Brethren;
We say we are Freemasons, claiming to be men who are there for our fellow-man, willing to help them in their time of need. We say we are charitable, givers of hope and brotherly love, but do we truly present ourselves in that light. I took an obligation which I truly hold dear and that is not always easy
to up hold on a literal bases, but I find that I am still; a just and upright mason in progress. Even as Worshipful Mas-ter of the lodge I am still growing in the light of Masonry thankfully with the help of other Brethren. So I am asking you to challenge yourselves and see if you are a Mason still in progress, if so, I challenge you to get a little more involved at the lodge and continue
growing. If you think you are already a well-informed Mason, I challenge you to get involved at the lodge and help your fellowman.
This is the time of year to plant your seeds and grow, what seeds are you planting?

Newest Past Master’s Words
Brethren;
It has been an honor and a privilege to serve Harlandale Lodge as Worshipful Master and be a representative of its standards for the past year. During this time, you have shared with me your concerns, your suggestions, as well as your life’s joys. It has been so rewarding to serve you by doing all I could to meet the needs of the Lodge. I am very thankful for my year of experience. Being able to help you with those concerns and many other cases have been one of the most fulfilling parts of my duties. Also, thank you for sharing your many stories of happy endings, encouragements and confi-dence in me; I am humbled by each and every one of them. I sincerely hope that all your needs will continue to be met beyond my year of service. The French philosopher Victor Cousin once said, “You can only govern men by serving them. That’s how I hope you have seen my year as Worship Master of this Lodge, as a selfless servant and a consensus builder. Thank you for giving me that opportunity. God bless you all.

A WORD FROM OUR EXITING SECRETARY R:.W:. T.E. “Gene” Carnes
What an honor it has been to serve Harlandale Lodge as Secretary. The last 3 years has not only been an educational event in my life, it has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. The personal relationships I have enjoyed with all the members of the Lodge was the part that was really unique. Most of the Officers and members never get to see or communicate with those members who for whatever reason can’t come to Lodge. However, the Secre-tary in one way or another communicates with all the members. The only sad part about the Secretary’s job is when he finds out that a member has passed to the Supreme Grand Lodge above and the Lodge was not notified by the family of his passing. I en-courage each of you to provide your family with some guidance about contacting the Secretary or Worshipful Master in the event of sickness or death. I feel very confident that our new Secretary, Brother DJ Molina, will do a good job as Secretary and each of us need to support Worshipful Master Rangel, the Secretary and all the Officers as they accomplish the daily tasks of managing the affairs of the Lodge.
My Brethren, I am very concerned about our membership and the health of our Lodge. The age of our members on average is well over 60 years of age and half of our membership is composed of 50-Year members. The demographics of the Harlandale commu-nity have changed, and we are not attracting local people like we did in years past. As you know, we are not allowed to solicit new members, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t talk to our friends and family members about Masonry. We can tell them what Ma-
sonry is about and that if a person is interested in becoming a Mason, he must ask a Mason for a petition. My relatives never told me that I had to ask to become a Mason. I had to find it out on my own. I could have very easily not have become a Mason if I had not been told by another Mason that I had to ask. Harlandale Lodge has started having a special meeting entitled “Invite a Friend to Lodge Night” where we present a program about our fraternity and what the requirements are to petition. When the date of that meeting is announced, please invite your friends and family to attend. If we don’t start getting some new members, we will surly pass from existence.
We have started doing some remodeling at the Lodge. The electri-cal system on the second floor (Lodge level) is being upgraded, the ceiling in the dining area has been lowered and new tiles installed, and the men’s restroom has been spruced up (thanks to the Order of the Eastern Star). Come to Lodge and see what a difference a little loving care does to the Lodge.
Brethren, our Lodge needs us and I encourage you to come to Lodge and hear the Masonic education programs being presented, There is always an interesting program other than just the busi-ness meeting on all our Stated meetings. Sure, we have to pay the bills and take care of the business of the Lodge, but the real rea-son we go to Lodge is to learn about Masonry and study its great lessons. I hope to see you at Lodge soon,
My Brethren,
FROM THE LAMBSKIN NEWSLETTER EDITOR Bill Nanes, PM
Well … another Lambskin Newsletter is making history. As usual, it takes many hours over several days to put these newsletters together, especially if articles requested to fill a decent newsletter sometimes takes an act of Congress. But, in the end, most officers come through. The hardest part of writing a newsletter is trying to squeeze in a piece into existing articles and moving others to dif-ferent parts of the newsletter to satisfy a late entry. Maybe the next newsletter will be more friendly.
I invite any member of Harlandale Lodge to submit a bit of news or Masonic lecture. Please keep your submitted articles to no longer
that the longest article of this newsletter unless you give me ‘heads-up’. Send your article to my email as an attachment and written in Microsoft Word. Send to [email protected]
I hope you are enjoying this issue of the Lambskin thus far. I expect to release the next issue sometime during October 2015.
Until then … be safe and healthy, and if you haven’t been attending our Lodge meetings, come by—we would like to see ya!
Until the next

