The WINTER EditThere’s no better time to hone in on your layering and accessorizing skills that at the beginning

of Autumn. Our favourite third pieces we’ve eschewed during the sweltering months suddenly

have a purpose in the wardrobe again.I will focus on the fall pieces every girl needs, as the

need to swap the last of the breezy maxis, casual cutoffs and strappy sandals for more

weather-appropriate fare will be upon us.Snug tweed blazers. cozy fair-isle knits and luxe over

TWIRL #INSPIRATIONAs I’ve been trolling the fashion week street style pages, and ogling over all the beautiful trend pieces being worn by the who’s who and IT girls of the fashion scene - the one that stood out the most was the pleated skirt., in all lengths and colour.

DRIVERSThis item is transitional in a sense that it can be made in any fabric. From pleather, to sued to flow chiffons- it’s an item for all seasons really, it just happens to be owning Autumn!

ACTIONSIf this item did not work for us in the past, we should research whether the fabrication , length or colour isthe guilty party. The new length appears to fall mid calf, and colours are all things spicy , but also come in a variety of neutrals. This is definitely an item that we should offer our customer - even if just for presence.

DRIVERSBy styling within advertising, or mannequins correctly we are able to promote product even if the focus isn’t necessarily on the particular item. This is a transitional piece due to fabrication - in fact an all year round item.This could possibly serve as a core item that we update through cadence projections for the year throughsilhouette revision, colour and trend .

ACTIONSThis is a something to be invested in from a trend & basics perspective (talking parkas and lightweight trenchcoats here). Most local stores have these in stock throughout the year (urban/woolworths/mr price/truworths/cotton on)& even if it is not in our customers mind as an item they want - we need to change that by embracing an aspirational shoppers strategy. Customers may actually want an item but are unable to afford to shop at luxe markets such as cotton on or woolworths-but once we introduce the item at a great cost and with impeccable quality, we are opening new doors. And this applies to all items or categories.

FABRIC FEATURE #VELVETYear after year, velvet is frequently discussed as a key A/W trend, & following the

appearance of the fabric in Givenchy, Maison Martin Margiela & Alexander Wang’sA/W 15 collection, we are sure this season won’t be any different. More interestingly

there has been a recent surge in velvet in street style appearances- thereforemaking the trend more notable as a transitional story. Dark hues are prominent

here, seen on trousers & outerwear, most notable bomber shapes (NETWORK TO TEST1 & this is a vehicle for MASSUMI as well)

SEASONAL REBOOT #FANCYFOOTWORK Of course Winter is the season for the BOOT. However, the boot has evolved and

the customer is very certain of what the correct silhouette trends are and whatshe wants in her winter wardrobe. as boots are seen as an investment, we need

to reassure our consumer that we know what is the trend, & we will deliver it.The trick is what we invest in as the biggest callout for the season (all store) what is

the trend that is a little fashion forward but still commercially acceptabe(mid store) and then the cheekier styles we MUST HAVE (top store) Here is a

consolidated collage of whos calling out what, and what it is we need to get our hands.. or feet on for winter. Bearing in mind that trend is led by themes for the season

& also that we need to keep the end in mind and buy with apparel trend theme as a guideline for how to dress up our stories or categories wihin store.

COLOURSpice browns & earthy day tones arrive as updates to classic neutrals. Black remains a staplewith white being used only as an accent. Rich blues work well for more directional looks.SILHOUETTEFlat over the knee boots are the key shape for A/W 16/17. The luxe utility boot updates casual cold weather boots with sturdy leathers and gold trims. Ankle boots are renewed with a higher silhouette but also with the block heel. GRANNY BOOTThe granny lace up boot gains momentum as an important item for the season. The silhouette is ankle high with a pointed toe & loww skinny heel. Solid smooth leathers keep the boot casual whereas patent leathers & velvety suedes have a polished look. Colours are mainly dark & neutral .For a subtle statement, use muted animal prints.

VELVETVelvet is a top fabric choice for the season. This versatile fabric works perfectly on commercial shapes, ranging from flat ankle boots to high ankle booties. Over the knee boots become a high fashion item with the use of all-over-velvet. Use wooden heels & crepe solesto dress down this typically casual material.

SPICE BROWNSSpice browns are noticably strong on the AW 15/16 Catwalks & will be a perfect commercial choice for the AW 16/17 season. use colours rangingfrom cinnamon to nutmeg for a neutral update. Polished silhouettes are kept clean with minimal detailing & soft leathers. Contrast lacing & solesbreak up olour on utility boots.
