Section Emergency Coordinator

Happy New Year! I know that some of you received new radios for Christmas as I have heard some of them on the air. I’ve also heard conversations about how hard some of those new radios are to program so you have bought programming cables to program them. But, what happens if you are on a public service event or an emergency operation and you push a button and get your radio in one of those weird modes where it won’t do anything and you have to do a master reset? You won’t always have your computer and programming cable handy to reprogram your radio.

Page 3: HAPPY NEW YEAR - ARRL 2015 Section News letter.pdf · the advertising they did about DXCC card checkers being at the event. They were kept busy. I thank Superstition ARC for a great

3

Take time this month and at least once a quarter to manually program a few frequencies in all of your radios. That way those programming skills will be fresh in your mind so you can quickly get back on the air when things go wrong. Dennis Bietry – KE7EJF / Section Emergency Coordinator / [email protected]

SCOUTING AND YOUTH IN AMATEUR RADIO

Joe Statkevicus K3TYE will be teaching a Radio Merit Badge class and a license class in Tucson starting on January 15th. Scouts should contact Stan Stachowiak at [email protected]. Space is limited so sign up early.

At least 30 scouts will be taking the Radio Merit Badge Class. If you hear them on the radio (HF or D-Star) please help them with contacts. This is the 7th year for the Raytheon Scout Day and over 350 scouts will be participating. Over 22 merit badges will be offered in the fields of engineering.

2015 Auction

February 2, 2015

St. Clement of Rome Social Hall 15800 N Del Webb Blvd

Sun City, AZ 85375

Contact: Ted KB5OF @ 623-910-9275

Welcome to the WVARC/West Valley Amateur Radio Club’s annual auction, the first Monday in February. Doors open at 1800 hours for registration, browsing and

setting up. Auction begins at 1900 hours.

YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE A CLUB MEMBER TO BE A SELLER.

Sellers will register and fill out one ticket per item to sell whether as individual items or a box containing more than one item. Rules of the auction are posted

which include payments and fees.

Note: when filling out your ticket(s) PRESS HARD. THERE ARE 4 COPIES!!! Bidders will register to receive a number paddle to use when bidding. A Cashier’s desk will be set up to pay for items won. You may pay at any time during or after the auction is over. Sellers will receive their proceeds in the mail. We have found this to be better than paying at the auction which takes too much time and gets

everyone home very late.

Items eligible for sale shall be ham related. This rule is followed to the T ! Auction directors will be the final word on what is ham related. Buyers will show receipt ticket

at the exit. There is a soda machine in the lobby. No other refreshments are planned. Equipment will be sold ‘as is’, no refunds. Payment will

be cash or check with proper identification. Your participation in this auction is your commitment to follow the rules. If you need help bringing in items from or in

taking items to your car, please ask and someone will gladly lend assistance.

Hello Bob,

The Maricopa Amateur Radio Association, Inc, will be holding its first CopaFest next year on

Saturday October 17th. Would you be able to to attend the event and represent the ARRL with a

booth. The location is at Harrah's Complex, located on Ak-Chin land. We would also be interested

in having someone from ARRL give a a presentation on Amateur Radio, as we plan on having

meeting rooms in the adjacent convention center.

Please let me know if this would be possible. We met today with our representative from Ultra Star
