Planning Application for the Sports Pitches Approved

Uttlesford District Council has granted planning permission for the landscaping required to prepare the sports pitches. This was a major milestone for the project. One of the planning committee said it was “too good an opportunity to miss.”

By successfully delivering the improved plan for the pitches the Village Green Working Group has shown its ability to work with and listen to major stakeholders like English Heritage, Essex Biodiverity Project, ECC Historic Environment Branch, English Nature, Essex Amphibian & Reptile Group, Essex County Cricket Club, The Essex FA, HBO FC, HBO CC and most importantly of all you!

Pond Regeneration with The Essex Wildlife Trust

Regenerating the pond is a vital part of the first phase. The Essex Biodiverity Project has taken the lead role in this by providing us with guidance on what

needs to be done and how best to do it. We have found their expertise and enthusiasm invaluable.

The pond currently is in a very sorry state and full of rubbish, including the proverbial kitchen sink. It is overgrown, stagnant, polluted with cow waste, and trees surrounding it cut out the sun.

We will turn this in to healthy pond that wildlife will thrive in so we can all enjoy it in the open park.

Youth & Public Shelter

The shelter is ready to be installed on site. Once the temporary fencing and safety work done the first part of the park will be opened up to all of us.

What Next for the Sports Pitches The next stage is for archaeological surveys to be carried out. This involves a number of trenches being dug and then carefully searched by qualified archaeologists.

In the meantime we are busy applying for grant funding from various sources to raise money. The first round of funding will be for the earthworks, fencing, pond regeneration and making the site safe.

Once funding has been secured and with a go ahead from the archaeological survey then the landscaping can begin.

Lease Finalised Agreed

The Parish Council now have the lease for the site for 99 years. The landlord has most generously given an additional 2 acres at the north of the site for parking and a vehicle entrance outside the village. Over 10 acres of parkland have been protected from any unwanted future development.

Vehicle Entrance Essex Highways met with the Village Green Working Group and found the best entrance for vehicles. It is on the Dunmow Road B183, about 85m outside of the village so what little additional traffic there is will have a minimal impact in the village. Any cars coming from the Takeley direction will not need to enter the village at all. The Parish Council will apply for planning permission for the entrance from Uttlesford once formal approval is granted by Highways.

Car Park The car park will be on reinforced grass so when it is not in use it will look like a grass meadow. The location is just to the north of the pitches and beyond the last house on Dunmow Road. It will only be open for matches, training sessions and other events on the site. The rest of the time the gate will be locked and closed. We will have spaces to allow for about 40 cars.

The Community Pavilion New plans for the community pavilion are being developed by the Working Group. The improved designs for the pavilion are due in no small part to having listened closely to diverse opinions of the village community. The consensus of which has been for a reduced overall size. Once the Parish Council approves the new plans they will be submitted for planning permission.
