Late Paper
Next week I have to go to Cranbrook hos-pital for a procedure. Mom had colon can-cer so I should get the occasional colono-scopy. I also have a training session the next day. That means The Valley Peak will be deliv-ered a day or two late. Sorry about that.
Hoodoo Ladies’ Night
The Hoodoo Lounge and Grill just south of Fairmont is hosting a Ladies’ Night this Friday, May 12. There will be a wine bar, appies, live music with Valley Forged and some nice local vendors. It will be a won-derful evening. They are also hosting a Mother’s Day din-ner. It is a very nice place to take your mom. She will enjoy it. Call 250-345-2166 to find out more.
Whatever
What is worse, ignorance or apathy? Who knows and who cares?
Live Comedy
The Horsethief Pub & Eatery is hosting YukYuks Live this Saturday, May 13 at 9 pm. Comedians Lisa Baker and Scoot
Laird will have you happy and laughing in no time. Forget about all your troubles for an evening and just go out and have a good time and a laugh. Enjoy a great meal (all their food is awe-some), a beverage and a fun evening. Tickets are $15 in advance and $18 at the door.
UFC Spectacular
Copper City Saloon at the Best Western Invermere Inn is hosting an evening of UFC this Saturday, May 13 at 8 pm. Enjoy watching two title fights, Miocic vs Dos Santos and Jedrzejczyk vs Andrade. As always it will be a great night with a huge screen plus food and drink specials. Stay later on with tunes from DJ XXII to follow the fight event.
Moms Golf Free
This Sunday, May 14, take your mom out to Coys Par 3 golf course. They have a great special as moms golf free with pur-chase of a breakfast buffet or a burger. It is a fantastic chance to try some great food and have fun on a nice little golf course. Your Mom will really enjoy it and so will you.

Mother’s Day is this Sunday, May 14. It is a great day to really acknowledge Mom. My mother is incredible. She has taught me what is right and what is wrong (I may not always follow her advice) and has al-ways been there for me. She loves me. I am in my mid-fifties and she will still make sure I have a stocking at Christmas and a bit of chocolate at Easter. She al-ways reminds me to wear a coat in cool weather and to drive safely. She loves me. I love how she prepares all my favourite meals when I am visiting. She knows what I love. And she is concerned about my health. She knows that I love sweet things but that I am trying to avoid diabetes so she watches for suitable foods for me. She loves me. I will not get to see Mom or even speak with her this Mother’s Day as she is on a cruise to Alaska with my brother and sister. I feel bad about that. If you have a chance to do something for your Mom at anytime, get your butt in gear and do it. Our moms have done a lot for us.

I have just been accused of being a plagia-rist. Those are their words, not mine.
Understanding Your Dreams
There is a great workshop about dream understanding this Wednesday, May 10. It is a spiritual workshop with Crisanna McLeod at the College of the Rockies 6-9 pm that evening. “Honouring and understanding our dreams enhances our devotional practices and personal spirituality”. Chrisanna has a for-mula that has proven successful for many years. Share it with others, including kids. Call 250-342-3210 to register.
Canal Flats Days
Saturday, June 3 is a busy day in Canal Flats. It is their day of celebrating the com-munity. There is a pancake breakfast, a parade, ball and bean bag tournaments, horse shoes, beer garden, live music, kids’ games and activities, raffles, a concession, the logging show and more. A classic car rally is also happening this year. Add a spaghetti and meatball dinner, an evening in the park and fireworks at 11 pm for an awesome Saturday. Keep the day clear on your calendar.

