Hampshire County Scouts
During a visit to Tanzania in June 2013, a mad plan was thought of.
Lets get loads of people to Tanzania in 2017!
The mad plan has now been developed, and has approval.

Aims and Objectives
1. Return Everybody home safe and well2. Develop UK Leaders and Team Members
3. Leave a legacy in Tanzania for the communities and Scouting4. Enable UK Leaders to return for future expeditions
Hampshire County ScoutsTanzania 2017 will have
A Core Team of Leaders (6-8 people)These will organise and co-ordinate the expedition, and provide support to the
expedition teams.
Expedition teams (8-10 Teams)Each Expedition team will consist of
Team Leaders (4-5)
Team Members (16-25 per team)
This gives a total of around 32-50 leaders, plus about 200 members
Hampshire County ScoutsCore Team Members – These are now in place
Team Leaders – We are now recruiting the Team Leaders. These should be aged over 18 as of 1st Jan 2015.
Applications Close on 28th Feb 2015
Team Members – The target range for team members is 14-18 years at the time of the expedition. Each team will have the ability to adjust the upper age range, to suit its leader team. Team member recruitment will start in September
2015.

The Expedition teams may come from one area (e.g. one District), or they may be spread over a wider area
Each Expedition Team will be allowed to develop on its own, with the backup and support of the Core Team, and
within the Tanzania 2017 framework
Hampshire County ScoutsExpedition Team Leaders
Team Leaders will need to have some experience of running camps, and some leaders, overseas camps.
However, the core team will be there for backup and support.
Each team will need to be able to run there own training camps, and run their own teams.
Hampshire County ScoutsHow Long, When, Doing What?
The expedition will be for approx. 4 weeks in the Hampshire School Holidays in the Summer of 2017.
The Four Weeks will be approx.14 Days of Community Project Work
5 Days Travelling2 Days Safari
2 Days in Country activities3 Days Tanzania Jamboree
2 Days Water / Beach Activities
Hampshire County ScoutsIs it just Hampshire?
No!Whilst it is centred on Hampshire, and checks and
controls are through Hampshire, the expedition can have leaders and team members from outside of Hampshire.
This can include a whole team (leaders and team members) from outside of Hampshire.

One team may be based on doing an Explorer Belt Expedition
Hampshire County ScoutsWhat are the costs?
Its very difficult at present to put precise figures on this.We anticipate that the Expedition will cost £2,500 - £2,700.
For the community projects, money will need to be raised. This is between £15K-£25K.
However, some of this can come from Gift Aid. Each team member may need to raise £300-£500 for their project.

1. UK Based Training Weekends2. Some Logo Clothing, International Scarf3. Insurance4. Tanzania Visa and Flights5. All in-country costs whilst in Tanzania

1. Cost of transport to/from training weekends2. Cost of transport to/from UK airports3. Vaccinations (can be £100-£300)4. Anti-Malarial Tablets (can be £50)5. Passport
