TOWN AND COUNTRY PLANNING GENERAL DEVELOPMENT ORDER 1988
THE HASTINGS BOROUGH COUNCIL
ARTICLE 4 DIRECTION (NO. 3) 1993
WHEREAS Hastings Borough Council of the Town Hall, Queens Road, Hastings in the
County of East Sussex (hereinafter referred to as "the Council") being the local Planning
Authority for the Borough of Hastings are satisfied that it is expedient that development of
the descriptions set out in the First Schedule hereto should not be carried out on any part of
the land described in the Second Schedule hereto and shown edged red on the plan annexed
hereto (hereinafter referred to as "the said land") unless permission therefore is granted on
application made to them.
NOW THEREFORE the Council in pursuance of the powers conferred upon them by
Article 4 of the Town and Country Planning General Development Order 1988 as amended
HEREBY DIRECT that the permission granted by Article 3 of the said Order shall not
apply to development on the said land or any part thereof of any of the descriptions set out
in the First Schedule hereto.
THIS DIRECTION may be cited as the Hastings Borough Council Article 4 Direction (No.
3) 1993.

ARTICLE 4 DIRECTIONS
The following is an outline guide only. For full details reference must be made to The Town & Country Planning (General Permitted Development) Order 1995 as amended. Statutory Instrument No. 418, 1995.
Part 1
aCLASS A The enlargement, improvement or other alteration of dwellinghouse.
CLASS B The enlargement of a dwellinghouse consisting of an addition or alteration to the roof. r
CLASS C Any other alteration to the roof of a dwellinghouse.
CLASS D The erection or construction of a porch outside any external door of a dwellinghouse.
CLASS E The provision within the curtilage of the a dwellinghouse of any building or enclosure, swimming or other pool required for a purpose incidental to the enjoyment of the dwellinghouse as such, or the maintenance, improvement or other alteration of such a building or enclosure.
CLASS F The provision within the curtilage of a dwellinghouse of a hard surface for any purpose incidental to the enjoyment of the dwellinghouse as such.

CLASS A The erection, construction, maintenance, improvement or alteration of a gate, fence, wall or other means of enclosure.
CLASS B The formation, laying out and construction of a means of access to the highway which is not a trunk road or a classified road.
CLASS C The painting of the exterior of any building and work ("painting" includes any application of colour).
