This is a special year for us as we celebrate 25

years of trading in the Canadian market. Thanks

to our Torbram family of employees, suppliers

and customers we were able to start this

milestone year with tremendous momentum.

The 2014/2015 trading year saw record profits for the Canadian

operation on the back of 14.8% sales growth. Last year also saw

both the strengthening of our presence in the Alberta market, with

the opening of our new Leduc branch, as well as the launch of our

new company website.

We have everything in place to make our 25th anniversary year

not only a milestone year but a record year as well!

A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT

-Thomas H. Mackie

01Roller Derby Queen

From Assistant Credit Manager to “Boote”, The- Designated Pivot...

Melissa Goddard, Assistant Credit Manager, Northwest Division has been involved with the Orangeville Roller Derby team since 2012.

“My derby name is Boote - my number is 2, and I am most commonly a pivot (a designated blocker that can become a jammer), but I am also a relief jammer (point scorer) for my team. I am there to do whatever my team needs. I was hooked to this sport from the moment I put on all my gear and skated for the first time in January 2012, after which I played in my first bout in July 2013. Game injuries kept me off

skates for about 6 months, but the injuries allowed me to take on a new role - temporary coach, which I also enjoyed very much, but playing is my passion.

The sport itself is very unique and intense and has made me an athlete, never having thought that word or lifestyle would ever be a part of my life. Roller derby has taught me everything I know about being a part of a team and the team motto “One Heart, One Team, One Track” is something I live by!”

Lighting Retrofit & Energy Savings

Cornerstone Ltd.

“KRP Properties was interested in becoming energy efficient and reducing their impact on the grid. A comprehensive energy audit survey was performed at the property to identify opportunities to upgrade lighting and provide energy savings. Each individual building was reviewed with minimum inconvenience and disruption to tenants. T.E.S. then provided solutions that not only best fit their needs, but also saved on energy reduction and carbon footprint, as well as offered maximum hydro rebates.”

North Kawartha Community CentreOur Peterborough branch recently received some positive feedback from an energy audit for North Kawartha Community Centre.

“Dear Sean and Aletta,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you both for your assistance and work completed, on the recent lighting audit and LED lighting conversion at the North Kawartha Community Centre. As you know, we completed a comprehensive energy audit as part of our energy management plan. Although the arena surface lights and exterior wall-packs were identified as primary targets to reduce energy consumption, we also did not want to sacrifice current lighting levels with this LED conversion.

CUSTOMER TESTIMONIALSHowever, your assistance, expertise and lighting design options, resulted in an excellent finished product that I know all of our customers and staff will appreciate for years to come. In addition, not only will we experience an immediate reduction in energy consumption, and thus operating costs, but I also would like to thank you for your assistance with the Ontario Save on Energy Program.

The rebates available through this program provided a very attractive ‘return on investment’ calculation for this capital project.”

What is an “Alternate” ?

What do the colours in Supplier Replenish mean?

Alternates or Similar are the same or replacement products sold by different vendors. These products are ‘linked’ in IMS so you can have a choice as to which one to sell.

BLUE - When you see a Quantity, Stock Code, Catalog # & Description in BLUE it signifies there is a cheaper alternative.GREEN - When you see a Quantity, Stock Code, Catalog # & Description in GREEN it signifies there are similar items. RED - When you see a Catalog # in RED it signifies that the Item is obsolete. - When you see a Quantity in RED it signifies there is surplus in your group. - When you see a RED Outline around the line it signifies that Min/Max values have been set manually and not calculated by IMS.GREY - When you see the Total box in GREY - Check item for better terms.

IMS TIPS & TRICKS

If there is an alternate/similar product in IMS, when the code is entered into a sales document (Quote, Packing Slip, Cash Sale) the stock code will be highlighted in green.

Use the F9 function key when your cursor is focused on the product line and the alternate/similar products will be listed with the vendor and pricing details.

TES ABROAD

B2B is Live in the UK

In the UK the online electrical wholesale market place is now worth £400,000,000 million pounds per annum and this is forecasted to rise to £500,000,000 million by 2018, this means total online sales are set to become bigger than CEF UK and around 10% to 15% of the total market place in the next 3 years. The good news, after 32 months of preparation we launched our exciting new B2B website has required a considerable investment of time and money and it has required the establishment of new disciplines and functions for CEF and modernization of some of our more traditional methods.

