“Miss 10, Do it Again!”

It is the LAW that you cannot miss 10 or more days of school and receive credit for your courses. Subsequent violations of the Scottsdale Unified School District Code of Conduct or Arizona law

including but not limited to A.R. S. 15-802, A.R.S. 15-803,

A.R.S. 15-804, will result in further disciplinary procedures, which will include placement on audit status and loss of credit.

What if my absences are excused?The law pertains to both excused and unexcused absences. This means that between the first day of the semester and the last day of the semester, you may be absent up to 10 times without school penalty; however, missing class information can impact your grade.

** The only exception is for a chronic medical condition or other admin approved

Coronado Tardy Policy

● Students will be marked tardy when they arrive after the tardy bell and within the first 10 minutes of class.

● Students will be marked absent when they arrive after the first 10 minutes of class.

● The only exception will be a hand-written pass from another teacher or staff member.

Tardy Consequences● “Miss 10 do it again!”

Excessive tardies can also result as No Credit (“NC”) in a class.

● Tardy discipline policyo 1st-3rd Tardy: Warnings and teacher consequenceso 4th Tardy: Power Hour (after school)o After 5 tardies, administrative consequences will

become more severe (i.e. Saturday School, parent meetings, tardy contract, and NC status)

Summary

Your “job” is to be in class, on time, Monday through Friday. Absences should be for the times when you are contagious, injured, have an appointment that cannot be scheduled outside of the school day, and family emergencies only. In those cases, please have your parent/guardian inform the school through the attendance line.

Coronado’s Commitment to Safety

Coronado is committed to keeping everyone safe while on our campus. Every student and staff member has a role in making this happen. Please see the following people with any concerns about your safety outside of the classroom: Campus Security, Campus Administration, or our Student Resource Officer (Officer Haines)

Wear Your Identification

● All students and staff members are required to wear their Coronado High School ID cards on campus. Identify yourself as a Don!

● All SUSD employees are also required to wear their school/district ID cards

● All other visitors, volunteers, or guest speakers must sign in the front office, wear a visitor’s badge, and be escorted at all times.

Student ID Policy

● Students must wear their ID so that it is visible to all staff members at all times. The only exception is during any class/activity that may cause a safety concern (i.e. PE, dance, specific Science labs, etc…)

● A temporary ID card is required when students lose or forget their identification.

A Safe and Orderly Building

● Students must remain in class during the first 10 minutes and last 10 minutes of class.

● Students must follow each teacher’s policy for obtaining a pass

● Students must wear the individual teacher’s hall pass

● Students found in the hall without a pass and ID will have consequences after tracked offenses.

● Remember to wear school appropriate clothing that does not expose undergarments, the back, chest, abdomen, midriff, genital area, or buttocks.

● Clothing that displays or suggests obscene language, symbols, nudity, or anything that advocates drugs, alcohol, or tobacco is also not allowed.

● Students who violate the dress code policy should be sent to administration for a change of clothing.

Technology Privilege

The use of District computers and network resources is a privilege, not a right, and may be revoked at any time.

Acceptable Uses of Technology

● Students will use computers, network resources, and personal technology devices for educational purposes only.

● Students will abide by all copyright and trademark laws and regulations.

Personal Responsibility

Students will accept personal responsibility for reporting misuse of the network.

Misuse can come in many forms, but it is commonly viewed as sending or receiving material that exhibits or promotes pornography or violence, unethical or illegal behavior, racism, sexism, or inappropriate language, or constitutes a violation of the district Code of Conduct guidelines.

Electronic Devices

Students shall be responsible for their own property

(Coronado/District is not responsible for lost or damaged property).

Classroom Procedures

As a reminder, electronic devices should only be out when directed by a teacher for instructional use. Breaches to this policy will lead to temporary confiscation by an administrator.

1st offense: Reteach expectations/classroom intervention2nd offense: Teacher contacts Security to confiscate device, device may be picked up at end of school from Administration.3rd offense: Office Discipline referral, Security confiscates device, parent contacted, and the device mustbe picked up by parent.

Rude/Threatening Gestures Rumors/Gossip Social Exclusion/Rejection Teasing Theft Threatening Other

Any student who believes that he/she is, or has been; subjected to bullying, intimidation, hazing or harassment by any other student, visitor, or school staff is urged to contact the Principal or Assistant Principals at Coronado. There may be times, however, when you feel uncomfortable reporting such conduct to the Principal or and Assistant Principals. In such cases, you should report the conduct to a teacher or counselor.

Similarly, any person who becomes aware of any bullying,intimidation, hazing or harassment should report it to the Principal or an Assistant Principals.

Step 1: Be kind and respectful to others!Step 2: Ask students to STOP being disrespectful when you see/hear bully-like behavior.Step 3: Report repeated offenses of verbal & emotional aggression and harassment. All forms of physical aggression/violence should be reported immediately!
