The University of St. Thomas Center for International Studies haspresented the Ann Tiller Latin America Collection to the Houston WorldTrade Association Library. Dr. Tiller, a professor of history, was founderand director of the center until her death in 1981. The donation coincideswith a plan to develop an association export-import information service onthe many countries associated with Houston and the Port. Included in thecollection are works on Latin American art, music, history, politics,

South Coast Terminals, Inc., of Houston has opened this new hazardouschemical drum filling station which the company claims employs the latesttechnology to till drums with toxic chemicals while minimizing the risk ofexposure to personnel. Chemicals are pumped out of railroad cars ortrucks, which can be positioned within 30 feet of the facility, and injectedinto drums. The drums are enclosed in a filling chamber from which

vapors are automatically removed. The chamber is equipped with a drychemical deluge system to extinguish flash fires. No hoses are used, so therisk of leaks due to faulty hoses is minimized. Safety showers, selfcontained breathing apparatus and communications equipment are nearby for easy access by workers. Digital scales insure that each drum is filledwithin one tenth of one percent of its desired weight.

Gabbett namedV.P. of newSea-Land unit

Ronald T. Gabbett of Houston,Western Gulf manager for Sea-LandService, has been named vice presi-dent, North America in a new operatingarm of the company, the Americas Divi-sion.

The division was created tostreamline Sea-Land’s containershipservice from Houston and eight otherU.S. Gulf and East Coast ports to sixCaribbean and six Central Americancountries.

Gabbett will be responsible for divi-sion sales and operations in the U.S.and Canada. He will be based in Iselin,New Jersey.

David J. Tolan has been named ex-ecutive vice president of the new divi-sion. Other new appointees are CharlesG. Raymond, vice president, Carib-bean/Latin America; Gary T. Ferrulli,director of pricing, and Ronald Sforza,director of planning and finance.
