Polarized plugTo reduce the risk of electric shock, this appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). This plug will fit in apolarized outlet only one way.

Q he cleaner can be carried byplacing hand under the carrying

handle and lifting.The handle of your cleaner hasthree positions: upright for storage

and for when using cleaning tools; oper-ating position for general operation oncarpets and floors; low for reachingunder low furniture. Stepon handlerelease pedal (E),then pull handle backto lower handle.

With red and green lights, theDirtFINDERTu_system alerts the

user to areasof carpet that may needmore cleaning attention. It is able tosensewhen embedded dirt is removed.

The clean light (green) will remain onthroughout cleaning except when thedetector senses that a larger amount ofdirt is being picked up; then the dirtylight (red) will come on.

When the dirty light is on, you shouldtake additional cleaning strokes in thearea until it changes to clean.

Cleaning lightweightflexible rugs

Beforereaching edge, push down on handle.This will lift up the nozzle and will pre-vent the rug from clinging to the cleaner.Continue to lift up nozzle so that whenyou have reached the edge, it is com-pletely off the rug. Move cleaner back tostart again, lower nozzle, and use onlyforward strokes.

Using the tools

Tools allow for cleaning surfaces abovethe floor and for reaching hard to cleanareas. The cleaner is ready for tool usewhen the handle is in the upright posi-tion.

Note: When handle is in upright posi-tion, agitator brush roll is automaticallyOFF.

Tools may be attached to the telescop-ing handle/wand or directly to thehose (see Fig. 26).

OAttach tool to wand or hose bypushing it firmly onto the end of

the wand or hose. Twist tool slightlyto tighten or loosen the connection.

For optimum performance of the pow-ered pet hair cleaning tool, attach itdirectly to the hose.The hose can be removed from the

handle grip by depressing the buttonand pulling away from the wand.

Tag Along TM grip

When using cleaning tools, thecleaner can go with you. Placehand under the Tag Along TM grip (A),tilt cleaner back on rear wheels andpull.

How to clean tools

To clean the hose and the poweredhand tool, wipe off dirt with a clothdampened in a mild detergent. Rinsewith a damp cloth. Do not submergepowered pet hair cleaning tool inwater.

Cleaning tools may be washed inwarm water with a detergent. Rinseand air dry before using.

Extra reach hose

(some models)Some models include an extra reachhose to provide you with a 20 footreach (when connected to the regularhose), to allow easier cleaning ofstairs and hard to reach high places.Press POWER button to turn cleanerOFF. Remove regular hose fromhandle/wand. (Fig. 5)

To attach extra reach hose toregular hose, align button (A) onextra reach hose end with hole (B) onregular hose end. The button will"pop up" when the hose ends aresecured in place.

floor brush. Attach the floor brush to theend of the telescoping handle/wand.Extendthe telescoping wand to reachthe floor.

Stair cleaning

O se the hose and the poweredpet hair cleaning tool for stair

cleaning.

Always place the cleaner at the bottomof the stairs. Clean from bottom to top.

CAUTION: To avoid personal injury, andto prevent the cleaner from falling, useextra care if the cleaner is placed onstairs.

NOTE: Maximum performance of thepowered hand tool will be achieved ifthe powered pet hair cleaning tool isused on the end of the hose without the

telescoping wand.

Filter bagWhen to replace

Check filter bag from time to time.Your cleaner will not operate effec-tively if the filter bag is too full.

NOTE: All new carpet has loosefiberswhich can fill the bagquicklywhile vacuuming.

If youare usingthe cleaneronnew carpet, be sure to changethefilter bagoften.

CAUTION: Very fine materials,such asface powder or corn-starch,may seal the filter bagandcauseit to burst even though it isonly partially full of dirt. Whencleaner is usedto remove materialof thisnature, changefilter bagoften.

the way into tray. The bag collar open-ing will be sealedto the dirt tube open-ing.

Tuck in filter bag inside the bag cavity.

Close bag door.

O isconnect cleaner from electricaloutlet. Do not usecleaner without secondaryor final filter in place.

The secondary filter, located within the grill (A) in the bottomof the bag compartment, protects the motor from dirt particles.

If filter becomes dirty, slide grill out and remove filter. Handwash filter with mild detergent and cold water. Rinse and letfilter air dry completely before repositioning in grill.

Align grill on tracks and slide in until it snaps into position.

Headlight replacement

What to buyThis cleaner uses a T3 1/4 wedgebase bulb, HOOVER part no.27313107.

