HAZELWOOD EAST MIDDLE SCHOOL 8TH GRADE CENTER PROGRAM

With the Hazelwood East Middle School 8th Grade Center Program, the Hazelwood School District intends to offer students with interests in Broadcasting, Health Sciences, or Information Technology and Coding a program specific to their needs in pursuing a college degree or a career in one of these areas after graduating high school. The East Middle School program is designed to offer students opportunities to pursue a career pathway of interest beginning in their 8th grade year either under a traditional pathway model or under an accelerated model. The program will offer college credit to students through Advanced Placement, dual credit, and/or dual enrollment courses.

Traditional Model Under the traditional model, students may choose to pursue one of the pathways in a traditionally paced school setting, graduating from high school in four years with a traditional diploma.

Accelerated Model Students in the accelerated model will also choose one of the three pathways, but they will move through school at a faster pace either graduating after three years of high school or graduating with Missouri Core 42 college credit, an associate degree, or a career certification.

ENROLLMENT IN EAST MIDDLE SCHOOL’S 8TH GRADE PROGRAM

Students living within Hazelwood East Middle School’s attendance area will automatically attend East Middle School, following the District’s normal enrollment and registration process.

Students living within one of the Hazelwood School District’s other middle school attendance areas have the option of attending East Middle School by completing and submitting an application. Enrollment at East Middle School for these students is limited to 100 students or as space allows, and applications will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. A copy of the application can be found at the back of this program or at www.hazelwoodschools.org/eastmiddleapp . Once a student is accepted into East Middle School’s 8th Grade Program, he/she will be considered an East Middle School student and will be expected to remain at East Middle School and continue into East High School. However, should a student wish to return to his/her home school, they can do so, but only at the end of the academic year (after second semester ends and school is out for summer of any particular year). Students wishing to return to their
