There is a shift in regional channel dynamics. Global vendors are

progressively moving towards in country distributor partnership.

The hub and spoke arrangement with a central hub managing

multiple country operations is becoming increasingly less reliable.

Each country has been recognised to have its own dynamics

and its own localised channel partner relationship. With an

overall slowdown in corporate IT buying, global vendors are

keen to aggressively penetrate and develop country markets

previously kept at second run. With such a perspective, in country

distributors are better placed to recognise the role played by

local channel partners and their requirements. The Handbook of

Distributors is an effort by Reseller Middle East to move towards

profiling distributors in more detail and in multiple countries.

RME sent out survey forms to more than 250 active vendors.

Gearing up

Middle East operations

We have recently opened an office

based in Dubai to cover the Middle East

and North Africa regions for logistics and

support to complement our operations

in Taipei and to provide a shorter lead

time. We have operated in MENA for

over 20 years and the company has

been established for 30 years. We have

seen significant growth over the last

five years in MENA despite the unrest in

some countries.


We manufacture the largest range of

POS systems and peripherals in the

world. We have one of the lowest field

failure rates in the industry of less than

two percent over three years. We also

offer fan free systems operating at, up

to 70 degrees and with up to Intel Core

i7 processors. Speed and flexibility are

the key elements which differentiate

us from the competition. Our through-

the-line operation model from board

designs, system manufacture to

customer services enable us to manage

requirements, delivering tailor-made

products with supreme quality using

innovative technology. Our extensive

global support through network

coverage from worldwide subsidiaries

and strong distribution channels provide

unparalleled after-sales service support

Our focus is mainly on the retail and

hospitality sectors.

Channel approach

We ensure that the partners we select

are focused within the point-of-sale

industry and have technicians that can be

trained in Taipei to offer excellent service.

We only sell to distributors from Taiwan

and only appoint one distributor per

country in the MENA region. In the

Within POS the trend is to go for faster

and at GITEX 2014 we will have the

chose vendors which will benefit from our

worldwide presence and which are able

building stronger relationships and giving

us economies of scale and added security

Channel approach

We provide a complete end-to-end

service to our channel, which really

differentiates us from other distributors.

As an example our departments operate

cross functionally, which allows us to put

together cross-functional campaigns. We

can pool our resources to create end

user sales opportunities with selected

channel partners into selected vendors or

technology spaces. These can be initiated

via our marketing campaigns, support

the POC or demo, leveraging technical

resources from professional services

assisting the partner in closing the deal with

our experienced sales people.

our ‘new to the market’ vendors, such

as Infoblox, Gigamon and Skybox which

are all part of our Emerging Technologies

Department, which has resources, dedicated

Channel initiatives

We continue to strengthen and expand

our commitment to our channel partners

in the region and Dell is planning

to expand its market reach through

partner recruitment and enablement.

We put a great deal of focus on partner

development for existing partners and

by recruiting new partners to cover our

growing solutions portfolio. Our sales

force will focus on assisting partners to

close business with products from its

portfolio suited to meet end customer

needs, including Dell PowerEdge

servers, storage, networking, software,

thin client, workstations and Dell

SecureWorks.

In addition, Deal Registration will continue

to allow partners to identify all direct

opportunities with end customers.

Channel partners will also benefit from

leads provided by Dell, encouraging a

channel-led approach for specifically

targeted end customers that would benefit

from channel partner involvement. This

will enable partners to identify and target

specific companies with the assurance

that Dell will not pro-actively pursue such

leads, although end customers still have

the choice of buying directly from Dell or

through a partner.

In the region, we are also planning to

put in place a new hire programme for

university students where we recruit

the top performers from the different

universities into junior sales and technical

positions. Additionally, we will continue

to support our two-tier channel partner

network through regular sales and

technical training, marketing collateral and

pre- and after-sales service.

Vertical focus

Dell has deep vertical knowledge and

has recently won a number of customers

in the healthcare, education as well as

the public sector industry to name just a

few. As a result of the success we have

had, we are planning to increase our

focus on vertical solutions for healthcare,

education, finance, telco, security and

defense and others by developing and

positioning solutions targeting those

specific sectors. We are seeing more

business in the region as our vertical

market expertise is appreciated, which

places our customer at the centre through

a customised approach.

built and developed the Middle East market.


Our primary focus has always been to

warranty service is flexible and has technical

and logistics support for the whole region

and also for the consumer products.

