Harmony Fine Arts Autumn 2010 Art and Music Appreciation Plans These plans will once again help your family with a simple and easy to implement way to provide artist and composer study in your home. The plans are flexible and can be used by children of all ages. Artist: Edgar Degas (ed-GAHR deh-GAH) Composer: Sergei Prokofiev (SER-gai Pro-KO-fee-eff) The selections for art and music this season are loosely connected by the thread of ballet. Edgar Degas is know for his paintings of ballet dancers and Sergei Prokofiev wrote many ballet scores including Romeo and Juliet as well as Cinderella. Rest assured that not all of the paintings are ballet themed and there is the suggestion to listen to Peter and the Wolf so your boys will be happy with this season’s art and music as well. Art Appreciation Keep your study simple by viewing each painting on the computer and then perhaps using the artwork as your computer desktop for a week or two. Look up Edgar Degas at your library and read age appropriate biographies. There are suggestions for books on the resources page. There are images of each of the featured paintings included in this ebook. Our family completes a simple notebook page to include in our art notebook and you will find plenty to choose from included in these plans. Along with picture study, I have planned some optional art projects as a follow up to your picture study. You will find these projects will help you glean a little more from each of the paintings. There is a list of supplies needed on the resource page. Music Appreciation Sergei Prokofiev is the composer selected to go along with your study of Degas. With a little preparation you can include this music in your daily routine. Add Prokofiev’s music to your computer’s playlist. You can also listen to the music online with the links provided. You can acquire a CD of Prokofiev’s music and listen to it in the car as you travel between activities. Download the pieces to your iPod.
