Inside JK’s head

• 1990, in Manchester looking for an apartment, but decided to take the train back to London and the idea for Harry Potter “fell into her head” during the journey. She didn't have a pen and was too shy to ask anyone for one on the train, so the full four hours on the train she thought up all the ideas for the book. She began to write ‘Sorcerer’s Stone' that very evening. 

• Kings cross is a real place in England---parents met there• Invented the names of the Houses on the back of an

airplane sick bag. She loves inventing names, and also collects unusual names, so that she can look through her notebook and choose one that suits a new character
