Harrison North Elementary
Tuesday’s professional development included grade level meetings for preschool and 4th grade thru 6th
grade and a webinar for grades Kindergarten thru 3rd grade on DIBELS/Amplify on data reporting.
Over 75 students attended the Wacky Wednesday after school event sponsored by the Scio Methodist
Church.
Donnie Madzia and Jen Birney attended the administrative professional development on Wednesday
afternoon provided by Blair Closser and Ron Sismondo of the Jefferson County ESC.
Shawnee Arbaugh, Anna Tipton, Charlotte Sayre, Donna Carpenter, Donna Pendleton, Donnie Madzia
and Jen Birney attended the licensure renewal meeting provided by the district’s LPDC committee on
Wednesday.
Our Winter Music Program entitled “Christmas Wishes” was held on Thursday afternoon featuring the
Kindergarten, 2nd, 4th and 6th grade students. Special thank you to Dan Erbacher for preparing our
students for this program.
6th grade students recently polled 1st and 2nd grade classes on a variety of holiday related topics such as
“Would you rather live in a giant ginger bread house or ride on the polar express?” and complied data
in the following illustrated graphs.
Following the conclusion of the Winter Music Program on Thursday afternoon, students and families
attended our first Winter Holiday Fest Afternoon held in the auditorium which was filled with displays
including the OSU Extension Office, the North Pole drop off box provided by the Scio Post Office, art
activities, holiday story readers, 4th grade students sharing their PowerPoint presentations, cookies &
milk, raffles and activity packets for winter break. Special thank you to our Title I teacher, Tenley Telfer
for organizing this event.
Congratulations to 4th grade student, Jazymne Brown as she was the lucky winner of the Winter
Holiday Afternoon Fest gift basket.
Donna Carpenter and Louan Demas’ 3rd grade students visited the Harrison Co County Home and
Ashley Jacobsen, Lisa McAfee and Heather Soos’ 1st grade students visited the Sunnyslope Nursing
Home on Friday morning to spread some holiday cheer to the residents with songs, story reading,
cards and artwork.

Harrison East Elementary
Mrs. McAfee’s Second Grade class made a Reindeer decoration to usher in the holiday season.
Harrison East Students demonstrated their gift giving by bring toys for Stuff the Ambulance. Over 300 toys were donated towards this worthy cause.
The District’s Safety meeting was held on December 18 at Harrison East. Mr. Madzia and Mrs. McKinney both attended.
Kindergarten, 2nd, 4th and 6th grades performed a medley of Christmas songs. They drew a crowd that filled the Gym.
Mrs. McAfee’s SRI point leaders with Shelby Gossett earning 200 points and Mykel Quito, Markus Hilbert and Brody Yeager earning 100 points so far.

DISTRICT OFFICE:
Mrs. Snider and Mrs. Harding attended the Family and Children First Counsel meeting.
Licensure renewal meeting was held on 12/17/2014 to assist teachers with the new online process.
Administration attended holiday events in all buildings.
Treasurer prepared the tax budget and has on file for review prior to approval on January 11, 2015.
Superintendent and Treasurer met with County Auditor to discuss values and collections.
Superintendent and Treasurer attended the Family and Children First Council Meeting.
Treasurer completed and filed the SERB summary sheet for the OAPSE contract beginning 7/1/14.
Treasurer completed accounting procedures/report for Ohio Department of Health for the MIECHV grant. IEP reviews were held this week at Harrison North Elementary, Harrison Central Jr./Sr. High School, Harrison Career Center, and the Harrison County Board of Developmental Disabilities
Administrative professional development was held on 12/17/2014
Further planning for Ohio's New State Tests was held at Harrison Central Jr./Sr. High School
Career Tech funding webinar attended by Mr. Parker and Mrs. Gibson at the J.C.E.S.C.
Ohio's K-12 monthly assessment newsletter distributed to Harrison Hills administrators
Student enrollment assistance provided to new district residents
Resident Educator program discussed with effected district employees and external contact established for follow up