I did it!!! Now for my final educa-tional journey.
Our guests were greeted at the door and led to the dinning room before entering the Lodge room for the
awards ceremony.
Worshipful Master D.J. Molina and Bill Nanes, PM, go over the presentation format while the guest are
invited into the Lodge room.
R:.W:. T.E. ‘Gene” Carnes, Harlandale Lodge Secretary offers Masonic history to our guest. He also gave the
history on the Lamar Award. Excellent delivery.
Harlandale HS counselor, Ms. Rosaline Mousivais, read the recommendations for the honorees . From

Ms. June Bell, Order of the Eastern Star (OES) Worthy Matron at Harlandale Lodge delivers a most welcomed contribution to
the Lamar Award recipients.
Ms. June Bell then presented the OES $500.00 education voucher to Bernadette Mullins of

McCollum counselor Mrs. Jaime Denise Zimmerle reads scholarship recipient Brandi Drennon’s recommendation.
Our Lodge proudly has repeated many years in recognizing and rewarding students in our Harlandale community who have achieved high standards in their education.
This year our Lodge was fortunate to award one McCollum and one Harlandale High School scholarship recipients $1,000.00 each from our Lodge’s funds in addition to matching funds from the Masonic Charities Foundation. During the presentation, each student received a total of $2,000.00 in the form of a voucher to be used towards their higher education.
We also awarded two Lamar Awards to another
two students; one from each Harlandale Inde-pendent School District high school. For this award, each student received the Lamar Medal Award and a $100.00 cash prize to spend as they wish. However, this year a new twist came into play.
Last year, the Harlandale Order of the Eastern Star voted to raise funds for education purposes. And this year, our Lodge was delighted that their contribution was merged with this year’s Lamar Awards. Therefore, each Lamar Award recipient was given a $500.00 voucher to be used specifically for their higher education. This was
a real blessing and the members of Harlandale Lodge thank all of the OES members. Thank you, thank you.
Enjoy some of the many photos taken during the presentation ceremony. This article continues on the next page.

HARLANDALE MASONIC LODGE INSTALLATION OF 2015-2016 OFFICERS
A new line of officers for the Masonic year of 2015-2015 was installed on July 18, 2015, before the members of Harlandale Masonic Lodge and our fami-lies and guests. As customary, the families and the public are encouraged to attend this event that goes back many, many years. This year was no excep-tion. This year we have eight Past Masters called to serve; including the Junior PM; DJ Molina. It should be an exciting Masonic year.
There was one officer that could not be installed on this date, but he will be at our next stated meeting on Tuesday, July 21st. Nevertheless, the installa-tion went without a hitch and our guests were plentiful. We had many friends of incoming officers, and the Lodge members were delighted to have a good number of members of the Harlandale Order of the Eastern Star attending. It is always nice to be among them.
The event started with a social, of course. But once the Masonic Lodge was opened, the guests entered the Lodge as our Musician, Brother Paul C. Zappe III, played several music selections on musical organ. He is pictured later in this article.
After the installation, there was time to take tons of photos with families and friends - too many to post on one single newsletter. However, a few of our favorites are provided herein. I hope your enjoy the pictorials following this page.

A note from the Harlandale Lodge ‘The Lambskin Newsletter’ Publisher and Editor:
I much appreciate ANY individual who appears before an event I am covering to get ‘da news’ and offers to help. Allow me to introduce Mr. Brandon Ramos (pictured at right) who came to witness the Harlandale Scholarship and Lamar Awards at our Lodge last June 2015. He seemed interested in photography so I gave him my camera and asked if he would take some photos of the event while I participated in the actual presentations. Then he shows up for the installation and again I gave him my camera since I had a part in the installation.
He produced some fantastic close ups and other event photos for both events pictured in this newsletter since I needed them quick and could not wait for other photos taken. The photos taken from my camera we downloaded and used in this issue of the Lambskin.
I wish to thank Brandon for his help and fine work. Kudos. Bill Nanes, Harlandale Lambskin Newsletter Editor.

You’re a sick senior citizen and the government says there is no nursing home available for you. So what do you do?
Our plan gives anyone 65 years or older a gun and 4 bullets. You are allowed to shoot four Politicians.
Of course, this means you will be sent to prison where you will get three meals a day, a roof over your head, central heating, air conditioning and all the health care you need!
Need new teeth? No problem. Need glasses? That’s great. Need a new hip? What about knees, lungs or heart”? They’re all covered.
As an added bonus, your grand kids can come and visit you as often as they do now. And who will be paying for all of this? It’s the same government who just told you that they cannot afford for you to go into a home.
And you can get rid of 4 useless politicians while you are at it. Plus you might not have to pay income taxes anymore!
Is this a great country or what !!

FUNNY PAGE AND STUFF!
When Mussolini gained control of Italy, Masonic lodges were declared illegal, and the Grand Master was arrested, tried, and
imprisoned, where he died.
Mussolini also ordered all Masonic references removed, including the emblems on the base of Garibaldi’s monument in Rome.
After the restoration of the republic, fascist emblems were removed and the Masonic emblems restored.
In Fascist Spain under Franco, it was a crime to be a Freemason. Masons convicted had to serve prison terms equal in years to
the number of Masonic degrees possessed. Master Mason =3D 3 years.
When the great Obelisk of Alexandria (Cleopatra’s Needle) was moved to New York in 1880, certain emblems were discovered
on the original foundation and pedestal. One is clearly a square, causing some to conclude that Masonry existed in ancient
Egypt. This issue is still open to debate.
