I received many comments about the community spirit, with several remarking that they are proud to be part of a community where so many work so hard for the benefit of the Hartwell students. The children obviously had a lot of fun and the rides, cakes, food and choc-o-toss were just a few of the highlights from the students’ point of view. Nicole Bainbridge did a superb job co-ordinating all the activities with her committee Kirsty Stoll (equipment), Cath Sheahan (marketing including the management of the facebook page) Liz Tritton and Linda Schiffer (food), and Sam Wallis who co- ordinated the stall holders. These ladies have worked hard to organise the fete over the past months, particularly since the start of this term. Well done and thank you all very much. Your organisation and calmness was amazing and you managed to keep us all smiling during the fete and in the week leading up to it. Anna Glenn also deserves a special mention as she and her team- Natalie Langlands, Jackie Pearson and Jacqui Richardson sourced and organised both the loud and silent auctions which is a mammoth task. It was Anna’s idea to add the very popular teacher raffle prizes to the fete in 2014 and it was again very successful this time around. Thanks for all your work Anna. I would also like to thank the dads who were part of ‘Dad’s Army’. These men were at school on Friday night, Saturday and again on Sunday to help with the pack up. They moved furniture, set up signs and moved the left over trash and treasure, books and clothing at the end of the fete- to name just a few of their tasks. Many other parents sponsored the fete, donated goods, worked on stalls, helped with the set up 2016 Term 4 November Thursday 24 Oxfam Concert 7pm Friday 25 Ready, Set, Go Wednesday 30 9am - Year 6 Photos & Senior Strings December Friday 2 Ready, Set, Go Monday 5 Prep Excursion to Puffing Billy Tuesday 6 - Year 6-7 Orientation Day -Orientation Day for new students Yrs1-6 -2017 Prep Info Session 7.30pm Monday 12 Whole School Christmas concert 2.40pm Monday 19 Year 6 Graduation Tuesday 20 Yr 6 Bowling Excursion End of Term 4 1.30pm dismissal 2017 January Tuesday 31 Term 1 commences for Students February Saturday 25 2017 Movie Night Monday 27/2 3/3 Year 6 Camp to Canberra and clean up, managed the finances etc. etc. Thank you all for your generosity and support of the school. unsold items from the silent auction. If you want to purchase something, please contact the school office. Oxfam Concert Best wishes to the students who will be performing at the Oxfam Concert on Thursday evening. The senior choir, drum band, both string ensembles and our newly formed jazz band will represent our school. Thanks to Clare Hyland, Michael Lee, Sally Munday and Hannah Church, our violin teacher, for their support of these groups and for continually motivating them to play and perform so well. Help Needed From Dads Please We are hoping that there might be a team of 6-8 dads who can assist us to move student tables and chairs from one learning community to another- ready for the start of the 2017 school year. We are planning to do this on Thursday 15 December from 4.00pm – about 5.00pm. If we have 6-8 helpers we think that it should only take an hour. If you are able to assist with this task please either phone the school on 9889 4012 or return the form in the newsletter letting us know. Thanks for considering this matter. 2017 Prep Playdates The 2017 Prep playdates will be held at the Food Drinkery, opposite Wattle Park Primary School, 22 Banksia Street, Burwood on the following dates: Friday 16th December 10-11am Wednesday 25th January 9-10am Wednesday 1st February 9.15am Watering Roster We plan to set up a watering roster again this year for the Summer vacation with two to three families ideally rostered each week to water the plants. In particular we want to target the new plants; the plants along the Milverton Street side of the school, including the front garden; the garden outside the art room and the plants along Oberwyl Street including the small garden on the corner of Oberwyl and Merton Streets. We have had extra taps put in the garden so that the task is manageable and will have several hoses on reels for the volunteers to use. If you are not going away for the entire holiday period and would be willing to be on a watering roster for one week, please complete the attached form and send it to the office. This is a very practical way to ensure that our students return from the Summer holidays to an attractive school environment. Details of the roster and how to access hoses will be forwarded to volunteers in the last week of the school year.

We are also interested in hearing from any parents who would be happy to arrive at school a little early- approximately 2.45pm on hot days and spend 30-45 minutes watering the gardens. If you can assist please come and talk to Garry Collins or me or see the ladies in the office. Reminders

Kris Moore Principal PE UPDATE HOOP TIME – STATE GRAND FINAL DAY Congratulations to our Junior All Star Boys’ Hoop Time Team on their wonderful efforts in the Basketball Victoria Hoop Time State Grand Final yesterday at Dandenong Stadium. The standard of basketball really stepped up as you would expect at State level. Well done to the boys for doing their best and showing great resilience. They may have only come away with one win for the day, but they worked hard and showed great spirit. Finishing in the top 20 out of 320 teams across the state is a fine effort. An enormous thank you to Mick Kuflik for coaching the team and also to Katrina Spargo for scoring. Thank you to all of the parents for taking their boys to the tournament.

Best wishes to our Junior Future Stars team who will play in their Basketball Victoria Hoop Time State Grand Final Day this Thursday at Dandenong Stadium. Again another outstanding Hartwell effort. Good luck to Siena C, Alicia W, Zak N, Rio M-S, Tim P, Andrew L, Lachie Y and Max G. GO HARTWELL!

SWIMMING TRIALS – SAVE THE DATE Swimming trials will be held for current Year 2-5 students (2016) on Friday 2nd December from 4pm - 5.00pm at Harold Hold Aquatic Centre. These trials are to gain selection to represent Hartwell PS at the Glen Iris District Swimming Carnival to be held in Term 1 2017. It is imperative that swimmers can swim 50m in their chosen stroke without stopping. Another trial will be held early in Term 1, 2017 for students who are ill, cannot make this trial due to a clash with another activity or those students who are new to the school in 2017. If your child is coming, please confirm with them they have registered with me.

Have a great week.

Bike Safety With the warmer weather upon us we have had a lot more Year 5 & 6 students riding to school. Can you please remind your child about the need to ride safely. We received a report of a potential serious accident with students riding too fast and not being able to stop on Toorak Rd. Mrs Bayes will speak to all students who ride to school about following the rules learnt in the Bike Safety lessons. A reminder also that only Year 5 & 6 students who have taken part in the Bike Education lessons and filled out a permission form are allowed to ride their bike to school. Garry Collins Assistant Principal Year 6 Graduation Fundraiser Icy Poles will be on sale during lunchtime on Tuesdays and Thursdays and after school on Fridays.
