Retired teacher Tom Ackerman made a personal goal tohike the Lower Peninsula portion of the North CountryTrail. After 37 days and 600 miles, Ackerman made it

to the Mackinac Bridge, proud of his accomplishment.Ackerman, who now lives in Middleville, used to runmarathons, so he’s well aware of the physical demands of sucha lengthy commitment. Along his journey, Ackerman marveledat Michigan’s natural beauty, from the flat farmlands in thesouth to the hilly forested areas in the north.
