Through the sale of Smencils, Mrs. Garbini’s lunches for staff members, Teachers wear-jeans-on-Wednesday initiative, coin collection boxes, students “wear a hat for a dollar” days and the sale of donated smoothies, the Hartley family raised over $5,000 for cancer treatment and research! We also earned the distinction, based on our fund-raising efforts, of being named “Rookie Relay for Life Team of the Year”. Thank you to every staff member and family who helped with this worthy cause. Congratulations also to fifth grader Maria Rovera from Mrs. Barnes’ class who represented Hartley in the District-wide Olympic field day held at St. Augustine High School last Wednesday. Maria placed sixth overall in the entire District in the 100 meter run and 4 th overall in the Frisbee throw. Way to go, Maria! Be sure to ask your child if he/she is working on a “Model Eliciting Activity” (MEA) in class at this time. Many of our teachers and teams are using a resource on the CPalms Educational Resource Website which features units related to real-world problems which students must work together to solve using skills in multiple content areas like reading, math and science. Teachers have received information about the MEA units and many are using them with their students. It’s absolutely amazing to see elementary school children coming up with creative solutions to some of our world’s most serious problems. Finally, don’t forget to visit our website for links to summer camps and activities. Most of those camps have offered free attendance for one Hartley student who is eligible for free/reduced lunch, so if you are eligible and interested, be sure to call me soon (547-8382). Just twelve days and counting till summer break… boy, has it flown by! NO VEHCILES IN THE BUS LOOP BETWEEN 8:00 -8:30 AM & 2:30-3:15 PM Springtime Dress Code Alert Parents, Please be aware of our District dress code, and check to make sure your children are in compliance with required standards before they leave for school in the mornings. Many of our young ladies have “shot up” over the school year, so we’re finding that shorts which may have been appropriate in the fall are now too short. Other areas where we’re seeing some challenges are listed below. Shorts should be fingertip length or longer. Jeans should not be ripped or torn. Sleeveless tops are OK, but no tank tops are allowed. Shirt straps should be a minimum of three inches across. Shoes should have backs or straps (no flip flops, etc.) If students are found to be out of compliance with the dress code, parents may be called to bring a change of clothes or students may have to remain in the office to complete work. Thank you for helping our students, look and feel their best!

PTO Headlines

We've had a wonderful PTO board this year, but unfortunately, two of our board members are leaving Hartley next year. This leaves us with open board positions for next year.

Do you want to be more involved with our school, but don't know how? Joining the PTO board will keep you in the loop of the fun and educational things going on at Hartley. Our PTO board meets once a month to plan fun events, fundraisers and work closely with Hartley teachers and administration. Basically, we're the FUN group!!! If you're interested in joining the PTO board, contact Pam Head at 904-814-7335 or [email protected].

Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranch

The Youth Ranches work alongside the Sheriffs and SROs of Florida’s counties to offer a week of free summer camp for youth 10-15 in age both boys and girls.

We believe in offering youth the chance to enjoy summer camp without families having to pay to send their child. We currently still have spots available in our session for the week of June 28th – July 3rd.

For a youth to take advantage of the free summer camp the parent just needs to go to our website, www.youthranches.org and choose the link “Apply for Summer Camp” I also have applications in PDF form that I can email you or any member of your staff. Parents can then fill out the form and send back to us by mail or email. Registration does close soon so parents should register as soon as possible.

Thank you for your time and feel free to call me or email me with any questions.
