EXCITING news about
Harbour View’s
20th anniversary!
Welcome to Harbour View High School
Submitted by Mr. M. Butler
Sixteen years ago I began teaching right here at
Harbour View – and I am thrilled to be back this
year as principal of this great school. Since leaving
HVHS nine years ago I have had a variety of oppor-
tunities which have been wonderful, but no school
feels like home to me except Harbour View.
A special welcome to our new grade nine Vikings. I
hope you are excited about being part of the HVHS
family – a school community that values the diversi-
ty each of you brings.
Returning to Harbour View means that I get to be
part of a staff who provide tremendous learning
opportunities for our students, both in classrooms
and through extra-curricular activities. Even before
school has begun, staff and students have been hard
at work on the fields and on the stage preparing for
fall sports and our upcoming musical produc-
tion. The constant opportunities for all students to
discover and use their talents is such an integral part
of the HVHS experience.
The next ten months will present countless opportunities for each of you – chances to learn in the classroom, to
participate in a huge array of activities, and to contribute to the life of a school that is always growing and
improving. Take advantage of those opportunities!
Looking back over the years since I started my career here at Harbour View, it is clear to me how much this
school allowed me to learn and grow. I hope your experience is the same – and that you are able to Invent
Yourself Here.

Parents are an important part of the HVHS community. One way to get involved is through the HVHS Parent
School Support Committee (PSSC). The PSSC provides opportunities for parents to be informed about and
engaged in the life of HVHS. Members share their thoughts and provide feedback on behalf of the parent com-
munity in support of the growth and success of HVHS. Through monthly meetings, committee members learn
of current activities and new projects at the school as well as initiatives within the educational sector that will
impact the school and students. The Committee contributes to on-going processes such as the School Improve-
ment Plan as well as school specific activities. On occasion, there are opportunities for members to represent
the HVHS PSSC at District activities and other initiatives.
If you may be interested in becoming an active member of the HVHS community by participating in the
PSSC, watch for information on how to join, or email [email protected].

Hey Vikings, welcome back!
I hope everyone had a great summer, but you’re going to have an even better school year here at HVHS!
This year we have a bunch of great new ideas as a Student Council, but we’ll still ensure that we plan our awesome annual events
such as dances and theme weeks!
For all our new grade nines out there, I would like to welcome you, on behalf of the Student Council, to our school and the Viking
family. Try not to worry too much about being in high school; you have four amazing years ahead of you to invent yourself as a true
Viking! Get involved and have fun. These are your glory years. Make the best of them!
I hope that you’re all as excited to start this year off as I am.

By Rachel Fullerton-Quin
Hey Vikings! Welcome back to HV! My name is Rachel Fullerton-
Quin. In the past, I’ve written monthly articles about books column
and fashion; however, this year I’m delighted to be able to be the
editor of Harbour Views.
For those of you who don’t know me, I’m someone who is always
ready for a laugh and I am never afraid of meeting new people. The
yearly productions of SCENES, and the musical have been, by far,
my favourite part of being a Viking these past four years. I’m look-
ing forward to adding Harbour Views to my list of memories.
I hope everyone made the most of the summer months. I spent most
of it working, as I’m sure many of you did, but I also had some un-
forgettable experiences. Although far too short, my summer was fan-
tastic and I’m beyond excited to be starting my senior year. I’m real-
ly looking forward to things like prom and grad events (woo!!)
To the grade 12’s: this is your year. Try out for a sport you’ve al-
ways wanted to try, challenge yourself to direct your own scene, join
clubs that you may have missed in the past; it’s not too late. To the
10’s and 11’s: don’t sit around waiting for senior year, high school
goes by quickly; any 12th grader will tell you that. Take in every mo-
ment you can. Grade 9’s: high school is wild. You’ll make friends
you wouldn’t trade for the world, and learn new things about your-
self continuously. Become whoever you want here.
Vikings, this year is bound to be awesome: don’t miss a thing!

Harbour View’s fall musical takes us under the sea
TAYLOR BRENEOL as
URSULA
“In a way, Ursula isn’t a villain,
she’s just misunderstood which
has lead her to do some not nice
things. Ultimately, she’s just
trying to regain the power she
so rightfully deserves.”
EMILY ALSTON as
ARIEL
“Ariel embodies the rebellious
teen of today. She’s spunky
and she doesn’t give up.”
IAN MCGILL as
SCUTTLE
“The greatest thing about play-
ing Scuttle, the bird, is that I
don’t have to worry about how
crazy my hair looks.”
ALLY HEBERT as
FLOUNDER
“It feels weird that this is my
last musical performance at
HVHS. You always think, I
hope we can try this or that next
year—but then I realize I’m not
coming back.”
CALEB HUNTER as
SEBASTIAN
“My character is a very strict
crab who likes to play by the
rules, but he does like help-
ing people any way he can.”
ANNA CHISHOLM as
ARISTA
“My character is one of Ariel’s
sisters. She’s really sassy and a
little jealous of her sister be-
cause King Triton likes Ariel
the best.”
ALEX TAYLOR as
KING TRITON
“King Triton is a loving fa-
ther who just wants the best
for his daughters. I like play-
ing him because I’m in com-
mand and that’s pretty cool.”
BENNETT YOUNG as
ERIC
“Eric doesn’t want to be a
prince. He wants to be a sail-
or so he’s very adventurous,
carefree and alive. I’m not as
smooth as he is; he’s got
some moves.”
