Calhoun Community College is a member in good standing of the National JuniorCollege Athletic Association (NJCAA) and the Alabama Community CollegeConference (ACCC). All policies and procedures of these organizations are publishedin an annual handbook. Calhoun Community College participates under all guidelinesmandated by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and theAlabama Community College Conference (ACCC). The Calhoun Community CollegeAthletic Department competes in the Northern Division of the ACCC as an NJCAADivision I participant.

This Athletic Handbook was written to familiarize student athletesand their parents with the policies and procedures in the AthleticDepartment. This handbook is written within the guidelines of thepolicies and regulations of Calhoun Community College on pageeight of the College Catalog and in no way supersedes any policy ofthe College. It is merely an explanation of the policies and proce-dures that apply to the Athletic Department. All student athletesand members of the Athletic Department are expected to abide bythe procedures in this handbook and exemplify model citizenshipat the college and in the community.

STUDENT RECORDS AND TRANSCRIPTS
The Family Educational Rights and PrivacyAct of 1974 (FERPA) sets the requirementspertaining to the privacy of student records.Calhoun Community College will follow theguidelines as outlined on pages 17-18 of theCollege Catalog.
DUE PROCESS FOR STUDENT ATHLETES
Student athletes are guaranteed proceduraldue process in all cases involving formal dis-cipline charges. The Dean of Student Services,in her role of student advocate, will attempt todeal informally with discipline problems priorto the filing of formal charges. Emphasis,either informally or with a formal charge, willbe placed upon achieving a satisfying resolu-tion rather than on seeking to emphasize guiltand punishment. In the event resolution ofthe conflict cannot be informally mediated bythe coach, the Athletic Director, or the Deanof Student Services, formal proceedings willfollow as outlined in the College Catalog.
COUNSELING AND ADVISING
Gina Loosier, academic athletic advisor, willbe available to advise student athletes as towhich classes should be taken each semester.Athletes must meet with Mrs. Loosier prior toregistration each semester.
In addition, the Career Services staff providesassistance to student athletes and prospectivestudent athletes in making educational, per-sonal, and career choices. Career planningand job placement opportunities are availableto all student athletes enrolled at CalhounCommunity College. Computerized and print-ed information is available on salaries,employment opportunities, and educationalrequirements for hundreds of different careersas well as interest inventories, information onjob search skills, and job placement. Studentathletes wishing to take advantage of this ser-vice should make an appointment in the
Career Services office, located in building #4on the Decatur campus, (256) 306-2602.
STUDENT ATHLETE RIGHTS
Each student athlete may be requested byeach coach to complete an athletic informa-tion form. This form provides information forthe coach, athletic secretary, and public rela-tions office. It provides important informationin the preparation of brochures and newsreleases. It is important that the student ath-lete read the statement at the end of the formon the back page. Due to the Privacy Act(which deals with the releasing of confidentialinformation about students), it is required thata signed copy of the form be on file before anyinformation may be released on an individualathlete.
EQUITY IN ATHLETICS DISCLOSURE ACT

PROCEDURES FOR REGISTRATION
1. Prior to the registration process, a student athletemust complete the college application process,request high school and college transcripts, submitcomputerized placement test scores or ACT scoresto the academic advisor, Gina Loosier, and com-plete the FAFSA.
2. Confer with Gina Loosier, academic advisor, and yourcoach, each semester. Arrange for an appointment foryour appropriate registration date and time. Phone 306-2632. Current academic schedules for registration areavailable at www.calhoun.edu.
3. All student-athletes will be responsible to registeronline for classes after they have been advised byGina Loosier. Follow procedures at www.cal-houn.edu. Click MyCalhoun. Log in with “C” num-ber and PIN. Student athletes do not have schedulechange access.
4. All college fines must be paid prior to submit-ting an academic schedule for registration.
5. Do not drop or withdraw from a class without permis-sion from the academic advisor and your coach. Allschedule changes will be made by Gina Loosier.

Student athletes who are enrolled at Calhoun Commu-nity College are required to affix a parking pass to therear view mirror of their automobile or where visible onmotorcycles, regardless of location. You may obtainyour decal at the switchboard in Chasteen Student Cen-ter.
