HASAWA The Health and Safety at Work Act (HASAWA) is a law that was
introduced in 1974. It ais to !ro"ide all workers with !rotections
a#ainst ha$ard at work such as !ersonal !rotecti"e e%ui!ent and
any action that can reduce the risk. This law is !ro"ided to factories&
o'ces& hos!itals& trans!orts and other !reises. It co"ers the
e!loyees as well as the e!loyers. An e!loyee should as an
e!loyee the res!onsile for his safety are herself and the
e!loyers. So& the e!loyers should ake sure that the workers
already understood y !ro"idin# trainin#s. HASAWA cannot re!lace
the factorys act ut it #i"es !rotection to e!loyees to #et writin#
stateent of #eneral !olicy with res!ect to the health and safety
fro the e!loyers. There are se"eral laws which #rowin# u! durin#
*+ years. It #i"es ore !rotection to e!loyees and #et ore
ene,cial to the e!loyers.
In A!ril -++& the Health and Safety /0ecuti"e (HS/) was found in
order to adinister the HASAWA. It e!loys !ower and !enalties
ins!ector to enforce the act. The are * ain systes which is
de"elo!ed y HS/
1. I!ro"eent oticeIns!ectors will issue this notice to the e!loyees for
correctin# thin#s within a s!eci,ed tie-. 2rohiition notice
If the e!loyees cannot co!ly the i!ro"eent notice& theins!ector can issue !rohiition notice to force the e!loyee to
sto! the o!eration. The ins!ector can also issue iediate a
!rohiition notice if there is an iediate dan#er to workers.
The sco!e of these notices is to !rotect the e!loyee fro
"ery serious conse%uences of in3ury.*. ines and I!risonent
A ,ne will e #i"en to e"eryone who fails to co!ly with any
of these notices whish are sti!ulated y a a#istrate court&
e"en unliited ,ne or i!risonent will e #i"en if the
o5ences a ore serious. And also continuin# daily ,ne for
each day will e #i"en for an e!loyee who doesnt co!ly
with this notice.
As I ention earlier HASAWA ensures the Health and Safety
and #i"e ore ene,cial for the e!loyees. It says that the
e!loyers has res!onsiility to the e!loyees so do the e!loyees.
As an e!loyer esides !ro"idin# trainin#s to the e!loyees& they
ust ake sure that all of achinery and workin# area is safe.
To reduce a daa#in# e5ect of workin# without !rotection&HASAWA also says 6 ha$ards that can cause accident& diseases& and