Watson’s
Waddle
What a great few days I have had. Rob and I joined his buddies on a 5 day camping and fishing adventure back in the mountains. It was an incredible experience for a good old hound dog like myself. We camped at a beautiful lake with lots of squirrels for me to chase. I met a few other dogs and Rob’s buddies were super nice. I love relaxation. We stayed in a nice trailer plus Rob had an amazing bed for me on the fishing boat. We saw some sun, some rain and lots of wind but I was very well-sheltered. It was incredible. Lying on a boat requires a lot of energy so I was pretty tuckered every night. I loved the way the guys would give me priority all weekend. Good food, lots of rubs, some exercise, major comfort and more. All I had to do was look them in the eye once in a while. Easy peasy for me. Love your pets folks and treat them right. It pays off with lots of love.
What Year Was It?
Antonio Banderas was born, the Summer Olympics were in Rome, where Cassius Clay won the gold for boxing (he also won his 1st pro fight that year), and The Flin-stones and Coronation Street premiered. The Berlin Wall was built, Joanne Wood-ward became the first star on the ‘Walk of Fame’ and smoking was linked to heart disease. What year was it? See page 9.
Tuppersocks
I am not sure how it happens but I believe that every sock that disappears in the dryer reappears as a storage container lid in the cupboard.

The Thrifty Reporter
A couple of weeks ago I expressed thanks to people who donate their “no longer needed” items to the Invermere Thrift Store. The week before, the thanks went to the volunteers who stock and run the store. This week I would like to express many thanks to all the visitors that come to spend time in our beautiful valley and for shopping in our lovely store. The store is open for 65+ senior shoppers the first Wednesday of each month 2-4 pm and regular hours are Thursday-Saturday 10 am-4 pm. The volunteers look forward to your visit.

I have always had a problem with ants at my house. The huge ‘carpenter’ ants that love to do some damage. I usually buy a few ant traps but they have never been effective. Last year I decided to give Invermere Pest Control a shot at it. More than a year later I still have no ants. I am very impressed. They will be definitely stopping in at my new place (I’m moving). Rotary Garage Sale
The Rotary Club of Invermere is hosting their annual 2-day, 2-location garage sale during the May long weekend. Next Friday, May 19 from noon to 5 pm it will be at Deck Storage (Unit 56) in Athalmer. Then on Saturday, May 20, from 8 am to 12:30 pm they will be located beside the Invermere Courthouse. This is a huge garage sale with an incredi-ble amount of stuff. I go every year just to check it out and always end up taking something away from it. Stop in and do some shopping while supporting the Ro-tary Club. See you there.
It’s All Connected
It is crazy how our body works. Everything is so connected and related to each other. Of course the organs and systems all inter-act but there is so much more. Our hearts and our brains can have very serious effects on our bodies. When we are sad or stressed, it can take a huge toll on our bodies. We lose our appetites and our energy as our brains wrestle us to the ground. Take care of your happiness and that will help with your health.

Classically Entertaining
The classical trio, ‘La Cafamore’ will be performing a very entertaining concert on Saturday, May 20, 7:30 pm at Christ Church Trinity. The show will be based on classical com-posers ‘Guys named Franz’ featuring the works of Schubert, Haydn and Liszt. Angela Snyder (violin), Alexis More (viola) and Carolyn Cameron (piano) shall fill the room and our hearts with an incredible musical adventure. I attended their show last year and it was an extraordinary ex-perience. Tickets are only $15 ($12 for seniors and students, free for under 12 years) at ‘Avenue’ downtown or at the door.
It Was That Year
(From page 4) In 1960, a house was worth $12,700 and a car was $2,600. Aluminum cans, birth control pills and answering ma-chines were used for the first time and the Dallas Cowboys joined the NFL.
Champion
I am no expert on biking but to me it seems like you have a good chance of winning the Tour de France if you show up in a yellow shirt.
Fairmont Garage Sale
The Fairmont and District Lions Club are holding a garage/yard sale next Saturday, May 20 from 9 am to 4 pm at the Fairmont Community Lions Den. Last year’s event went great and lots of folks found some wonderful items so they decided to do a repeat this year. They are accepting donations of your slightly used treasures. They can pick anything up. Give the Lions a call at 250-341-7150.
Invermere Legion
This Friday, May 12 the Invermere Legion is having roast beef for the meal. It will come with side dishes, dessert and coffee or tea for only $17.50. That is a great deal for an all inclusive dinner. Win a prize draw while you are there.
Fifty Shades of Darker
Hey ladies, check out Shakmans Bar & Lounge next Sunday, May 21 as they pre-sent ‘Playboyz, Fifty Shades of Darker’ live for your enjoyment. It is part of the ‘Magic Mike’ tours. These gentlemen love to dance and entertain the girls. www.magicmikeplayboyz.eventbrite.ca.