GRADUATION
Calhoun Community College awards the Associate inArts, the Associate in Science, and the Associate inApplied Science degrees, and certificates for non-degreeprograms.
Apply by October 15 of your sophomore year. Allathletes are expected to graduate with a degree uponcompletion of their eligibility. Graduation applica-tions are available on the Calhoun website atwww.calhoun.edu or in the Athletics Office. There isa $25 graduation fee for each degree and must bepaid by the student athlete. Students participating inthe graduation ceremony are required to purchasethe graduation packet (cap, gown, diploma cover, etc)from the bookstore for approximately $50.

(GRANTS-IN-AID)
Athletic scholarships and manager scholarships willcover the cost of books, tuition, and fees for a maximumof 73 semester hours, not including remedial classes orteam activity classes. Physical education courses corre-sponding to the athlete’s intercollegiate team will beallowed in addition to the 73 hours. The AthleticScholarship will provide for six credit hours during sum-mer school as not to exceed the yearly semester hourlimit. Student athletes will be allowed one (1) onlinecourse during the summer term. The annual 35 semester
hour limit will be adjusted to meet the 73 two year limit.If an athlete withdraws from a class, he/she will berequired to pay for the course in the future. The athleticscholarship will pay to repeat a class one time if the stu-dent fails the course.
The estimated value of an athletic scholarship each yearis $10,000 for in-state student-athletes and $15,000 forout-of-state student-athletes. Annual estimates are cal-culated for Fall, Spring, and Summer terms to includetuition, books, and fees.
Recipients of an athletic scholarship will be asked tosign a Scholarship Agreement Form and a NationalLetter of Intent. Copies of this form will be filed with theNational Junior College Athletic Association and theAlabama Junior and Community College Conference. Inaddition, copies will be retained by the College and thescholarship recipient. All athletic scholarship recipientsmust complete a FAFSA.
Cancellation of an athletic scholarship is permitted:1. If the athlete becomes ineligible for participation in
athletics because of academic and/or disciplinaryreasons; (OR)
2. For misconduct (unrelated to athletic ability) foundby the person or body in charge of general disci-pline at the institution, after following the sameprocedures as in other disciplinary matters, to beserious enough to warrant permanent suspensionor dismissal from the athletic program; (OR)
3. Volunteer non-participation.4. If the athlete elects to not participate on the team,
he/she forfeits their athletic or manager scholar-ship and will be responsible for all current andfuture tuition, books, and fees immediately.
As part of the scholarship agreement, each scholarshiprecipient will be issued books and/or online codes fromthe College Bookstore each semester. It is the student ath-lete's responsibility to turn in books immediately uponcompletion of your finals and to pick up books at theassigned time, if applicable. Book codes must be returnedwith the books. Failure to do so will result in the athletehaving to purchase books for the next semester. Thesebooks are on loan; therefore, athletes will be responsiblefor any charges resulting from damage or loss. Should theathlete fail to return the books, a hold will be placed onthe student’s account.

INSURANCE COVERAGE
Calhoun Community College provides accident insur-ance coverage for student athletes, managers, and stu-dent coaches. The accident insurance provides cover-age for intercollegiate play, practice, and travel.Insurance coverage is not provided for students partic-ipating in a tryout. Any student participating in a try-out will be asked to sign a Release from Liability andHold Harmless Agreement.
All injuries should be immediately reported to the HeadCoach. The coach will speak with the Encore Athletic Trainerto determine if medical treatment is required. All medicalevaluations and physical therapy appointments should bescheduled at a convenient time, not to miss class or practice.Contact your coach prior to scheduling an appointment formedical services. The student athlete and coach are requiredto complete a BMI (Bob McCloskey Insurance) injury reporton the day of the injury, prior to the initial doctor’s visit. Theathlete should present the physician’s office with the signedinjury report and a copy of the Insurance Referral form (seeAppendix). A copy of the injury report form will remain inthe Athletic Office.
The accident insurance policy provided by the Collegeis secondary coverage and will be implemented inexcess of any other coverage you or your parents mayhave. The athletic insurance is negotiated through theACCC conference annually. There is a $ 5,000.00deductible that must be met prior to Calhoun’s insur-ance being activated. The Calhoun CommunityCollege athletic insurance will not cover any co-pay-ments required by the primary insurance until the$5,000 deductible is met. For uninsured student-ath-letes, BMI will be the primary coverage and will coverintercollegiate play, practice, and travel after the$5,000.00 deductible is met.
