Last Thursday, the U.S Senate Committee on Foreign Relations'hearing on Keystone XL and the National Interest Determinationincluded a panel of witnesses who spoke for and against Keystone.Dr. James Hansen presented evidence that brings him to conclude:

Science has exposed the fact that we cannot burn all fossil fuelswithout enormous growing costs that would be borne most heavily by

young people. ... There is no scientific debate about the fact that wecannot burn all of the fossil fuels without unacceptable destruction oflife and property. That means we must phase out coal emissions and leavemost of the unconventional fossil fuels, including tar sands, in the ground.