Where I Was
The photo on page 6 shows a wonderful group of volunteers. It was Easter Satur-day and they hid Easter eggs all around the Kinsmen Beach area for the hunt. More than 200 children benefitted from their efforts. Thanks folks.
Cats & Dogs
What’s the difference? Dogs have masters while cats have staff.
Tips from the Pro
What do I do from a fairway sand trap? The pros on TV make hitting from fairway traps look so easy, and it can be if you follow these steps. You must assess the lip in front, always take one more lofted club than you think to get the ball high enough to clear the lip. Do not over do it on digging your feet in, just push down with the inside of your feet for stability. Finally, make sure the ball is slightly farther back in your stance so you make contact with the ball first and pick it clean out of the trap. Jeremy Johnson, FHSR Learning Centre
Mowing the Lawn
It is that time of year. I really love to see a freshly mowed lawn out there. It looks pretty nice. But I have a tough time bring-ing myself to spend the time doing it. I have a huge lawn and a small mower so it is quite the job. I have too many other things that I prefer to do. When I do the job, the lawn looks great…for about 12 hours. Then it starts down the unkempt trail. By the next day it looks okay but in two days it is awful again. I just watched the District of Invermere guy mowing the area along the road across the street. He has this awesome big riding mower. I really wanted to run over and beg him to do my yard. I wish. I just have to look at it as good exercise. The good looking lawn is not that important to me but burning a few calories certainly is. Save some dandelions for the bees.

Laying Sod
It is the time of year to get that fresh sod laid down for your lawn. RONA has the sod for you. They are carrying Manderly Turf Products including their new Premium Sod. It is Canada’s first qualified drought toler-ant sod. It uses less water, saving time money and of course, water. Get your or-der in today at 250-342-6226.
Rustic Hardware
Tex at High Country Antiques & Collect-ables has brought in a wonderful assort-ment of rustic and funky hardware. This includes all kinds of knobs, hinges and handles as well as door knockers and more cool stuff. He is also designing and building rustic birdhouses. They are very cute and the birds love them. High Country Antiques is a wonderful place to visit. There are a lot of great items in stock, many of which I haven’t seen since my youth. You have to check it out. High Country is located downstairs in the Bavin Glass/Kootenay Coffee Works build-ing up near Canadian Tire.
Timeless
I spend way too much sitting and wonder-ing, “Where has all the time gone?”
Feathered Friends
I am not an official ‘birder’ but I do love watching birds. Yesterday I watched a Great Blue Heron down at Dorothy Lake. There were several other waterfowl around doing their thing. As I write this there is a Pileated Wood-pecker hanging on the suet cage in front of my window. He is hanging kind of upside down so all the suet that falls out lands on his belly. Every few seconds he will just eat off his belly. It is something to see.
Money-Saving Insulation
Purchasing a hot tub can be very over-whelming as every manufacturer will say theirs is built best. Valley Spas is proud to carry the #1 selling brand in Canada, the one and only ARCTIC SPA, built in Can-ada....engineered for the worlds harshest climates. What makes Arctic’s unique method of construction a huge benefit is that they insulate the exterior walls, floors and top of the spa, trapping in all the ambient heat from the pumps...thus the heater kicks in
less, saving you money. With insulating in this manner, easy access to repairs is also obtained. Stop by the Valley Spas showroom or visit their website for a demonstration.
Depression
What is one of the easiest ways to improve your mood? Just get up and do something. Statistics are showing that technology is a huge contributor to depression. Television is the worst. It is designed to make you feel bad about yourself to help sell the products on the commercials. The ‘unreal’ reality shows where everyone is rich and beautiful. The talk shows that tell how our spouse ‘should’ be acting. The news that is full of violence and destruc-tion. At least watch a comedy show that makes you laugh. We are much better off to just go outside and sit in a chair and relax and watch the world around us.