The college may assist student-athletes with unpaidmedical expense for an injury during a college activity.Students must complete the Uninsured Medical CostsClaim Form in the Appendix and submit all requesteddocuments to Dr. Nancy Keenum. The primary insur-ance must have been exhausted prior to studentsrequesting assistance. If you have questions, contactMrs. Carla Larry in the Business Office (256) 306-2540.
Calhoun Community College does not provide healthinsurance coverage for the student-athlete. Insurancecoverage for any health-related illness is the responsi-bility of the student-athlete.
Each individual who participates in the athletic pro-gram at Calhoun Community College must have aninsurance information questionnaire and a copy ofyour personal insurance card on file in the athleticoffice to receive athletic insurance coverage. All infor-mation must be completed and on file prior to the firstathletic contest.
Calhoun Community College has 90 days to file theinjury report with Bob McCloskey Insurance–www.bobmccloskey.com. To complete the insuranceclaim, the student-athlete must have the BMI InjuryClaim form (page 20), itemized physician/physical ther-apy/hospital statements, and the primary carrier state-ment to the Athletic Office. It is imperative allpaperwork be completed in a timely manner. Claimswill not be processed without all required elements.The athlete must present a copy of the athletic claimform to the physician on the first visit. The claim formis to be returned to Crystal Higginbotham the follow-ing day.
PHYSICAL EXAMINATIONS
The National Junior College Athletic Associationrequires each athlete to have a physical examinationbefore participating in any athletic practice sessionand/or game. All student athletes and managers mustpass a physical examination by the Calhoun physi-cians and a drug test prior to the first official practiceto be eligible for athletic insurance coverage.
Physical examinations will be scheduled for all athletes, teammanagers, and walk-ons prior to the Fall semester. You will benotified of the date, time, and location where the physicalexaminations will be held.
Each individual who participates in the athletic pro-gram at Calhoun Community College must completean athletic health examination record. This examina-tion record aids the physicians in performing a com-plete physical examination.
All students will be required to sign a consent formgiving the athletic department staff permission to drugtest the student at any time. The drug policy is underreview by the Alabama Community College System.Student-athletes are subject to random drug testingthroughout the year.II NN

ELIGIBILITY
There are three levels of compliance for all athletes atCalhoun Community College.
1. National Junior College Athletic Association(NJCAA)
2. Alabama Junior and Community CollegeConference (ACCC)
3. Calhoun Community College
The steps for achieving and maintaining athletic eligi-bility as mandated by the NJCAA and the ACCC areoutlined below under REQUIREMENTS FOR ATH-LETIC ELIGIBILITY. Calhoun Community College hasestablished certain eligibility regulations outlinedbelow under ACADEMIC STANDARDS OFPROGRESS.
REQUIREMENTS FOR ATHLETIC ELIGIBILITY
The following rules shall be used to determine a stu-dent’s eligibility for athletic competition in any one ofthe certified sports of the NJCAA.A. Student-athlete must be making satisfactory
progress within an approved college program orcourse as listed in the college catalog.
B. Student-athletes must be enrolled in full-timestatus using any combination of sessions withina term, and in classes that begin before the endof the sport season in which the student athleteschoose to participate, within 15 calendar daysfrom the beginning of the term. Student-athletesthat do not conform to this rule will be ineligiblefor the remainder of the term.
C. Student-athletes must maintain enrollment in12 or more credit hours of college work as listedin the college catalog during each term of athlet-ic participation. Student-athletes who dropbelow 12 hours are ineligible until full-time sta-tus is regained within that term.
D. Student athletes will enroll in 15-16 credit hourseach semester.
SEMESTER ELIGIBILITYE. Prior to the last official date to register for the
second full-time semester, as published in thecollege catalog, a student must have passedtwelve (12) semester hours with a 1.75 GPA orhigher.
