P restidigitation: noun meaning nimbleness or quickness of hand; the performance of or skill in

magic or tricks (Wikipedia and Wiktion-ary). David Copperfield and Penn and Teller are modern day magicians who fas-cinate us with prestidigitation, or sleight of hand. They show us that the hand is defi-nitely quicker than the eye. Our club, now ten years old and preparing for our ninth annual show, has been proficient in its own style of prestidigitation—its own magic. Our magic lies in our membership. We have created a club that combines comradery, entertainment, and commu-nity service. We have attracted and main-tained an amazing group of people who find myriad ways to have fun and care for one another and the communities within which we live. This social atmosphere, I believe, is what makes us special. The cars brought us together and the people keep us coming back. These same people, particularly the core that comes with amazing regular-ity, have created an annual show that is nothing short of magical. Our show is well run and so much fun that, by now, it must seem nearly effortless. Ay, there’s the rub! Therein lies the sleight of hand. This core group has been working together so long that this deceptive ease hides the

real hard work that is the foundation for our remarkable presentation in July. The show committee’s quick and nimble hands defi-nitely bring magic to our summer and pro-vide a profitable event that allows us to pass the magic on to our beneficiary—most cur-rently the Ronald McDonald House Chari-ties® of Oregon and Southwest Washington. Are you part of this amazing group already? Or would you like to be? If we want to keep the tricks lively, we need to pull in more nimble fingers. The more hands we have doing the work the easier it is for all. We need you now and in July. I beseech you to find a way to help a little or a lot. Every effort adds to the whole. I am so grateful to have been part of this magical club from its inception. I am grateful for the friendships that have devel-oped, the fun we’ve had together, the chal-lenges we’ve faced, and the service we’ve performed. It appears that it is now my op-portunity to take a turn at the helm. Our pre-vious presidents have left big shoes to fill. While I may not be able to fill those shoes in the same way, I hope that I can walk a path that will honor the work of those who pre-cede me. May we continue to be blessed with nimble fingers that keep the magic alive. Your New Prez,

Marina Anderson P.S. Contact me anytime at 503.263.4001 or [email protected].

So here’s an idea…. We all have so much going on but don’t always have the chance to share our news. I thought it might be fun to have a place to share news, announcements and questions… about our cars, our families or whatever.

If you have something you want to submit for the next newsletter, please email [email protected] by the first of each month. I’ll compile a column and get to Debbie before the newsletter comes out. Let’s have fun and share! I’ll get us started….

NEWS CECCO has 114 current members. Member numbers are now up to 387. There are only 18 of the original 50 char-ter members left in the current roster.

ANNOUNCEMENTS Lee and Marina Anderson are expecting their SECOND GREAT grandchild in May. They’re looking pretty good considering, eh?

QUESTIONS How old is the Chevelle and El Camino Club of Oregon? Here’s the short version….Lee and Gene sent out the first let-ter of invitation to about 50 people (from the ACES register) in 2001 that resulted in the first gathering in Wilsonville, where the first show and shine was scheduled. That show and shine was held at Champoeg Park on July 4th and was attended by Tim Taylor, Lee Anderson, Gene Bolante, Michael May, Al Robinson, Jeff Gray, Sean Walton (I think), and Fred Trient. (I

hope I didn’t forget anyone!) Our first official excursion was to the Yesterday’s show that August where we took club participation with 30-ish cars!! We began having meetings at local restaurants and planned our first show in 2002, also held at Champoeg Park. Our 9th annual show is now in the works!! Wahoo!! What a ride.

