This study analyzed all costs associated with operating the cooperative, from power supply costs to line repair and replacement. At its June meeting, the UDWI board of directors voted to approve the cooperative’s first rate reduction in more than 25 years. The rate decrease is the direct result of the $1.5 million in operating cost reductions that the management team has achieved over the last six months. Every dollar we have saved in expenses is flowing directly back to our members via this rate reduction and is proof that the cooperative is now being run like a business for the sole benefit of the members. As part of the new rate structure, UDWI is eliminating the seasonal differential in the energy charges. Members will now pay the same set kilowatt rate every month of the year. This change will help lower members’ bills during the highest use periods of the summer and winter. Members will also see a savings of $2 on the monthly facility charge portion of their bill. This charge helps provide the basic infrastructure and systems required to provide electric service. The new fixed reduction will be applied to all residential members’ bills and is not affected by how much or how little electricity they use. The cooperative has many ongoing initiatives that will continue to strengthen the organization including long-term financial planning, new rate and financial policies, and on-going cost management efforts. Meter testingUDWI meter technicians will be performing routine meter tests in our entire service territory over the next few years. Each employee will be driving white utility vans with our logo placard. Be sure to identify these items before approaching any vehicle that may be in your area. Confirm that all affected utilities have responded to your request by comparing the marks to the list of utilities the 8-1-1 call center notified.

Call 8-1-1 or make a request online two to three days before your work begins. The operator will notify the utilities affected by your project.

2-3Wait two to three days for affected utilities to respond to your request. They will send a locator to mark any underground utility lines.

Respect the markers provided by the affected utilities. The markers are your guide for the duration of your project.

If you can’t avoid digging near the markers (within 18-24 inches on all sides, depending on state laws), consider moving your project location.