F. Prior to the last official date to register for the
third full-time semester, and all subsequentsemesters thereafter as published in the collegecatalog, a student must satisfy one of the follow-ing four (4) requirements to be eligible for theupcoming term:1. Pass a minimum of twelve (12) semester
hours with a 2.0 GPA or higher during theprevious semester of full-time enrollment OR
2. Pass an accumulation of semester hoursequal to twelve (12) multiplied by the num-ber of semesters in which the student waspreviously enrolled full-time with a GPA of2.0 or higher.OR
3. A first season participant must have passeda minimum accumulation of 24 credit hourswith a 2.0 GPA or higher for the initial termof participation, regardless of previous termor other accumulation requirements.(NOTE: This only establishes eligibility forthe initial term, not subsequent terms.OR
4. A second season participant must havepassed a minimum accumulation of 36credit hours for a Fall sport, 48 credit hoursfor a Spring sport, with a 2.0 GPA or higher,regardless of previous term or other accu-mulation requirement.
G. Prior to a second season of participation in anNJCAA certified sport, students must pass a min-imum accumulation of twenty-four (24) semesterhours with a 2.00 GPA or higher. (This is in addi-tion to satisfying E or F.)
H. Students not enrolled during the term when theseason begins remain ineligible throughout theseason schedule unless they enroll on the firstpossible enrollment date following1. Their release from Active Armed Services of
the United States with a discharge otherthan dishonorable.
2. Their return from a religious mission.3. Their graduation from a high school or
receipt of an equivalency diploma.4. Their transfer from an NJCAA member col-
lege which dropped a sport after the schoolyear begins.
5. A student attending a multi-campus collegemay, if at a campus of his/her enrollment asport is not offered, participate in that sportat any campus within the system that offersthe sport.

Students that satisfy one of the five exceptions become eligi-ble after the previous term has ended upon registration as afull-time student for the new term. (Students must be addedto the eligibility form before participating.) I. AMATEURISM
Amateur athletes are those who engage in sports for thephysical, mental, or social benefits they derive in partici-pation and to whom athletics is an avocation and not asource for personal financial remuneration. A student-athlete’s amateur status must adhere to all NJCAA guide-lines.
J. TRANSFERA student-athlete who has attended another college maynot be immediately eligible for participation at CalhounCommunity College. All NJCAA guidelines must be metprior to establishing eligibility. A Transfer Waiver andRelease is required for all student athletes participatingin the NJCAA. Student athletes and managers will berequired to attend study hall for TWO (2) hours a week(minimum) in the STAR Institute on the 2nd floor ofChasteen Student Center.
K. HARDSHIPThe hardship provision of the NJCAA is available to stu-dent-athletes who are unable to complete a season ofcompetition or did not satisfy one of the other eligibilityrules as a result of an injury, illness or some type of anemergency beyond their control. The student-athletemust not have participated in more than 20 percent ofthe college’s regular season schedule or have not partici-pated in more than two of the institution’s completedevents in that sport, whichever number is greater.
ACADEMIC STANDARDS OF PROGRESS
Academic standards of progress have been developed toensure that you will be eligible to graduate from CalhounCommunity College.1. Each team coach has responsibility for his/her team’s aca-
demic progress.2. STUDENT ATHLETES AND MANAGERS WILL BE
REQUIRED TO ATTEND STUDY HALL FOR 2 HOURS AWEEK AT THE STAR INSTITUTE.
3. Grade checks will be distributed by your coach eachsemester to evaluate your progress. STUDENTS WHOFAIL TO SUBMIT THEIR GRADES AT THIS TIME WILLNOT PARTICIPATE IN ANY GAME OR PRACTICEUNTIL THEIR GRADES HAVE BEEN RECEIVED. Copieswill be forwarded to the Athletic Director and AcademicAdvisor within one week of mid-term.
4. All student athletes and managers who fall below a “C” inany course at the mid-term may be required to attendadditional study hall or the Learning Lab.
5. All student athletes and managers who fail to have a 3.0overall grade point average at the end of the semestermay be required to attend an additional weekly study ses-sion the entire subsequent semester.
6. No student athlete will participate in tournament play ifacademic eligibility requirements were not met at the endof the term.
7. In the off-season, a student athlete with a grade pointaverage below 3.0 and who refuses to participate in studysessions, may forfeit his/her chances of signing a scholar-ship agreement for a second year.
