HARMONY 2014
Thank You To Our Gold
Sponsor
Dear Healthcare Professionals, On behalf of Harmony Healthcare International (HHI), I am very pleased to welcome you to HARMONY 2014 for what promises to be our best and most memorable event yet! I hope that your stay in Foxwoods is both rejuvenating and educa-tional. We have packed both days with rousing speeches, exciting performances, thought-provoking panels, and the chance to meet amazing people from all over the country who are striving to provide the best care possible. We have a full agenda over the next two days, so please take a few minutes to read through the information in this packet. It includes our program schedule and other important information.
As 2014 draws to a close, reflection on the previous year reveals the healthcare industry experiencing contractor transi-tions, policy updates and regulatory changes, all which have impacted day to day operations. Providers continue to endure extreme scrutiny of claims as Medicare and Medicaid contractors seek areas of vulnerability related to proper payment. In spite of the pressures, healthcare providers make every effort to obtain and retain fair and accurate reimbursement for the exceptional care delivered everyday by staff.
2014 and 2015 is an exciting time for healthcare professionals as we continue to grow and adjust, remaining always adapt-able, motivated and responsive to innovations for best practices. Our industry is confronting many changes and we are meeting these changes during a time of larger nation-wide and global change. The world of patient care is an exciting area in which to work, and I am committed to continue to meet and bring inspired people together in forums like this, to ensure our industry remains at the cutting edge. This gathering is a small part of my ongoing commitment to partnering with clients, as well as influential industry leaders to ensure quality of care.
For 20 years, I have observed healthcare providers rise to the challenges of the complex Medicare Prospective Payment System (PPS) and Medicaid reimbursement systems. I feel it is important to bring light to critical changes that have oc-curred with the False Claims Act. In 2012, the government received the highest amount of whistleblower complaints in its history. This, combined with the advent of the Affordable Care Act and PEPPER, leaves the entire SNF industry under overwhelming scrutiny for accurate payment. This lends itself to the numerous changes taking place specifically within the reimbursement process. Simply put, Medicare and Medicaid billing are now the most prominent risk areas in health-care.
As an Occupational Therapist, I will always be a patient advocate. I am extremely passionate about the care for the geriat-ric population. It is our responsibility as care givers to ensure that our interdisciplinary team has the necessary education to compliantly negotiate the complexities of the regulatory and reimbursement systems. It is through understanding of these complexities, we can guarantee that we continue to offer patients access to the services they require to promote recovery and prevent decline. That is why you are here. This industry has continued to meet the challenges of our field and to excel despite setbacks. We should all be very proud of where we are today and excited about where we are headed.
With that in mind, I am proud to offer you this dynamic, highly educated team of healthcare professionals from across the country who will be presenting a complement of topics over the next two days. I am confident that you will find our breakout sessions to be both thought provoking, constructive and entertaining. We welcome all feedback as a gift to en-hance our future programs.
Throughout this conference, I ask you to stay engaged, keep us proactive and help shape the future of healthcare. Please stop by and greet our sponsors who share the same passion for care of the geriatric patient, as they have come to join in our celebration of the interdisciplinary team! You will find that they all represent remarkable services and products which con-tribute to quality care provision.
As there are many brilliant sessions to select from and it is not possible to be present in each one, as our gift to you we have included the slide presentation for each session on a memory stick in your HARMONY 2014 bag.
I would like to thank each of you for attending HARMONY 2014 and bringing your expertise to our gathering. You, as organization leaders, have the vision, the knowledge, the wherewithal and the experience to help us pave our way into the future.
I look forward to seeing you all at our Dinner and Comedy Reception on Thursday evening, and of course again at HARMONY 2015. Enjoy your time at Foxwoods Resort Casino!
Sincerely,
Kris Mastrangelo, CEO & President Harmony Healthcare International (HHI)

FEATURING: Lenny Clarke
Comedian/Actor
November 6, 2014
5:00 p.m.—7:00 p.m.
Drinks, Dinner, Entertainment
Lenny Clarke was born in Cambridge, Mass., one of eight children. He decided to pursue stand-up comedy one night when he was working as a jani-tor, putting himself through college at University of Massachusetts in Boston. That night, he went to the Ding-Ho Res-taurant in Cambridge and saw some com-ics performing. Convinced he could do the same thing, he returned the next week and, "The rest, as they say, is history!" he exclaims.
Clarke spent several years as the host of the open-mike nights there and has trav-eled the world as a stand-up comic. His comedic abilities cap-tured the attention of Rodney Dangerfield, who gave him his first big break, casting him in Nothin' Goes Right. He and Dangerfield also worked together years later on Meet Wally Sparks. After years of hard work, Clarke was "discovered" at the Montreal Comedy Festival.
He had his own series, Lenny, which ran for 18 episodes. Other TV work includes The John Larroquette Show, hosting The Sunday Comics, and appearances on Touched by an An-gel and The Love Boat: The Next Wave. From 2004 to 2011, Clarke appeared in the recurring role of Uncle Teddy on the FX Network's Rescue Me.
