PREVENT SICKNESS

One thing that can put a huge damper on a great vacation is falling sick on your holidays. How manytimes has it has happened to us when we came back from a vacation with cold virus or upset stomach?it is really very easy to catch germs while travelling as you are exposed in so many ways, fromtravelling in the airplanes, to consuming contaminated food and water or coming in contact withunhygienic conditions. We all know to always drink bottled water and not take cold drinks from thefountains. Also ingesting RAW FOODS AND STREET FOODS should be big NO-NO. Although it mightbe very tempting sometimes to try local delicacies but cleanliness should be a priority. Having a handsanitizer really helps especially in case of unavailability of soap and water.

1. I will never forget the time when my niece took a piece of dessert in one of our trips to Turkeyand immediately her face puffed up like a balloon and we ended up in the emergency room, itwas down right scary. FOOD ALERGIES is another big culprit in ruining our good times. It isalways better to ask about the ingredients of any new and unfamiliar foods you try on your trip.

2. If you are planning to travel out of the country, to minimize your risk of getting seriously ill it isimportant to get proper immunization recommended for that country. It is best to get thesevaccinations 4-6 weeks before your international travel. U.S. Governments CDC (CENTERSFOR DISEASES CONTROL AND PREVENTIONS) are a good resource for finding out whatvaccinations would be needed for your particular destination. Make an appointment with yourdoctor who can recommend the vaccinations needed on individual basis to the you are planningto visit.

3. Don’t forget to pack your prescription drugs and some basic medicines for minor ailments andallergies.

AVOID ACCIDENTS

Accidents, unfortunately during vacations is very big reality which can range from being small enoughto cause a lot of nuisance and inconvenience to being potentially life threatening. In any case full

attention has to be paid to avoid them at any cost because no risk is worth the trouble it can cause andspoil a perfectly good holiday. Taking simple precautions when we travel can help to avert big mishaps.

1. It is a good idea to familiarize yourself with driving and traffic rules of the places you plan to visit.

2. Never ride on overcrowded public transport vehicles.

3. DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE.

4. DO NOT take unnecessary risks with activities you are not comfortable with or try to learn themfrom unauthorized locals.

5. ALWAYS CARRY A PORTABLE FIRST AID KIT FOR EMERGENCIES.

BEWARE OF THEFT

It was in New York, at the airport that my dad was sitting with a friend, waiting for their flight back homeafter a great trip, his bag was stolen right under their noses. It had his passport and some cash and Ialways remember this story, the kind of headache and stress it caused them!!

Nothing can ruin your trip more than having your possessions stolen while you travel. Now a days it isnot enough to only take proper care of your belongings, always keep an eye on your luggage and neverleave it unattended. Make copies of your important documents and credit cards. Do not to keep toomuch cash in one place. The traditional warnings such as not to wear too much jewelry or act liketourists with expensive camera hanging around your neck and walking around with maps in your handsto attract undue attention still holds true. But in this day and age of WIFI, smart phones and computerswhich undoubtedly have changed the ways we used to travel and made life much easier andconvenient, it also provides new challenges in terms of how to protect ourselves from IDENTITYTHEFT….

1. Avoid using public computers as much as possible as they are hotbeds for identity theft. If youmust use, never save your important passwords or bank account information when you aredone.

2. Always use secure WIFI networks such as WEP,WPA or WP2 which require a password to logon.

3. Use the ATM machines carefully, try to stick to the bank branches during banking hours. It isalso advisable not to go alone to ATM machines, take some one with you who can stand behindand watch over you.

4. Keep your phones locked as we have enormous amount of data stored in our smart phones aswell as a lot of personal information. Secure your phone with a password and remember tochange your PIN frequently.

5. Lock up your important documents like passports etc in your Hotel lockers if possible, its safer toleave them there than carrying them around while sightseeing.