Our product mix ranges from simple

component to very high solutions and

also includes software accessories, latest

technology in mobility and LED bulbs and

healthcare products.

Market trends

The technology trends differs from market

to market, as it depends on the culture

of the region. And each country has

different regulations, which also needs to

be considered.

We are seeing that there is even more

opportunities for value-added distribution

in the region. At the moment, big

companies dominate this space. Value-

added distribution will also be our focus in

the coming years.

There has been a consolidation in the

components market as far as distributors

and suppliers are concerned, which will

give us the space to make reasonable

margins. We have also noticed that the

tablets and smartphones sales have

grown even more in this year, and we aim

to further capitalise on this. There has

been an increased focus on smart health

and smart learning technology solutions

within the industry. Therefore, we can

summarise that 2014 is the beginning of

growth from new smart technologies in

the IT regional distribution space.

Plans ahead

We will enable our partners to identify

the areas in which they can grow and set

them with a plan for long-term business.

At the same time, we will continue

introducing new technologies and be a

trusted advisor to our customers.

Our primary focus is to improve business

with resellers and partners in our region.

Highlights in 2013

We have had more focus on the retail

business and expanded the retail

related product line. There has been an

increased focus on the SME segment

and we have expanded our related

products in related verticals such as

healthcare and hospitality. We have

established dedicated manpower for

Abu Dhabi operations and expanded

our service centre. Another highlight

for us has been the migration to SAP as

ERP system.

Growth drivers

Few of our key vendors are focusing

on the B2B segment and are putting a

strong emphasis on solution business.

Trigon will leverage this situation and

focus more on value-added business.

Most of our power retail partners have

aggressive expansion and growth plans

during 2014 and we will partner with

these plans at all levels. We have put

regional expansion plans in place and

the feasibility study is being concluded

to identify the areas for expansion.

Future plans

We will continue to support and remain

loyal to all our partners to build quality

business across the region. We plan to

increase our focus on retail and B2B,

corporate business and also expand

our products in this segment. We are

looking at regional expansion and will

continue to focus on profitability and

gross margins. We will also expand our

logistics and service centre and move

it to a much bigger space in the next

few months.

Transforming operations

Lexmark’s offerings have been extended

following its acquisition trail of 10

companies over the past 4 years. The

acquired companies allow Lexmark to tap

into the elements of the capture, process,

content management, and search across

various vertical industries in document

management.

Typically, the intelligent capture solutions

can eliminate 85-95 percent or more of

the manual data entry that is otherwise

required to key information into back-

end systems. Fewer keystrokes translate

directly into reduced cost of data entry,

fewer errors, and faster input cycle times.

Lexmark is strong across industries such

as manufacturing, healthcare, education,

government, services and utilities.

Channel initiatives

Lexmark has introduced the Business

Solution Dealer programme which is

geared specifically towards those partners

that want to engage with their end

customers and allows them to make sure

they are providing end-to-end solutions

over a contract period. Therefore, training,

exclusive products and overall profitability

for the channel partner will be a key

initiative to move forward.

We have also introduced Lexmark Print

Management (LPM) which delivers a new

level of flexibility, enabling businesses

to create a secure, shared printing and

imaging environment with enduring

benefits. Through LPM, not only can

partners offer their business customers

the ability to reduce printing costs and

shrink carbon footprint, but also introduce

new functionality in a timely, cost-

effective manner. For instance, through

LPM, partners can help their customers

strengthen access controls, security and

compliance, enable printing from mobile

devices, track activity and increase user

accountability and add redundancy,

ensuring printer availability. As part of

LPM, Print Release lets users send print

jobs from anywhere, for example, from

their desktop, tablet or smartphone. All

documents are held in the print queue

until their owners release them. This

means confidential information stays

protected and print jobs don’t pile up

endlessly on office printers. The queue

can be hosted on-premises or in the cloud

for additional features and benefits.

Research shows that organisations

spend anywhere from one to six percent

of their annual revenues on office

copying and printing. It’s clear that

offices still tend to print a lot of pages

unnecessarily. It’s time for businesses

to rethink the way they deal with paper.

Most of the vendors we represent

strong partner commitment. SNB and

Market trends

Technology has already moved

towards cloud-based services. And

along with that, we can see that

hardware is becoming a commodity

and gaining a lot of importance on

IT security. Considering these trends

and evaluating the opportunities it

presents, we have already started

focusing on IT security solutions and

cloud-based services.