Disconnect cleaner from electrical out-let.

Presson handle release pedal andlower the nozzle so it is flat. Removebag door (Fig. 32).

Remove lens

Q sing a Phillips screwdriver,remove the three screws asshown and lift off lens.

Pull old bulb straight out of socket.

Replace lens

O ush new bulb straight intosocket until locked in place. Donot twist bulb.

Excessive force is not required.

Reposition lens and secure with thethree screws.

Agitator brush roll belt

The agitator brush roll belt is designed tolast the lifetime of the cleaner. It typical-ly should not need replacement. If youfeel the agitator brush roll belt needs tobe checked or replaced, take yourcleaner to an Authorized HooverSales and Service Center. Do not

attempt to remove the agitator brushroll belt.

Agitator brush roll

When agitator brush roll brushes onthe powered pet hair cleaning toolare worn, the agitator brush roll shouldbe replaced. Ask for HOOVER partNo. 48414088.

How to replace

Q1. Remove tool from hose andturn it so bottom faces up. Press

the latches on either side of tool andremove bottom plate (A).

2. Unscrew the two Phillipsscrews and remove belt guard(B).

3. Remove agitator brush rollincluding end plates (C) and

discard.

4. Inspect belt to ensure that it is ingood condition. If belt is cracked,gouged or broken, replace it (see fol-lowing section).

5. Insert agitator brush rollthrough belt and position beltover gear teeth (D) on agitator brushroll.

6. With curved ends down,slide end plates (C) of agitator

brush roll into slots (E) on tool.

7. Replace belt guard (B) mak-ing sure not to pinch brush bris-

tles in guard. Turn agitator brush roll,to make sure it rotates freely.

Replace and tighten screws.

Q8. To replace bottom plate (A),insert the four tabs on edge of

bottom plate into slots on front oftool.

Pivot bottom plate down and snapclosed.

Belt replacement

Inspect the belt

The powered pet hair cleaning too[belt is designed to last a long timeand is not normally replaced.However, if the belt is cracked,gouged or broken, it should bereplaced.

Remove tool from hose. The belt canbe seen through the top of the nozzleor by removing the bottom plate andbelt guard (Figs. 47 and 48).

Replace belt

When replacing belt, ask forHOOVER part No. 38528037.

1. Remove bottom plate, belt guardand agitator brush roll as described inFigs. 47 through 49.

_2. Grasp turbine (E) and pullfirmly to remove.

3. Remove belt from turbine pulley(F). Replace with new belt.

4. With flat sides of turbineretainers (G) pointing down,slide retainers into grooves (H) in toolhousing and snap into place.

5. Replace agitator brush roll, beltguard, and bottom plate as describedin Figs. 50 through 53.

Thermal protector

An internal thermal protector has beendesigned into your cleaner to protect itfrom overheating.

When the thermal protector activates,the cleaner will stop running. If thishappens, proceed as follows:

1. Turn the cleaner OFF and discon-nect it from the electrical outlet.

2. Check secondary and final filters fordirt accumulation.

3. Refer to "Clearing blockages" sec-tion.

4. When cleaner is unplugged and themotor cools for 30 minutes, the ther-

mal protector automatically resets andcleaning may continue.

If the thermal protector continues toactivate after following the above steps,your cleaner may need servicing (see"Service" section.

Agitator brush roll stall

If the agitator brush roll stalls due to adebris such as hair, strings, etc., thecleaner will automatically stop run-ning.Disconnect cleaner from the electri-cal outlet.

Turn the cleaner over and remove anydebris that may have accumulated onthe agitator brush roll. Plug the clean-er back in and press the ON/OFF but-ton once to turn cleaner on.

Disconnect cleaner from electricaloutlet.

Low suction or pick up may be due to a

blockage in the system. Refer to the fol-lowing steps to check for blockages con-tinuing with each step until the block-age is found:

Turn cleaner OFF and disconnect fromelectrical outlet.

1. Check fullness of filter bag. Changebag if needed (Figs.32 through 36).

Check dirt tube opening

Turn cleaner OFF and disconnectfromelectrical outlet.

2. Remove filter bag (Figs.32 &33). Check for clog in dirt tube

opening (A) and remove. Replacefilterbag (Fig. 36). Close bag door.

Para cambiar la bolsa de filtro, sujetela parte superior de la puerta de labolsa (A) y jale la puerta haciadelante.

