a “much greater appreciation for the role that public healthcare plays in operating a balanced community, and is grateful for the experience and proud to know that our tax dollars are being used in a quality and efficient manner.”

Only 11 years old, megan Robinson is a little lady with a big heart. she has made it her mission every year before easter to collect toys, crayons, coloring books, puzzles, stuffed animals and more for HCHd pediatric patients. each year, megan coordinates the entire effort and involves her family, friends, neighbors and classmates to participate in a drive that has brought in more than 1,000 items for pediatrics over the last 5 years. Her donation always brings smiles to children who receive care in HCHd facilities.

megan and her sister, Kaitlin, deliver hundreds of toys to HCHd every year on good Friday. Her efforts result in one of the largest annual tangible donations received by the HCHd Foundation.
