LADIESFUND® Women’s Awards in Pakistan (LWAP 2013):

We celebrated our 5th LADIESFUND® Women’s Awards in Pakistan at Mohatta Palace Museum,

Karachi, where we presented awards People’s Choice Awards for Trailblazer (Nida Butt), Momentum

(Azra Ahmed), Woman Of The Year (Ameena Saiyid) and a special Lifetime Achievement Award

(Fatima Suriya Bhajia). Malala Yousufzai and the two girls injured alongside her – Shazia Riaz and

Kainat Ramazan – won the KHUSHHALIBANK® Idol Award.

LADIESFUND® Entrepreneurship Conference for Pakistan (LEC 2013):

Dawood Global Foundation (DGF), the Higher Education Commission, French Consulate, German

Consulate, Indonesian Consulate, British Deputy High Commission, Turkish Consulate, Honorary

Moroccan consulate, Chinese Consulate and Ozygin University Turkey, came together to hold the

4th LADIESFUND® Entrepreneurship Conference (LEC 2013), a milestone event for Pakistan that

attracted well over 600 guests.

LEC 2013’s theme was “Game Changers," and the event featured speakers from Turkey, France,

Germany, Indonesia, UK and Switzerland, as well as the best of local entrepreneurship. Sherry Rehman

gave the Keynote address, former UK First Lady Cherie Blair sent a special video message saying she has

fond memories of her visit to Pakistan and wishes to come again, pop star Zoe Viccaji sang the National

Anthem along with her band. The jam-packed day was filled with cutting-edge panels, interactive

workshops, educational presentations, Yoga Stretch Break by Jeanette Faruque and

Indonesian cultural dance by Indonesian delegates. The event was a fundraiser for women empowerment

in Pakistan and in particular vocational scholarships for grassroots girls for media studies at the Institute

of Journalism as part of the LADIESFUND® Educate a 1000 Girls Programme.

Cherie Blair Foundation for Women Mentee Appreciation Lunch for Pakistan:

Former UK First Lady Cherie Blair and her Cherie Blair Foundation for Women hosted a Mentee

Appreciation lunch at Cafe Flo for their mentees in Pakistan who have been nominated by Dawood

Global Foundation & LADIESFUND®. Ms. Blair sent a special video message and the scrumptious 3-

course sit down feast and networker was attended by alumni, current mentees and prospective mentees,

including supermodel Ayaan, jewelry Nazneen Tariq Khan, Muna Siddiqui, Laeeq Akbar, Naila Naqvi,

Shireen Hilai, Zofreen Ebrahim & Bina Butt.

LADIESFUND® Scholarships and Fellowships:

Haniya Sheikh (Raintree Spa Scholar), Eman Mehmood (ego Scholar), Maheen Khan (Natioanl Bonds

Scholar) & Kainat Abro (SkinMedica) were funded 2013 LADIESFUND® Bachelors scholarships for

Iqra University.

Educate a Girl Project:

Fall 2013, LADIESFUND® launched Educate a Girl, with the mission to fund 1000 vocational

scholarships at the Institute of Journalism, Pakistan. Each scholarship is PKR 10,000 (tax exempt) or

$100 or €100 or £100 and funds a 3 month media studies certificate course + LADIESFUND®

placements of the top students in internships at JUNG/GEO/Hum TV and the creation of a special post-

graduation, pre-training workshop for the girls in etiquette, grooming, news anchoring, print and dressing

for the workplace.

To date by word of mouth alone, over 100 need-based scholarships have been funded with 47 girls having