8. All students must come prepared to the STAR Institutewith books, paper, and writing instrument to study forthe entire session.
9. The team coach and/or academic advisor will be involvedwith arranging study hall and/or tutorial sessions.
10. Students are not required to be enrolled during the fallterm to be eligible to participate in baseball or softballduring the spring season.
11. Student athletes who fail to attend study hall in theSTAR Institute will have consequences defined by thecoaching staff and Vice President of Student Services.
The STAR Institute is located on the Decatur and Huntsvillecampuses. Many resources are provided, includoing one-on-one tutoring in most subject areas including math. Studentscan also attend group study sessions. STAR hours are Monday- Thursday, 8:00 am - 5:30 pm and Friday 8:00 am - 11:45 am.Evening tutoring hours are available upon request. ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
A. Students must not have previously competed duringtwo(2) seasons in a given sport at any intercollegiatelevel.
B. Entry into an athletic contest of any regularly scheduledcontest during the collegiate year shall constitute one (1)season of participation.
C. All student athletes participating in any NJCAA certifiedsports must have passed a physical examination adminis-tered by a qualified health care professional licensed toadminister physical examinations prior to the first prac-tice for each collegiate year in which they compete.
D. All student athletes will complete urinalysis drug testing.E. Student athletes are expected to address all college per-
sonnel with respect.F. If students are withdrawn from a class, they may be ineli-
gible for participation.G. No student-athlete should participate in illicit or inap-
propriate social media posting.

ALCOHOL/DRUGS
Intoxication from, or the use, display, or possession of alco-holic beverages or any controlled substance (drug) as out-lined by the Code of Alabama, unless the student has a validprescription for the use of the respective controlled substanceis prohibited on campus, or at any athletic event. It is illegalfor a person under the age of 21 to consume or possess alco-hol in the state of Alabama. Public intoxication, on or offcampus, is a violation of the Calhoun Athletic Department andwill result in disciplinary action, which may include sus-pension and dismissal from the athletic program. Any student-athlete who is cited for a Drinking Under the Influence (DUI)charge will be suspended from athletic competition and willabide by the current drug policy.
TOBACCO FREE POLICY
Calhoun Community College is committed to providing asafe and healthy environment for its employees, studentsand visitors. The College recognizes the right of persons tomake their own decisions about their personal use oftobacco products away from the College. However, in lightof findings of the U.S. Surgeon General that exposure tosecondhand tobacco smoke and use of tobacco productsare significant health hazards, the College has establisheda tobacco-free environment on its compuses and in collegevehicles. Consequently, the use, distribution, or sale oftobacco products, including the carrying of any lightedsmoking instrument, in College buildings or in or uponother College premises or inside College-owned, rented orleased vehicles, is prohibited.
For the purposes of this policy, a “tobacco product” isdefined to include any lighted or unlighted cigarette(including electronic cigarettes), cigar, pipe, bidi, clove cig-arette, and any other smoking product, as well as smoke-less or spit tobacco, also known as dip, chew, snuff orsnus, in any form.
All College employees, students, visitors and contractorsare required to comply with this policy, which shallremain in force at all times. Any College employee or stu-dent found to be in violation of the tobacco-free policy willbe subject to a monetary fine. Tickets will be issued bycampus police officer for violations of Calhoun’s tobacco-free policy. Monetary fines will be imposed as listedbelow, depending on whether the offender is an employeeor student.
Any visitor or contractor found to be violating this policyshall be asked to discontinue the disallowed activity, and
any failure by a visitor or contractor to discontinue the dis-allowed activity after being requested to do so shall resultin the visitor or contractor being escorted off the collegepremises by campus police.
Student Fines Any Calhoun student found to have violated this policyshall be subject to the following fines: 1st ticket – $25.00fine, 2nd ticket - $25.00 fine.
All fines must be paid within 7 days of ticketing. Finesthat are not paid within the 7 days shall automaticallydouble in amount.
A student who has a pending fine or fines may not registerfor classes nor have transcripts released until all fines arepaid in full.
Any student wishing to appeal a fine arising from the find-ing of a tobacco-free violation under this policy may do sowith the Dean for Student Services, Dr. Patricia Wilson.
