Digital Citizenship and Cybersafety
Digital Citizenship and Cybersafety
• eSmart Acceptable Use Agreement unpacked with students in classrooms and then sent home to be signed
• Develop, maintain, enforce strong, supportive classroom expectations surrounding cyberbullying, digital citizenship and online safety
• Online reporting system allowing students to confidentially report any incidents of inappropriate online activityReport Unacceptable Online Behaviour
• Use school network which applies the DEECD EduStar filter as well as specific sites that we are able to add manually
• Participate in DEECD initiatives that promote online safety such as virtual conferences presentations
Digital Citizenship and Cybersafety
Security and safety
• Accidental damage is the responsibility of student/families
• Bags with devices can be brought into the classroom from 8:30am each day
• Devices locked in classroom cabinets during recess, lunch, assembly and sport
• Devices must have passcode that parents and students know
• Devices must be in an enclosed case using brands such as STM.
• 0% of student reported lost or stolen devices so far this year
Games
• Games will not be played at school. The iPad is to be used strictly for educational purposes only.
• 17+ Apps will not be permitted on the iPad while at school unless it has been approved by class teachers (some apps that we use regularly at school are rated 17+because they connect
to the internet)
• Apps will be placed in categorised folders. All non-school related apps including games are to be placed in a folder on
the last screen.
• Families should regularly discuss the apps that are on the iPad.
Email Accounts and Apple IDs
• Students provided will continue to use their DET Google Apps for Education account. This includes an email service, access to the suite of Google Apps including Docs, Sheets, Slides and
Classroom.
• The email address uses the @schools.vic.edu.au domain
• Apple ID can be created at home and linked to family sharing
Support
• The school employs two technicians (Seb and Sak), who have extensive experience with B.Y.O programs
and specifically iPads - 3 days average per week
• HPS BYO iPad Blog - announcements, documentation and comprehensive FAQ page
• Updates to be sent via the Newsletter and Year 4/Year 5/6 Blogs for the remainder of 2016
iPad Recommendations

- iPad Mini 4 32gb, WIFI- Other iPads are accepted but must have a camera
and run iOS 9 (WIFI only or SIM removed)
Protection- Flip case recommended (STM make great cases)
- Screen protector- Pincode applied

Apps
- At the beginning of the 2016 school year, the school will publish a list of free apps for
students/families to download
- The school will cover the cost of any paid apps. These paid apps will be pushed out
wirelessly to students.
- Throughout the year, students may be asked to download specific free apps and the school will push out any paid apps that student’s
require.
Where to from here?
• Set up will occur at the beginning of 2016 school year
• Year 4 students already have EduPass details which will allow them to connect their iPad wirelessly at school.
• Students will use existing school email address and will have mailbox set up at school.
• An invitation will be sent to this email to join the program that allows students to receive and download paid apps needed for
school (instructions to be sent home to assist with set up)
