    Emergency Relief

    Hashoo Foundation began its reliefactivities during the catastrophicearthquake in 2005, providing relief to theearthquake affected victims through:

    Establishment of a basic health unit inTalhatta, Balakot; and

    Initiating the Spinal Cord Injury Project for

    Pakistan Earthquake Rehabilitation(SCIPPER)

    The basic health unit in Talhatta proved tobe extremely successful and in the modelwas replicated by inaugurating

    Project Name: A Safer Tomorrow DisasterPreparedness in Schools

    Project Brief

    The principle objective of the project is to promote a culture ofsafety and disaster resilience in Pakistan through enhancedawareness raising and capacities building in Disaster Preparednessin schools.

    20 schools in District Chitral have been selected, where project staff,

    volunteers and school teachers will be trained to further disseminateDisaster Risk Reduction (DRR) measures within the communities.

    An agreement has been signed with the Ministry of Education toinclude Disaster Risk Reduction in the school curriculum. The projectalso aims to make safe places and retrofit school structures along

    with promoting non-structural DRR within the communities.

    Project Brief

    The project goal is to increase the incomes of 6,000 micro-entrepreneurs inclusive of 120 FLEWs and 120 FVMCs (at least 80%of whom will be women) in the dairy sector by at least 50% in 30months.

    This will occur through improving their production capacity via

    better livestock management techniques, the establishment of linksto product and service input suppliers, and by assisting in thecreation of an efficient value chain for the marketing of dairyproducts.

    Project BriefThe project goal is to improve employment/self-employment

    opportunities for Afghan refugees, especially women, by extendingthe ongoing training in employable vocational skills applicable inPakistan and Afghanistan. Specific objectives are:

    Objective 1: To extend the existing skill training and income

    generation activities to the unskilled and unemployed Afghanrefugees, men and women living in Pakistan to permit them to takeadvantage of labor market or self employment opportunities andthereby increase their household income.

    Objective 2: To Identify and create job linkages in Afghanistan fornewly trained unemployed Afghan refugees.

    Project BriefThe Hashoo Foundation proposes to restore livelihoods of the flood

    affected women beekeepers of Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral throughprovision of equipment (bee hive boxes and production kits) trainingand honey value chain development, which will enable them torestart their lives through expansion of their enterprise.

    50 new women honeybee farmers would be enabled a capacity toproduce about 35 kgs of artisanal honey per year.