Employee Fines Any Calhoun employee found to have violated this policyshall be subject to the following fines: 1st ticket –Warning, 2nd ticket - $25.00 fine.
All fines must be paid within 7 days of ticketing. Finesthat are not paid within the 7 days shall automaticallydouble in amount.Any employee wishing to appeal a fine arising from thefinding of a violation of this policy may do so with theVice President for Instruction and Student Success.
With the exception of advertising in a newspaper, maga-zine, or similar publication that is not produced byCalhoun College, no tobacco-related advertising or spon-sorship shall be permitted on Calhoun Community Collegeproperty or at college-sponsored events. No tobacco-relat-ed advertising or sponsorship shall appear in any publica-tions produced by the College or by any club or associa-tion authorized by Calhoun Community College. For thepurposes of this policy, the term “tobacco-related” appliesto the use of a tobacco brand or corporate name, trade-mark, logo, symbol or motto, selling message, recognizablepattern of colors or any other indicia of product identifica-tion identical to or similar to, or identifiable with, thoseused for any brand of tobacco products or company whichmanufactures tobacco products.

The College will alsoendeavor to have information available for its students andemployees on community programs or services related to help-ing persons stop the use of tobacco products.

CONDUCT EXPECTATIONS
The College assumes that entering student athletesare adults who have developed mature behavior pat-terns, positive attitudes, and conduct above reproach.Student athletes are treated in accord with this belief.
The College reserves the right to dismiss any studentathlete or member of the Athletic Department staffwhose on-or-off campus behavior is considered unde-sirable or harmful to the College. CalhounCommunity College is a public educational institu-tion of the State of Alabama and, as such, shall notpermit on its premises, or at any activity which itsponsors, the possession, use, or distribution of anyalcoholic beverage or any illicit drug by any student,employee, or visitor. In the event of the confirmationof such prohibited possession, use, or distribution bya student or employee, Calhoun Community Collegeshall, within the scope of applicable Federal andState due process requirements, take such adminis-trative or disciplinary action as is appropriate. For astudent, the disciplinary action may include, butshall not be limited to, suspension or expulsion.Athletes found in possession of alcohol or non-pre-scription drugs will be arrested and held until a par-ent(s) or guardian(s) can be notified.
For the protection and convenience of all student athletesand the community, regulations prohibit disorderly con-duct either on the campus or in the classroom. Studentathletes participating in any unauthorized mass demon-stration, or whose presence and/or actions constitute ageneral disturbance, or who fail promptly to obey anyorder to disperse given by any college official or by anyduly constituted law enforcement officer, are subject toimmediate suspension from the College. Reasonable quietshall be maintained at all times in and around the Collegebuildings. Possession of weapons on the campus is pro-hibited.
Student athletes conducting themselves in such amanner as to disturb or disrupt a class will be told bythe instructor to leave the classroom. The student ath-lete may return to class as soon as he/she is capable ofconducting himself/herself as a mature adult.However, the second such offense would require thestudent athlete to meet with the Dean of StudentServices and could result in charges being broughtagainst the student athlete. Charges against a studentathlete must be resolved by a formal due processhearing, which is outlined in the college catalog.
ACADEMIC INTEGRITY
Misconduct Defined. A student shall be subject todisciplinary action by the College for:
Any form of dishonesty, including cheating, plagia-rism, or furnishing false information to the College.
Cheating is defined, for academic purposes, toinclude, but not be limited to, the use of unau-thorized aids (such as crib sheets or otheritems such as written materials; drawings; labreports; discarded computer printouts, storedinformation, or programs); unauthorized assis-tance on take-home exams or projects; copy-ing, or copying from, another student’s work;soliciting, providing, and/or receiving any unau-thorized aid or assistance (whether orally or inwriting); or similar or equivalent acts contrary tothe principles of academic honesty.
Plagiarism is defined to include the act ofusing in one’s work, or as one’s work, thework of another without clearly indicatingthat the work is someone else’s and stating thesource of the other’s work.
Forgery, alteration, or misues of College docu-ments, records or identification.
