Curriculum Days Last week School Council approved our final two curriculum days for 2018. They will be held on Monday August 27- in the middle of term 3 and on Friday December 7. The purpose of letting you know early is to provide plenty of time for those who work to make arrangements for their children. As is always the case, a Curriculum Day program will be run by Camp Australia providing a minimum of twenty students enrol. Please therefore note these dates in your diary. ANZAC Service You will be well aware that tomorrow is ANZAC Day. To celebrate this in a meaningful way for our students, we held a special ANZAC service led by the students this morning. The students in the choir sang beautifully and the Year 6 students who organised and led the service did so very well. Thank you to each of the teachers and students who contributed to this important activity. To add further meaning to ANZAC Day home groups have been talking about ANZAC Day and we are hopeful that our students will take an interest in and understand the significance of ANZAC Day for all Australians. Some may even be lucky enough to attend the Dawn Service tomorrow morning. Principal-Parent Morning Tea- Years 4-6 Parents I will be holding a morning tea for parents of current Year 4-6 students on Friday May 4 starting at 9.00am in the staffroom. I expect that the morning tea will last for about 30 - 45 minutes. This will be a chance for me to talk to you and answer questions. All parents with students in Years 4-6 are welcome to attend so if you are interested, please note this date on your calendar. Parent Helpers’ Program This two session program for parents of students in P-2 being run by Lisa Banks and Liz Crain, will be held on Thursday 26 April at 2.30pm and then on Tuesday May 1st at 9.10am. Both sessions will be held in the Teacher Learning area upstairs above the main office. Participants only need to attend one of these sessions. Reminders

The notes, photocopied passports and initial

deposit for the China Exchange are due on

Thursday.

PE UPDATE YEAR 6 INTERSCHOOL SPORT Congratulations to our Year 6 Interschool Sport teams, as they played their final round of their Summer Sports last Thursday. Our results saw wins to both our boys’ and girls’ tee ball teams and tennis teams, our T20 Blast team (our second team did not have an opposition to play) and our Newcombe team. The skill development, game sense, leadership and sportsmanship that developed throughout the season was wonderful to observe. Thank you to your Year 6 teachers, Mrs. O’Donnell, Miss Hunt, Mrs. Gemmell, Mr. Burton and to Nick Holdsworth for their support and brilliant coaching skills. Our overall results within the District Competition were: Newcombe 7th, Volleystars 8th, Tee Ball Girls’: 3rd, Tee Ball Boys’: 4th, Hot Shots Boys’: 3rd, Hot Shots Girls’: 2nd, T20 Cricket A: 3rd and T20 Cricket B: 7th. This Thursday sees the first round of our Term 2 sports as we take on Glen Iris PS. Netball will be played at Glen Iris PS, Australian Rules at Eric Raven Reserve and Soccer and Softball will be played at Dorothy Laver Reserve West. GO HARTWELL! HPS CROSS COUNTRY - FRIDAY 11TH MAY @ LYNDEN PARK As mentioned last week, information and a schedule will be sent home in the coming weeks regarding this exciting event. As always at HPS, our XC event will be all about participation, doing your best and having fun. Year 3-6 students will participate from 9.30am-11.30am (9&10yrs, 11yrs then 12&13yrs) and the Prep-Year 2 students will run between 11.30am and 12.30pm. A map of the course is on display in the gym. We had great turn out at Lynden Park last Friday morning for our first running sessions at Lynden Park, with Yr. 4 teacher Mrs. Burgess and Yr. 5 teacher Miss. Kroyherr turning out for an early run too. Thanks also to the parents who assisted. Training will be on again this Friday at 8am at Lynden Park. See you there. SSV DIVING Huge congratulations to Heidi G. (S6B) and Emma W. (S5F) who competed in the SSV Regional Diving Championships last Thursday at MSAC. The girls participated in a Diving Victoria clinic in the morning after arriving in South Melbourne before 8am! Once their diving skills were honed, it was onto the competition proper in which they had to perform three different dives (front dive, back dive and front sault) from the 1m springboard. This was a terrific experience and a wonderful achievement for both girls in their first diving competition, as they both show much determination and great self-efficacy. Well done Heidi and Em! BOROONDARA DIVISION TENNIS Best wishes to Wei-Jie T. (S6B) and Jessica T. (S6B) who will compete in the Boroondara Tennis Championships this Thursday at Sacred Heart

Tennis Club, after winning our district competition late in 2017. Good luck Jess and Wei-Jie! HOOP TIME The Basketball Victoria Hoop Time season is fast approaching with our Junior competition tipping off later this term. HPS enter both Junior (Yr. 3 & 4) and Senior (Yr. 5 & 6) teams in both the All Star and Future Stars/Rookie competition. These categories are determined by BV, with strict playing criteria for each level of competition. The HPS trials are open to all students regardless of their basketball experience, as participation is the focus. The Hoop Time dates are: Junior All Stars: Friday 1st June Junior Future Stars/Rookies: Tuesday 17th July Senior All Stars: Thursday 9th August Senior Future Stars/Rookies: Wednesday 15th August Trials will be held for Year 3 & 4 students on the following dates and times: GIRLS: MONDAY 30TH APRIL @ 8AM AND WEDNESDAY 2ND MAY @ 8AM BOYS: MONDAY 7TH MAY @ 8AM & WEDNESDAY 9TH MAY @ 8AM Registration for these trials will take place this week. If your child has not registered their intent to attend, they must do so by Thursday. It would be great if students could attend both trials, however, they must attend at least one trial to be considered.

Have a great week.

Year 2 Word of the Week

Well done to the year 1s last week who used their word of the week ‘glancing’ in their writing, and in conversation. There

were many year 1s at recess and lunch who were “adamant” that they were “glancing” and not looking at their fellow

friends in the playground.

This week, the year 2 word of the week is reminisce.

The year 2s will learn that this word means when someone looks back on or remembers an

experience. The year 2 teachers have cleverly chosen this word to tie in with the ANZAC celebrations

that will be happening this week.

Even if you’re not a year 2 parent, this is a perfect word to be using and modelling the correct use of

with your child this week.
