When making decisions, we often struggle with what voice to follow. We acknowledge the presence of God, the existence of the Trinity, the priority of
the Gospel, and the virtues and values they embody. Yet, even with all of that truth, knowledge, and tradition behind us, we think we know better.
When confronted with a decision, we easily dismiss what we know we ought and need to do and entertain responses that stem from lesser desires and
wants. We eventually may come around and realize that what God asks us to do is what we need to do, even if it wasn’t our original intention. God
accepts our return to Him with joy. What becomes dishonest is deceiving ourselves, God, and others by originally saying yes to what we know we need
(and are asked to do) and willfully doing something else. That is blatant hypocrisy.

Stewardship Presentations at Our Parishes
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Fa-
ther of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
-James 1:17
We begin a series of stewardship presentations in our parishes this
weekend. The goal is to keep you informed about the vitality and fiscal
health of your parish. I (Fr. Edward) will be giving these presentations
at the following masses:
September 26 & 27 , 5pm Seven Dolors, 8am & 10:30am Saint Bene-
dict
October 4, 7:30am Seven Dolors, 9:30am St. martin
October 11, 8:30am St. Anthony, 10:30am Seven Dolors
In this unusual year, I would like us all to consider what we need to do
to set the boat of our churches in the water with the sales lifted, so
that we catch the winds of the Holy Spirit blowing us to where we need
to be.
World Day of Migrants & Refugees
In his address Pope Francis said that, “When we know their stories, it is
easy to feel concern for the well-being for migrants and refugees.”
Their stories are each unique, but just as our ancestors once did, they
generally come in search of a better and safer life for their families. It
is often pointed out that immigrants who settle in the United States
make an important contribution to the U.S. economy. They fill neces-
sary position in many sectors. They are statistically less likely to com-
mit crimes, but more likely to suffer them. The current global health
and economic crisis has severely affected the lives of many who live
away from their own homes. Jesus’ blessing of those who “welcome
the stranger” as a Corporal Work of Mercy is as striking now as ever.
Psalms and Old Testament Study
Monday Mornings
I have rekindled my passion for Old Testament study during these unu-
sual six months. So, I am eager to share some fruit of that and to hear
your reflections. We will gather 8:15-9am (after the 7:30am mass) at
Seven Dolors and spread out in the gym. The study will take place
each Monday. There is no reason to worry if you can only come a few
times, or if you need to skip a session, because it will not be a system-
atic study. I will warmly welcome anyone who happens to come on a
particular Monday morning. I will choose the Psalm or Old Testament
reading from the ensuing Sunday and give a 15-20-minute explanation
of the text. How it relates to overall themes of the Old Testament, and
how it enlightens our understanding of Jesus Christ. After that explana-
tion we will have opportunity for individuals to share reflections or ask
questions. All are welcome, from any parish! Bring your bible!!
Scripture Quote for the Day
Your ways, O LORD, make known to me;
teach me your paths,
guide me in your truth and teach me,
for you are God my savior.

Faith Formation
We are well stocked on crafting supplies and paper this
year. But I would really like to stock up on Clorox wipes,
hand sanitizer, and tissues for each area we will be
using. Our classes will be in the church basement and
those areas are only used by faith formation and have
not been stocked with supplies over the pandemic. If
you are out and find some of these items and would be willing to
donate them that would be a great help.
Thank you in advance.
Reminder as we move into the year that if your child is not feeling well
on a Wednesday evening that they should stay home. They always have
the option to do the lesson on the web that week. We want to keep our
students and catechist healthy and safe this year.
Picking up material can be done during the hours of 9am to 4pm in the
Faith Formation office. If those hours do not work we can make other
arrangements for you to do so. Please contact Toni Hudock to make
those arrangements. Safe Environment videos are also up and ready
to be viewed by families that were unable to make it to kick off
night, https://hohcatholic.org/hohff/