Disciplinary Action by Instructor. With regard to amatter of academic dishonesty in taking a collegecourse, the College’s respective faculty members areauthorized to administer certain appropriate disci-plinary action. If a given faculty member has sub-stantive evidence of a student’s having committed,attempted to commit, or solicited an act of cheating,plagiarism, or any other form of academic dishon-esty, the faculty member shall have the authority to(1) impose a grade of “F” for the respective assign-ment or test; (2) impose an “F” for the respectivecourse; (3) require that an assignment be redone ora test be retaken; (4) impose other similar sanctionsdesigned to preserve academic integrity. The facultymember shall not have the right to suspend or expela student. That authority is reserved for the Deanfor Student Services and the College DisciplinaryCommittee. If the faculty member believes that theimproper conduct should be subject to greater pun-ishment, or additional punishment, then the caseshould be referred to the Dean for Student Affairsfor disciplinary review.

CLASS ATTENDANCE
Your education comes first, athletics second, and everything elsefollows in the chain. Regular class attendance is important togain and demonstrate competency in course concepts and skills.Students are expected to accept responsibility for class atten-dance and to complete in-class work assignments and examina-tions as scheduled by the instructor. Some programs requireattendance for program accreditation or certification. Studentsshould consult departmental policies or guidelines for details.Student athlete absences for game participation must be kept to aminimum. The student athlete is responsible for class activitiesmissed during any absence. It is the student’s responsibility tocontact the instructor in regard to missed assignments or testsfor game absences.
CALHOUN COMMUNITY COLLEGEATTENDANCE POLICY
College instructors are required to provide a syllabus toeach student enrolled in their course. The syllabusestablishes the instructor’s expectations, policies, proce-dures, course content, course schedule, and other infor-mation defining the requirements of the course for thestudent. Upon receiving the syllabus, students aredeemed to be on notice of its contents and are assumedto understand and abide by the expectations, policies,and procedures stated therein. Students who have ques-tions regarding the syllabus should first consult theirinstructor and, if necessary, the department chairpersonbefore contacting the dean.
If a student fails to officially withdraw from a course,this could result in a grade of F and adversely impactfinancial aid.
Final Examination AttendanceAttendance at final examinations is mandatory. Suchexaminations are administered in all academic subjectsat the end of each semester in accordance with an exam-ination schedule issued by the Dean or designee. Anystudent who must miss a final examination has theresponsibility of notifying his/her instructor to makearrangements to take the final examination on an alter-nate date, if possible. This is accomplished by filling outa form entitled “Permission to Alter Final ExaminationSchedule” which may be obtained in divisional/depart-mental offices. One copy of the form is retained by thefaculty member and one copy is retained by the student.
Faculty members should not change the published classexamination schedule without prior approval from theDean or designee.
A student-athlete’s eligibility may be jeopardized if a stu-dent receives a withdrawal (W) in a course. It is impera-tive that all student-athletes complete allassignments/tests missed in a timely manner.
WITHDRAWAL POLICY
Student athletes are not permitted to withdraw from a coursewithout permission from Mrs. Gina Loosier, the athletic acade-mic advisor, AND the team coach. The coach/academic advisorrequires written verification/documentation from the instructorIf a student-athlete receives permission to withdraw from thecourse, the student-athlete will be required to complete thecourse the following semester. The student-athlete will berequired to pay for future classes as a result of the withdrawal.
Gina Loosier will complete the withdrawal process for all stu-dent-athletes.
STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES
1. You must complete all application forms accurately andsubmit them on time to the proper department(s) .
2. You must provide accurate information. In most instances, mis-reporting information on financial aid application forms is aviolation of the law and may be considered a criminal offense .
3. You must return all the necessary documentation, verifica-tion, corrections, and/or new information requested by theAthletic Department or other collegiate office.
4. You are responsible for reading and understanding all formsthat you are asked to sign and for keeping copies of them.
5. You must be aware of and comply with deadlines for appli-cation for aid.
6. Work-Study recipients must not complete any work-studyassignments during classes, scheduled practice, or games.
7. Work-Study recipients are responsible for having theirtimesheets signed and in the Office of Student FinancialAid on the 20th of each month unless otherwise directed.

ATHLETIC CODE OF CONDUCT
An athletic code of conduct has been established in order to inculcatediscipline, teamwork, team pride, good sportsmanship, establish lead-ership, establish a respect for rules and authority, and to eliminate dis-ruptive influences. Academic eligibility and academic standards ofprogress must be maintained. Failure to maintain eligibility and acade-mic standards will result in the athlete not participating in games orpractice as stipulated by the coach and the Athletic Department.