January 31, 2010 CECCO BUSINESS MEETING The meeting was called to order at 2:00pm by Gene Bolante. Gene gave a big thank you to Debbie Jepsen and Steve Fowles for hosting the January meeting. Russ Pishion made a motion, with a 2nd from Melody Saxe that the club accept the Officer’s Ballot as presented. A vote was taken and the measure passed. Good luck to Marina as our FIRST female president, Jan Vandervort as Vice-President, Cinnamen Christman as Treasurer,Secretary Mike Hannafin,Historian Tim Branson,Newsletter Editor Debbie Johnson, Show Chairman Laren Srb, Apparel Cinnamen Christman and Activities Director Bob Dutro. Cinnamen Christman gave the Treasurer’s report for Michelle Coffey. There is $1608.88 in our regular checking and $3745.37 in our savings. Our Newsletter Editor, Debbie Johnson, ONCE AGAIN, needs cover cars for the newsletter. Activities Director, Bob Dutro, reminded everyone the SUBURBAN show is back in action. This is the 1st car show of the season where we try to get as many of our members to sign up. They have added a new class, CHEVELLE 1964/1972, now you have a good reason for participating. No other show has the amount and quality of raffle prizes. BE THERE OR BE SQUARE ! More later as to where we will all meet up prior to the show, so we can all park together.

GENERAL DISCUSSION

Dan DeYoung would like as many members as possible to take a cruise down to CRATER LAKE in August or September. Keep this in mind when figuring out your schedule for the summer. The club has received a letter from the Camaro Club to put on a joint show. Marina will call and get some details as to where and when. Bob Dutro will check and see if FAST SPECIALITIES (our newsletter sponsor) would like to host the APRIL MEETING.

(THE FOLLOWING WILL BE IN ALL CAPS CAUSE I CAN’T FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET OUT OF IT)

SHOW DIRECTOR LAREN SRB HELD A MEETING A FEW WEEKS AGO. HE IS TRYING TO NARROW DOWN THE SHOW SO WE DON’T KEEP BURNING OUT THE SAME PEOPLE WHO STEP UP TO THE PLATE. ARE MEMBERS WILLING TO WORK TO KEEP THE SATURDAY ACTIVITIES AND, IF SO, CAN WE KEEP IT DOWN TO A MINIMUM. BETTY SRB IS OK AS SHE HAS HER SAME WORK CREW. THE FRONT GATE, APPAREL AND RAFFLE ARE ALL DAY AND WE NEED TO INVOLVE MORE MEMBERS. JAY ASHCRAFT SAID HE DOES NOT ENJOY WORKING FROM SUNUP TO SUNDOWN. THE CLUB WAS FUN WAY

BACK IN THE BEGINNING. RUSS STROHMEYER SAID HE HEARS THE SAME COMPLAINTS FROM EVERY OTHER CLUB HE IS IN CONTACT WITH. LAREN WOULD LIKE THE NEW POSTER TO BE APPROVED NOW, AS THE FLYERS NEED TO GET TO THE PRINTER. WE DECIDED THAT THE WET T-SHIRT, SLOW DRAGS AND THE BENCH RACING NEED TO STAY ON SATURDAY. LAREN WOULD LIKE TO GO BACK TO $20 PER CAR. DAVE VANDERVORT ASKED IF PRE-REGISTRATION DID ANY GOOD. LEE ANDERSON SAID THE DIFFERENCE IS THE PRE-REG GET A LAMINATED SHOW CAR FOR THEIR DASH VERSUS A HAND PRINTED DASH CARD. BY BEING INVOLVED WITH ACES, THAT IS OUR ONLY WAY TO GET OUR CLUB OUT NA-TIONALLY. MARINA SAID ALL OF THE GOODIE BAGS, ETC CAN GET PUT TOGETHER STARTING AT 8AM SATURDAY. RUSS PISHION SAID THE PRE-REG’S WERE COMMITTED TO OUR SHOW. DEBBIE JOHNSON ASKED IF ALL THAT STUFF (GOODIE BAGS) WAS NECESSARY AND RUSS STROHMEYER SAID OUR CAR OWNERS EXPECTED IT. TIM BRANSON SAID THE COMMITTEE HEADS NEEDED TO STEP UP TO GET THEIR OWN WORKERS FOR THEIR CREW.

Life is too short, Break the rules, forgive quickly,

Kiss slowly, love truly, Laugh uncontrollably,

And never regret anything That made you smile.

Life may not be the party We hoped for,

But while we’re here, We should dance...

Dear Jan, Thanks so much to you and your fellow members for donating the canned food and assorted “goodies” for our families here at Ronald McDonald house East. Many of our families are far from home and the holidays loom as lonely times. But your “goodies” brought them some holiday cheer!! Ronald McDonald Staff and Families