Para volver a colocarla, alinee lasbisagras de la puerta con las ranurasque se encuentran en la parte inferiordel _irea de almacenamiento de la

Presione hacia abajo la puerta parafijarla en su lugar.

34. Retire la bolsa de filtrosujetando el collar de la bolsa (B) yjalando el collar de la bandeja (C).

Limpieza de los filtrosFBtro secundario

:}7. Desconecte la limpiadora de latoma de corriente el_ctrica. No use

la limpiadora sin tenet el filtrosecundario o final en su lugar.

El filtro secundario, que se encuentradentro de la rejilla (A) en la parteinferior del compartimiento para labolsa, protege al motor contra laspart[culas d& suciedad.

Si el filtro se ensucia, deslice la rejillahacia fuera y ret[relo. Lave el filtro amano con detergente suave y aguafrfa. Enju_guelo y deje que se sequeal aire por completo antes de volver acolocarlo en la rejilla.

Alinee la rejilla en los rieles ydeslfcela hasta que encaje en sulugar.

3. Saque la correa de la polea de laturbina (F). Reernphicela con unacorrea nueva.

5. Vuelva a colocar el rodillo de

escobillas del agitador, el protector dela correa y la placa inferior como sedescribe en las figuras 50 a 53.

Protector t6rmico

Su aspiradora tiene incorporado unprotector t6rmico para impedir elsobrecalentamiento.

Cuando el protector t6rmico se

activa, la aspiradora dejar_ defuncionar, Si esto suceqe, proceda de[a siguiente manera:

1. Apague la aspiradora ydescon_ctela de la toma de corrienteel6ctrica.

2. Revise si se ha acumuladosuciedad en los filtros secundario yfinal.

3.Consultelasecci6n"Eliminaci6ndeobstrucciones".4. Una vez clue la aspiradora est_desconectada y el motor se hayaenfriado durante 30 minutos, elprotector t6rmico se reajustaautom4ticamente y se puede seguirpasando la aspiradora.

Si el protector t6rmico sigueactiv4ndose despu6s de efectuar lospasos anteriores, es probable que suaspiradora necesite servicio (vea lasecci6n "Servicio").

Protecci6n en caso deatascamiento del rodillo

de escobillas del agitador

Si el rodillo de escobillas del agitadorse atasca debido a desperdicios comocabello, hilos, etc., la aspiradora sedetendr5 autom4ticamente.

Desconecte la aspiradora de la tomade corriente el_ctrica.

Voltee la aspiradora y saque cualquierresiduo que se haya podido acumularen el rodillo de escobillas delagitador. Vuelva a enchufar laaspiradora y oprima el bot6n deencender y apagar una vez paraencender la aspiradora.

Eliminaci6n deobstrucciones

Desconecte la aspiradora de la tomade corriente el_ctrica.

La succi6n o aspiraci6n baja se puededeber a una obstrucci6n en el sistema.Consulte los siguientes pasos a fin derevisar si hay obstrucciones, siguiendolos pasosuno a uno hasta queencuentre la obstrucci6n:

Apague la aspiradora y descon_ctelade la toma de corriente el_ctrica.

1. Verifique si est4 Ilena la bolsa defiltro. Cambie la bolsa si fuesenecesario (figuras 32 a 36).

Revise la abertura deltubo de suciedad

Apague la limpiadora y descon_ctelade la toma de corriente el_ctrica.

56.2. Retire la bolsa de filtro (figuras32 y 33). Verifique que no hayaobstrucciones en la abertura del tubode suciedad (A) y redrela. Vuelva acolocar la bolsa de filtro (figura 36).Cierre la puerta de la bolsa.

Enchufe la limpiadora, enci6ndala ycontin0e la limpieza.

Apague la aspiradora y descon_ctelade la toma de corriente el_ctrica.

57. 3. Voltee la aspiradora y saquelos residuos acumulados en el rodillode escobillas del agitador.

Vuelva a colocar la aspiradora en laFaOSici6nde funcionamiento. Enchufe

aspiradora, enci6ndala y contin0elalimpieza.

Revise el flujo de aire

58. 4. Saque la manguera (]el tubode extensi6n.

5. Enchufe la aspiradora y enci6ndala.Revise si hay succi6n en el extremode la manguera. Si hay succi6n,contin@e con el paso 6. Si no haysucci6n, revise si hay algunaobstrucci6n en la manguera. Eliminela obstrucci6n.

7. Saque el tubo de extensi6n de laaspiradora. Revise para ver si hayalguna obstrucci6n. Elimine laobstrucci6n.
