Chess The Chess team participated at the Northern Illinois Chess League tournament on January,12th at Huntley High School. Caleb Schulz won 2 matches against Sterling High School and another match over Kaneland High School. Jacob Chupich scored a win against Antioch High School and James Luethy won versus Sterling High School. Throughout the season, Will Harter, Pam Jirachotekamjorn, and Andrew Dudley were key members of the team.The Hornets look forward to building upon the momentum that they have established. www.cusd50.org | 815-943-6461 Harvard High School Athletic Department Newsletter Girls Basketball The Harvard High School girls varsity basketball team took third place at the Alden-Hebron basketball tournament on December 27th, 2018. The girls will host Senior Night next Thursday, January 24th, 2019 vs. Marengo. Please come out to support senior, Mariana Pichardo. After Senior Night, the girls will be on the road before going to the regionals on February 11th, 2019. Record 2-17 Wrestling The Harvard High School Varsity wrestling team competed in the Randy Conrad Invitational at Leyden High School on January 5th. Bryce Fiegel placed 2nd, Uriel Herrera placed 3rd, Nik Jimenez placed 3rd, and Chase Bischke placed 5th. On the same day the Harvard JV wrestling team traveled to Amboy with 9 wrestlers for a 14 team tournament. Brian Hernandez placed 3rd, Connor Flores placed 4th, Ivan Rosas placed 1st, Caden Scott placed 3rd, Damyan Michel placed 5th, and Eric Parra placed 2nd . The Hornets finished in 5th place. They are continuing to improve and looking forward to their next competition on Monday, January 28th. The First National Challenge raised a record breaking $21,714 to be split between Marengo and Harvard High Schools Booster Clubs. The money comes from sponsors, "Challenge" ticket sales , and the gate receipt from the "Challenge" football game. All money raised is used to support Harvard and Marengo Athletic and Activities. Thank you to all of our Sponsors, parents, athletes and communities for making the 2018 First National Challenge the most profitable in the history of the event.

CheerThe Harvard Hornet Cheer competitive team took 2nd in the Niles West invitational. They placed 4th at the KRC Conference on Wednesday, January, 16th at Johnsburg High School. They are looking forward to the last competition at Sectionals on January, 26th at Grayslake North!

Breezy Busse has played a key part in the huge expansion of the sideline cheer leading team this year. She has an outgoing personality that makes her an outstanding captain and role model for all 40 cheerleaders. She is the secondary base for the center stunt group for the competition team.

Boys BasketballThe Harvard High School varsity boys basketball team defeated Alden-Hebron 51-39 on December, 28th to take first place in the Alden-Hebron Christmas Tournament.

The Harvard High School sophomore team also took first place at the Alden-Hebron Boys Basketball Invitational on Saturday, January 5th, 2019.

Andrew Cooke leads the team in scoring, averaging 17 points per game in December. He scored 82 points at the Alden-Hebron Tournament.

On Monday, January 14 the Hornet Class of 2023 and their parents were invited to the Harvard High School Eighth Grade Expo. Highlights of the evening included: Learning about course offerings and other exciting opportunities like sports and

clubs; Meeting teachers, administrators, coaches and upper classmates.
