““I've had a wonderful life” is the refrain one hears when

Margaret Maves reminisces. She was raised by her grandparents in the small Canadian town of Windsor and met her first husband John Cornelison while working at the local YMCA. “When he asked me for a date I said, 'You betchya!' “ Sadly, they were married only eighteen months when Jack, as she affectionately calls him, was shot down over Germany leaving Margaret alone with their baby. “I was very much in love with him. He was a wonderful man.” She met the second love of her life when married friends convinced her to join them and a male guest for a game of Bridge. “I said 'okay', but made it very clear, 'I am not inter-ested in a relationship with any man'.” Sur-prise! There was an immediate connection between them and they married two months later. Over the years they raised three chil-dren and played lots and lots of golf. “It was wonderful.” Forty years as the media coordinator for the United States Golf Association had Margaret traveling all over Europe and Norm always went with her. With a wink, she relates the time Arnold Palmer took her by the hand and asked her to help him avoid the media. Awards, honors, and mementos of gratitude for countless contributions, (“labor of love” she calls it) to the Ladies' Professional Golf Association adorn her walls. Even now when the LPGA is in town, they ask her to work in the media center. “Not bad for 92!” she says. While sitting in her serene apartment punctu-ated with pigs of all shapes and sizes, Marga-ret fondly and freely shares the treasures of her heart: husbands, children, grandchildren, a great grandchild, thoughtful neighbors, dear friends, and the heart-warming people of Courtyard Village. “I've had a wonderful life”, she says with a smile, “and I'm still living it.”

“Little of all we value here

Wakes us on the morn of its hundredth year

Without both feeling and looking queer.

In fact, there’s nothing that keeps its youth,

So far as I know, but a tree and truth.

(This is a moral that runs at large;

Take it. You’re welcome. No extra charge.”

From the The One-Horse Shay by Oliver Wendell Holmes

Be who you are and say what you feel —-Because those who matter —- don’t mind

And those who mind —- don’t matter.

Brad’s Body works:

Benefits of staying active.

Regular exercise can keep you fit and help you stay independent as you age. Other benefits may include faster recovery from illness, reduced risk of chronic disease and better management of existing medical problems such as osteoarthritis. Here are some tips for staying active.

1. Choose activities you find interesting and manageable. You are more likely to stick to an exercise routine if it’s fun.

2. Check with your doctor before you start a new exercise routine. Some activities may not be appropriate if you have been sedentary for a long time or suffer from obesity or a chronic illness.

3. Start slowly and aim for small improvements. Be guided by your doctor about how long and how frequently to exercise. Keep track of your progress.

4. Make exercise a social event. Invite friends along come to a class so you can meet new people while getting fit.

5. Improve your flexibility. Try yoga, stretching exercises, or dancing.

6. Build muscle tissue with strength training. Lift weights or perform a modified form of calisthenics.

7. Look after your bones. Weight-bearing exercises can reduce your risk of bone loss and osteoporosis as you age.

8. Improve your heart and lung fitness. Opt for moderate intensity exercise for maximum benefit. Aim for activity that means you breathe hard but are not left feeling breathless.

9. Reduce your risk of falls. Include balance and coordination exercises in your weekly routine. Try balancing on one leg and heel to toe stands.

10. Build exercise into your daily routine. Walk to the shops or bus, spend more time in the garden or offer to walk a neighbor's dog.

A few Father’s Day Jokes….

Johnny’s father: Let me see your report card. Johnny: I don’t have it. Johnny’s father: Why not? Johnny: My friend just borrowed it. He wants to scare his parents.

Manny: How do you like the drum set you got for your birthday? Theo: I love it! Manny: Why? Theo: Whenever I don’t play it, my dad gives me 10 bucks!