PRACTICE
1. Your attitude in practice is expected to be one of hustle, desire,and respect.
2. Promptness at all practices and team meetings is required.Continued violations may result in dismissal from the team andloss of your scholarship.
3. Managers are an extension of the coach. They are expected to betreated with the same respect as the coaches.
COMPETITION
1. You are representing Calhoun Community College in differentcommunities, cities, and towns. The only impression many ofthese people will have of Calhoun Community College is the onethey form as we pass through their city. Conduct yourself in away that will bring honor to yourself and this institution.
2. Transportation will be provided for road games. All players andmanagers will leave on the bus and return on the bus.
3. Arrival and departure times will be determined by the coach. Ifyou are late, you will be left behind.
4. Team travel attire or uniforms will be worn on all trips unlessdirected by the coach. Student athletes may be asked to weardress clothes on occasion.
5. Any athlete or manager suspended from the team will not beallowed to travel with the team or sit on the team bench.
NJCAA CODE OF CONDUCT
This code of conduct applies to all region, district and national events,contests and tournaments sponsored by the National Junior CollegeAthletic Association. Violations of the code of conduct occurring dur-ing the regularly scheduled season events shall be referred to therespective conference or region standards and ethics committee. Code of Conduct
A. Participants shall recognize the responsibility for proper conduct
at any national tournament, event or contest sponsored by theNJCAA or its member colleges.
B. Coaches shall recognize and assume responsibility for the actionsof themselves and the team members. Each coach who has par-ticipants competing in the event shall be responsible for inform-ing each participant about the Code of Conduct.
BehaviorCoaches, players, and institutional personnel must remember that theyare representatives of an institution of higher learning, its faculty, andadministration and student body. As such they are expected to con-duct themselves in a manner which would reflect credit on their team,institution, region and the NJCAA. Student athletes, coaches and insti-tutional personnel who are participating in NJCAA events are subjectto all NJCAA rules regulations and penalties as stated in the NJCAAhandbook as well as local, state and federal laws.
Inappropriate and unacceptable behavior by coaches, players or insti-tutional personnel will not be tolerated before, during, or after contests;at the hotel or in public while representing their college. This Code ofConduct does not replace Article XVIII of the NJCAA handbook.Unacceptable forms of behavior include but are not limited to:Fighting, taunting, inappropriate celebration, disrespectful attitudetoward opponents, officials, tournament administrators, use of profaneand vulgar language, use of tobacco and/or alcohol, disrespectful atti-tude toward host hotel personnel, and unlawful activities.
Derogatory comments
Coaches, athletes or institutional personnel shall not make derogatorypublic comments regarding administration of a tournament or officiat-ing of contests during post game interviews or at other times; to printor broadcast media, in news releases or institutionally produced newsreleases or under any conditions when their comments may becomepublic. The head coach shall be fully responsible for assuring that nopublic comments are made by the coaching staff, student athletes orinstitutional personnel about officiating, fighting or other incidentswhich occur during contests.
A coach shall not address or permit anyone in the team area to addressuncomplimentary remarks to any game official during the progress of acontest or engage in conduct which might incite student athletes orspectators against officials.
ReportingViolations of the Code of Conduct may be reported to the ExecutiveDirector of the NJCAA or his designee. Procedures and Penalties maybe found in the NJCAA Handbook. See Dr. Keenum or Coach Burnsfor more information.

Athletic Insurance Instructions
The Alabama Community College Conference maintains a sports accident insurance poli-cy for all covered athletic injuries. This policy is excess to any other valid and collectibleinsurance – it is a secondary policy and all claims must be submitted to the athlete’s primaryinsurance first. Please send this with the student-athlete any time medical expense isincurred. This will help decrease the amount of time it takes to adjudicate a claim.
1. An injury report must be submitted (appendix) by Coach;
2. Submit medical charges to any other insurance policy the patient is covered under first(regardless if the patient is the primary member or a dependent);
3. Once primary insurance claim is processed, submit the itemized bill and primary carrierstatement to the athletic office.