This milestone event for our CEF UK is critical to our continuing success and has been developed to ensure we stay relevant to our customers whilst creating an opportunity for significant sales growth over the coming years. It has already been an exciting

journey with many challenges and we’ve only been trading for 7 weeks. We have 26,800 product lines (sku’s) in stock for next day delivery from our central distribution warehouse from over 180 leading vendors.

In the month of February alone we shipped over 4,500 orders through this new channel, with a sales value approaching £800,000 and attracted nearly 700 new customers who opened accounts online (No more paper account forms!). We now have 20,000 existing customers registered to use the new website, the challenge is to now get them to place their first order!

Interestingly over 75 percent of electrical contractors are now using a smart phone device to conduct their daily business. The web is being used to check inventory levels, source technical specifications, review price comparisons and to place orders

for products. It is therefore essential that CEF now provide a web site for our customers. Our site has been designed to compliment our existing branch business. As we develop our on-line business model we are very confident that this will help to drive additional traffic to our branches, as customers embrace our click and collect services and learn more about the services and products we offer. This will give our customers flexibility to shop with us on-line or via our branch network and many will alternate between the two depending on their circumstances at the time of purchase. Research has shown that for those companies who develop an effective multi-channel strategy they are likely to be rewarded with customers who spend more and stay more loyal to their brand. One of the key design principles of our site has been to ensure that customers can find products easily. This has

required an immense amount of effort to ensure our product content, attributes and images are organized and structured in such a manner to deliver an outstanding customer experience. Our highly disciplined approach will be rewarded by Google in terms of search results, furthermore our high quality content should be easy to action by our customers. Our marketing will endeavour to be memorable, inviting to look at and fun to read for new customers. We will be embracing digital marketing techniques and social media to drive brand awareness.

Our UK branch teams have been really pleased with the additional influx of activity it is still early days, it all looks very promising for the future.

Visit the new site at:http://www.cef.co.uk

HEALTH & SAFETYSafety Shoes

Protective Overshoe Gets CSA Standard

Safety Shoes In accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, all employees working in the warehouse are required to wear steel-toed safety shoes. Each employee is eligible for a new pair of safety shoes every two years, for which reimbursement of up to $75.00 per pair is qualified. The need to purchase/replace safety boots shall be at the Branch Managers discretion. The company shall compensate the employee once original receipt for the purchase has been submitted.

The protective toe overshoe now has its own Canadian Standards Association (“CSA”) standard: CSA Z334. The standard was published on January 1, 2015, and manufacturers have a year to comply.

This new set of safety criteria was developed since the criteria under CSA Z195-09: Protective Footwear, was not doing the job. The new standard CSA-Z334 does something else that is just as important: it clearly states that protective overshoes should not be regarded as safety footwear: it is for temporary use only. The protective overshoe is great for individuals touring the premises; not so great for the worker operating a press at the back.

The biggest difference that lies between the old standard and the new is at the toe - CSA-Z334 recognizes that all toe caps are not the same, and the ones used

Did You Know...Eating a sodium-heavy diet may lead to more headaches?

A recent study found that people who eat around 1,500 mg of sodium per day are 25% less likely to experience headaches than people who eat upwards of 3,000 mg. Do you have excess sodium lurking in your diet?

• Increased sodium intake likely leads to increased blood volume and expanded blood vessels, resulting in a headache.• According to Health Canada, the upper limit for the general population is 2,300 mg. • Read your food labels and start to educate yourself on just how much you are getting every day!

22 THE WIRE

WHAT’S NEW

Group Number Eight

The groups/branches underwent a structural change out West in British Columbia. Effective April 1, 2015, an 8th group called the ‘Fraser North Group’ was added to our original chart, consisting of 4 branches. This decision was reached by management with a focus and vision to stabilize and increase results in the West, as well with a view for further expansion. The new group is led by Ronan Berry, previously the Branch Manager of the Downtown branch, who has consistently brought results in the top 10 position in all categories of the business.

We wish Ronan all the best in his new endeavour, and also look forward to exciting times for the business out West!
