PREPARATIONSeal the entire house pieces with Multi-Purpose Sealer; using the glaze wash brush. Lightly sand, then wipe off with a lint-free cloth.

PAINTING INSTRUCTIONSHousesBASECOATBasecoat the entire houses with Lamp Black; achieve an opaque coverage, using the glaze wash brush. Then basecoat the entire roof trim pieces with a Metallic Silver mixture (Slate Grey + Metallic Silver 1:1 mixture). Now re-basecoat the roof pieces with Metallic Silver to achieve an opaque coverage.

CRACKLE EFFECTFollowing the label on the Weathered Wood bottle, apply to the house surfaces. Use the following colors for the top coats; Violet Haze mixture (Snow White + shot of Grape Juice) Warm White, and Blue Mist. Allow to dry and the crackle eff ect to complete, then repeat steps on the backsides.

EDGESBasecoat edges with the appropriate colors using the 12 Shader.

ROOFFollowing the same steps on the roof trim pieces using Lamp Black as the top coat.

When dry, lightly mist the surfaces of the three houses with the matte spray.

MoonsTransfer the circle for the moons to the surfaces or use the bottom of an acrylic bottle to trace around. Basecoat the moons with Camel using the 8 Filbert. Now corner load the angle with Spiced Pumpkin + Saf-fron Yellow, brush blend on your palette, fl oat a wide tint along the left sides of each moon. Mop if necessary. Then corner load the angle with Camel + Warm White, brush blend on your palette, fl oat a highlight along the top right corner of each moon; mop if necessary. When dry, transfer the remaining designs to the appropri-ate surfaces. Use the graph ruler to aid in the transfer of any straight lines, by dragging the stylus along the ruler’s edge.

Background PinesWith a pencil and graph ruler, transfer the center line for each pine. Work only on a couple of pines at a time. Slightly pre-dampen the surface area with clean water. This will help the paint bleed and will soften the boughs.

Now use the 8 Filbert loaded with the Plantation Pine across the chisel edge. Up on the chisel edge, slightly pull the top of the pine. Tapping from left to right for the boughs, slowly and slightly widening as you work towards the base of the pine. Allow a bit of the background to show through so the pine doesn’t look like a triangle. When dry, randomly repeat tapping the Plantation Pine over the boughs to deepen a few areas. Repeat the same steps with the remaining pines. Now repeat this process of randomly tapping over the boughs using Hauser Medium Green for highlights.

Background ShrubsWith the sm Texture brush and Plantation Pine, dance in the shrubs behind the structure settings. Repeat the step. Then with Hauser Medium Green, randomly dance over the top of the shrubs for highlights.

For the proper use of the Texture Brush, use the follow-ing method: Dampen the bristles with water to start the separation of bristles. Tap bristles into the paint on your palette, hold it perpendicular to your palette, pounce it up and down to get some of the paint off —keeping the paint sparse on the brush. Note that this brush can be used on the whole foot or just the toe.

Tap lightly on the surface, dance with the brush up and down, rolling the brush in diff erent directions in between your fi ngers when it is up in the air (like dancing the twist, light on your feet). Allow some drying time in be-tween dances so the paint sets up and you don’t end up with a globby or muddy look.

Crop Land AreasBasecoat the two crop land areas with Khaki Tan using the 8 Shader. Next, pre-dampen the land areas with clean water, load the sm Texture brush with Espresso, lightly dance in the crop rows. Now corner load the angle with Espresso, fl oat a shade across the top of the land areas.

Foreground Green Land AreasBasecoat the green land areas with Hauser Medium Green using the 8 Shader. Then corner load the angle with Plantation Pine, fl oat shading across the bottom edge of the land areas.

Sand Land AreaDouble load the 8 Shader with Khaki Tan + Warm White, in a slip-slap motion basecoat the land area under the lighthouse. Next, corner load the angle with Espresso and randomly chisel fl oat* over the land area.

*chisel fl oat by corner loading the angle, blend off on your palette, lay the bristles of the brush fl at on the sur-face, chisel edge up. Push the paint on the bristles front left to right in a scratching motion, allowing the bristles to pull a broken line that is slightly fl oated.

Basecoating Structures• Warm White—silo, lighthouse tower and structure,

lens• Heritage Brick + Cadmium Red 1:1 mixture—barn #1• Raw Sienna—structure #3• Slate Grey—structure #2• Payne’s Grey—roofs

Detailing StructuresFor shading, wash over the appropriate side walls with Payne’s Grey using the 6 Shader:• Structure #1—left wall and right side building• Structure #2—left wall left building• Structure #3—right wall of the right building• Lighthouse Setting—left wall of side structure

Corner load the angle with Payne’s Grey, fl oat shading across the top of the opposite walls, down the left side of the silo, lens and lighthouse tower. Now, with the 5/0 Liner and Payne’s Grey, pull the side roof lines, silo ledge and chimneys. Then the lens room panes, dip dot at the top of the lens room for the ventilator ball and a line up from the ball for the lightning rod. Now pull the windows and doors with Payne’s Grey using the size 2 Shader.

Slate Grey + Lamp Black and pull the posts and supports.

• Brown Fence—double load the 2 Shader with Raw Sienna + Espresso and pull the posts and supports.

• Birds—Pull the birds on the grey fence posts with the 5/0 Liner and Lamp Black. Then place a Warm White dip dot for an eye on each bird.

at the top of each pumpkin. Now pull the features on a couple of pumpkins with the 5/0 Liner and Lamp Black.

GhostsFirst, transfer the lines for the ghosts. Next, basecoat the ghosts with Warm White using the 4 Shader. Then corner load the angle with Payne’s Grey and lightly fl oat shading along the outer edge of each ghost. Now use the 5/0 Liner and Payne’s Grey to pull the features on the ghosts’ faces.

Ground FoliageDance ground foliage under the structures, fence posts, pumpkins, etc. with the sm Texture brush and Planta-tion Pine. Refer to photo for placements.

Bat StencilingPosition the Bat stencil on the surface. Refer to photo for placement. When positioned, secure the stencil with the Frog Tape, stencil adhesive or simply hold with your fi ngers.

Load the small stencil brush with a bit of Lamp Black, swirl the brush on a blue shop towel to remove excess. Apply color in a circular motion one direction and then in a circular motion in the other direction (changing

directions frequently) over the stencil. Try to fi ll in some of the design fully and leave other areas incomplete When completed, this application should have a slight distressed appearance.

Carefully remove stencil by holding one end with your fi ngers and lifting the opposite end. Clean stencil and brush immediately using the DecoMagic Brush Cleaner.

Cob Web StencilingUse the medium stencil brush and Bleached Sand with the Cob Web stencil. Refer to photo for placement.

FINISHINGTo protect your painted piece, varnish the entire orna-ments with the Dura Clear Matte Varnish using the Oval Wash Combo brush. This brush doesn’t leave any brushstroke marks after the varnish has dried.

Glue the roof trim pieces to the houses With the 3-in-1 Advanced Craft glue.
